Theater of Blood/Madhouse (DVD, 2005)

I love old Vincent Price movies so this was a no brainer to buy. Its a classic tale of revenge and murder. Both movies on one disc so it makes movie night easy. Pop it in and enjoy with the lights down low. I recommend it for the Halloween season as its not gory but thrilling and can be watched by kids of the teens with a little adult supervision. Leaves the watcher to think about the consequences of their actions. Vincent Price is great in this as he is in all movies of the era. Check it out as Ebay and the seller make it easy to get. No hassles quick shipping and a return policy if something should go wrong. Packaged so well and quickly delivered at half the price of a movie ticket. You cant go wrong with this seller.

I must say I am not really into horror films aside from a few of the classic Hammer movies. These two similar themed movies are from the 1970's, again, not my favorite period. Two strikes so far. What saves the whole package is the great performances by the master Vincent Price.

THEATER OF BLOOD (1973) is the better movie is this package. It also stars Diana Rigg which should be a good thing if her character wasn't ridiculously garbed in poor disguises most of the time. Anyway, the main plot is a good one: theater critics are gruesomely assassinated one by one with methods taken from Shakespear's play.

MADHOUSE (1974) is a wrong title for this movie. It has nothing to do with an institution for insane people. They were actually more crazy people in THEATER OF BLOOD than in this one. This is a bad one, lame plot, even worse direction and execution. Even the great Peter Cushing and master Vincent Price cannot save this ridiculous movie.

I got this DVD, with a few more (and better) of the fun MGM Midnite Movies cult classics series, for less than $10 from Movie Magic USA. So it was still worth it.

Vincent Price, well what more could you say, one of the best actors you could come across, his horror movies make you shiver, even to the last movie of edward scissor hand, he was brillant, and these movies especially theater of blood, talk about revenge, well it is a MUST SEE MOVIE.

These are some of Price's best work! Madhouse is a 'must see' in my book. A departure from his work in the Poe films, and he really has fun with the role.

I remember seeing this movie with my mom when I was a kid. A was surprised at how gory it is for a 1974 film! Very happy that these old classics are available to add to collections. Diana Rigg and Vincent Price: Need I say more?
