A Classic Tale Turns 40 and Is Still Fresh
Eric Carle celebrates his 80th birthday this summer with much-deserved accolades for his very significant contribution to children's literature. Somewhere in the top all-time favorite EC books is this gentle story, The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
Eric Carle wrote this delightful book 40 years ago and it's a classic! It has all the elements of a great book for young children: easy, rhythmic, repetitive text; bright colors; tactile experiences (poking tiny fingers in holes); and learning basics of days of the week, colors, names of foods, and the mysterious process of metamorphosis.
If you have a small child or grandchild, this is a must-have for your "come sit down and let's read a good book together" library! The board book version adds sturdiness and, for the very young, helps with teething!
