Album Notes This Collector's Edition tin includes five greetings cards, a 32-page booklet and a pictorial bonus DVD. Whoever selected the track list for this romantic Elvis Presley collection had many hits to choose from, making the final result all the more intriguing for its ingenuity. Although the usual suspects are here--" Love Me Tender," "Can't Help Falling In Love"--the compilation includes some equally passionate but less hyped singles like the Leiber/Stoller croon "Don't," the 1964 ballad "It Hurts Me," co-written by Charlie Daniels, and "Young And Beautiful" from JAILHOUSE ROCK. THE VERY BEST OF LOVE gives a career-spanning smattering of the King's biggest hits that show this charter member of The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame was a born romantic behind the pompadour, sneer and sideburns. In his early days, Elvis turned on the puppy-dog charm for non-threatening chart-toppers like "(Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear" and "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" Songwriters eager to hook their wagon to this Tupelo native's star went so far as to look back to the prior century in adapting an obscure 1861 tune "Aura Lee" and transforming it into the pleading "Love Me Tender." This innovative approach led to Elvis' handlers looking abroad for material. The clearest examples are the adaptation of the 1960 #1 "It's Now Or Never" from the traditional Italian ode "O Sole Mio" and the incorporation of the French melody "Plasi D'Amour" into the following year's smash "Can't Help Falling In Love." Thankfully, Elvis managed to inject some punch into his love songs as evidenced the late career hits "Suspicious Minds" and "Burning Love" with both inspiring remakes by artists ranging from Fine Young Cannibals to Travis Tritt. | Find errors in the product description?
