A lawyer, Florida Grange has vanished while in pursuit of the the real story behind the death of a legendary bluesman's son. Her former lover, Hap and a client, Leonard, set out to do the investigating the good ol' boy cops can't--or won't--do themselves. Deep in the redneck heart of East Texas, they'll drive straight into a town packed with Klan wanna-bes, a midnight exhumation in a voodoo graveyard, a thunderstorm of biblical proportions, and flat-out murder.

Florida Grange, Leonard's drop-dead gorgeous lawyer and Hap's former lover, has vanished while in pursuit of the real story behind the jailhouse death of a legendary bluesman's son. Fearing the worst, Hap and Leonard set out to do the investigating the good ol' boy cops can't--or won't--do themselves. Lansdale's new hardcover, Bad Chili, is due for release in August.

"Perilous hunt through redneck East Texas by odd couple--black/white, gay/straight--for gorgeous black lawyer gone missing while investigating the jailhouse death (most likely murder) of legendary blues singer's money-grabbing son who may have been sitting on a pile of daddy's unpublished songs. Obstacles en route include black-hating township which ignores Civil Rights legislation, murderous cops and the worst floods in living memory. Tough, funny, violent, with more to say about justice, sexuality and male bonding than many more prestigious novels which flaunt their sensitivity on their sleeves. Uncommonly fluent narrative which spells out a bloody plot as fully as needs be, but which rates action above elucidation."
