The Spiderwick Chronicles Deluxe Collector's Trunk by Holly Black, Tony Diterlizzi (2007)

I don't have much to say except that the Spiderwick Chronicles have gotten my daughter's attention. She read for 1 1/2 hour when she got a hold of the first book. She is now finishing the third one. I told her she had to read all 5 books before she could see the movie. So she is going for it. It is great because she has been reading throughout the summer which will help her with her next school year.

This is a fantastic set of books. My children are excited about reading them. This is very encouraging in their learning. Any book that will have boys sitting down and reading is incredible.

My 9 year old daughter first discovered the Spiderwick Chronicles Series at her school library. She had never before been so excited about reading a book. She retained so much of the information and was able to describe interesting events that occured in the story so vividly. While searching for the first book in the 2nd series Beyond the Spiderwick Chronicles we came across this wonderful boxed set. The boxed set includes all 5 books of the series. The Field Guide (#1), The Seeing Stone (#2), Lucinda's Secret (#3), The Ironwood Tree (#4), The Wrath of Mulgrath (#5). All Books are beautiful hardcover and approximately 7 X 5 inches. Included with this set is also a Notebook for Fantastical Observations which is a journal type book which has description and pictures of some of the creatures in the Spiderwick books with lots of pages and spaces for your child to draw pictures and write stories about their own invented creatures. The best part is that it gives really great prompts for each activity to really help get your childs imagination flowing. There are also a set of collectors cards with this set. The best part is this set all fits neatly into a sturdy corrugated chest which has a magnetic closure. This chest not only will keep the books together and neat but will also preserve the books nicely while keeping them dust free. This will be a treasured set for many years to come and even parents will enjoy perusing the volumes. It is a great way to connect as it is not always easy to find something in common as our children get older. There are monsters in these books therefore I would not reccommend them for children under age 8. The books do teach some wonderful values about families all sticking together and protecting one another. The main characters are an older sister named Mallory and twin boys, Jared and Simon. Each ones personality is very different and they learn to use each others strengths to help solve all the clues and defeat the monsters. I definitely give this series a thumbs up!!!

In my 8 year old sons words,AWESOME !!! I have never seen him read like this! He read the whole series in a week ! These have helped in many ways ! They have gave him a new outlook in reading. This was the first series of books that he has read by himself. He was really disappointed when his book 5 was done! He has found a new love in reading and has signed up for Summer reading program at our local library!I will get more books written by this author when they come out!

My seven year old son, loves these books. He takes them to school and reads during centers time. We saw the movie and it scared him some, but the books are excellent. I love the way they are put together.

I bought this set for my son who has to read daily for 10-15 minutes for school. Let me tell you I haven't been able to get him to put the books down. He loves them. I told him once we got through the whole set he'd enjoy the movie that much more because it will all make sense plus there may be things in the books that are not in the movie. This is definitely a collect i recommend for anyone to get, i'm even enjoying reading the books.

I love the fact that the books kept my son intrigued. I bought it because my son was interested in reading the books. After he finished the books we went to the bookstore and he bought the 1st book in the new Spiderwick Series and several other books related to Spiderwick. He read all of those. I think in total he now has about 10 Spiderwick books and has read every one of them and took AR tests on them at school and passed with flying colors. If you have a hard time getting your children interested in reading these books may help.
