The knitting store. You don't have to know how to knit to enjoy this book. You will feel you know the characters personally. It does have a happy ending. A quick good read! This is book number one. Also recommended: A Good Yarn(Read afer the shop on blossom street) Christmas Letters(also by Macomber). Great news she also has Back on Blossom Street(Book number 3 in the series).

I wanted all of the books in the trilogy of the Blossom Street Shop by Debbie Macomber. She keeps you interested so you don't want to put the book down. She has such a talent, and I loved the idea of the trilogy, so that you can continue from one book to the next; you have the feeling of already knowing the characters and can't wait to see how she introduces the next new people. I plan to read many more of her novels. Not a lot of sex and her characters are always unique.

  SHOP ON BLOSSOM STREET

I belong to a Book Club. The type of books we read are as varied as the personalities of the members. Not being able to find the recommended book, I referred to an advertisement I had recently received for a new Debbie Macombre book titled A GOOD YARN. On further research, it was determined that this later book is a sequel to SHOP ON BLOSSOM STREET. We all decided to fall back on the later selection for the current month.
It was a good read, easy and yet it held my attention. Unlike other books of this nature, the characters and their life situations were varied enough that it held my attention to the very last page. Sometimes once the climax is reached and questions are answered, I find myself actually finishing the book only because I want to say that I "finished" it. Not so with this one. I am a knitter, so that only added to the enjoyment. Liked it so much, I went on own and completed A GOOD YARN, also. I even knitted the Baby Blocks blanket mentioned in the story!

I first saw the second book and when I realized that there was a first, I wanted to read that one. It was wonderfully written. I wanted to shop in the yarn shop and meet the women who took the class. It pulled you in and made you want to read more. I loved it!!!

I absolutely loved this book! I originally bought this book to read on the plane to pass the time. I never really did think I'd actually finish it. I haven't finished a whole book in years! I had a hard time putting this one down and read it in about 8 days! Debbie Macomber is an excellent writer. She is very descriptive and writes in so much detail that I actually had a picture of each character in my head! There were a few times I even found myself crying while reading the book, which doesn't happen often either! I recommend this book highly!

Great reading, you get wrapped up in the lives of the characters and can't wait to see how all turns out. Amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it and how sisters and family become stronger and unite when need arrises. After reading this book, I had to get the next in the series to see what happens to friends and family.

I absolutely loved this book and cannot wait to read the next one. I live near Seattle and it was fun to hear of our areas and I really felt like it was a true story and that I could drive to A Good Yard to shop away. My grandmother lives in Scotland and knits like crazy, I will be sending her this book and I just know she will love it too! Read it... you can't go wrong with this one:)

I really liked this book. The characters come to life as "real" people with their own issues and tell how they work them out, even when this group that comes together seemingly has nothing in common.

  I took knitting lessons!

I read this book and the subsequent "A Good Yarn" soon after I moved to the Seattle area (setting of the story) last summer. I was drawn to the friendships forged in the knitting class by women from diverse stages of life. I signed up for knitting classes and have been happily learning the basic stitches and producing scarf after scarf after scarf. Thank you Debbie Macomber!!

The Shop on Blossoom Street by Debbie Macomber
Review created: 10/16/09

Another wonderful book by Debbie Macomber. This is the first in the Blossom Street series. I definitely recommend reading all of this series.

The main characters are Lydia, Alix, Carol, and Jacquie. Lydia starts a new business called, "A yarn shop", she offers a class on knitting a baby blanket and the other three sign up for the class. All three are completely different in social class such as Jacquie is very high class but very unhappy, Carol is middle class but she and her husband wants a child very badly (Carol has already miscarried twice), and Alix poverty class very angry with everyone.

Jacquie is taking the class to make a baby blanket for her son and daughter-in-law, but she is not happy about becoming a grandmother (especially with the woman that her son has chosen for a wife).

Carol is taking the class as sign that a baby is meant to be.

Alix is taking the class to work off court appointed community service time.

Needless to say some interesting things happen to cause these four people to become very good friends. I'll let you read the book to find out the different events that happen. It's a very good book, you won't regret reading it.

  A Great Read!
Review created: 12/28/08

This is the first book I read by Debbie Macomber. I've read 2 more since. I love how these people, who seemed to have nothing in common all came together in the group and helped each other out in one way or another. Can't wait to read the second one in this series.

  A great read
Review created: 11/22/08(updated 11/22/08)

I really enjoy Debbie Macomber's books. Even though many books are under "Romance", it is more of an innocent romance, in my opinion. I like the way that she can focus on one specific character, yet bring them all together, even though their personalities are often very different. This is a book I would read on a cold, rainy/snowy day as it warmed my heart.
