The Shining : Stanley Kubrick : 1980 : 5/5 : This scared the living sh-t out of me the first time I watched it. Excellent acting on behalf of arch-nut Jack Nicholson.

The Shining, starring Jack Nicholson, Scatman Crothers, and Shelley Duvall rivals The Exorcist as the scariest movie of all time. Jack Nicholson shines as a man slowly going mad after he brings his family to a ski resort during the off season to act as caretaker during the winter when the resort is closed because the roads are impassable. The isolation and dreary winter begins to take its toll on the inspiring novelist as the hotel's terrible past unravels and comes to life. If you like scary, prepare to be scared.

I never received this item, nor did the seller ever reply to my concern. It's only the second bad experience I've had from doing business on eBay.

This is not a gory movie, sure there are tons of blood - mostly from an elevator - but not like in your typical horror movie. This is more psychological terror, one man's descent into madness with creepy visions to help him along the way.

Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall are a couple that to make some money agree to be caretakers of a historic hotel during the winter season. Said hotel is inaccessible during the winter because of its location deep in the woods and it also has a reputation for driving its caretakers insane - details, details.
The couple and their son - their psychic son - settle in and things seem to be going fine. Dad writes, mom puts around and kid plays. Then the snow comes and with it come the visions. So dad goes insane and sets out to kill his family.

This film is not step-by-step like the book, for that the mini series is more true but also less creepy. Which is what this film has plenty of - creepy images, the bigness of the hotel, the silence is deafening! - and what makes this film a classic. So if you are looking for gore go rent a slasher movie. This one is terrifying as you watch this average man completely loose it. Highly recommended!

This movie is so cool, scary, creepy, and weird. Anyone who likes horror films has to see this or you cant say your a horror film guru. I just had to have this

I Lost my copy of the shining and just had to replace it. This is the best Kubrick film ever and the best adaptation of A KIng novel Nicholson at his best and scariest. This truly is Horror with Terror, wanna be's have a long long way to go!!

This film ranks with THE EXORCIST in that the plot is kinda pointless and the drama is low-key for the most part, but the cinematography and overall atmosphere is something to watch if you want to watch a film as you would examine a painting; just watch...Nicholson's acting is a bit stiff compared to his energetic performance in BATMAN and the film itself is waaaaaaaaaaaaay too long to add to any drama. The plot is rendered heartless due to its vision, but the vision(s) are very articulate. A good film, not a great film. I'd pay $6 or $7 just to have it around everytime I want to take in the images of this haunted house film.

This movie conjures memories of nightmares as a child. The all alone and can't get away from what's chasing you kind. As if having Jack as a father isn't scary enough. Try have a mental, murderous Jack as a father. The visions of what Danny sees is much like what you would expect as a kid when you pull the covers from over your head. Great story, great actors, and a kind of creepy that movies seem to be missing these days.

Jack is a caretaker of and old Hotel in the wintertime and he and his family have to live there for several mths alone. Ever heard of cabin-fever? He gets it and is influenced by the ghosts of past caretakers to do as they did...and take care of the problems.
Jack Nicholson is perfect for this part because he can be a gentleman and also as a$$ho. It has too much profanity for my taste and unnecessary nudity but the story by Stephen King is unique and keeps you guessing the whole time.

My son has been asking for this movie for months. Now that he has it he will watch it constantly if we allow it.

It's a classic thriller that I have always loved but never owned! It's a different, unique film that I've enjoyed from the first time I saw it.

The DVD was sealed and played perfectly. The entire transaction was flawless and not only would I buy from this seller again but I would recommend this seller to my friends and family knowing they wouldn't get hassled.

I love love love thins movie bacause of the acting, Nicholas Cage, and the fact that it is a scary movie.

If you like scary, mysterious, and just creepy movies, then go and get this movie. Jack Nicholson at his very best. This movie is what made him the greatest villian possibly out there. The movie is amazing, the creepyness is down packed, the music adds to the scary effect perfectly, and Jack's performance is probably the most scariest villian in a movie. Give this movie a look, cause it's 4 stars worth.

IT'S THE SHINING, NEED I SAY MORE? OUTSTANDING MOVIE, A REAL CLASSIC. ONE OF THE FIRST HORROR MOVIES I EVER SAW IN A THEATER AND I JUST HAD TO OWN IT

It`s a classic horror that still stands the test of time.I thought it was truly scary and that the music was blood curdling.This ghost story was set in a brightly lit hotel instead of the traditional dark roomed house.The scariest part of the movie for me was when the camera was down on the little boys level while riding his bike. And he came upon the 2 little girls in the hallway who`s voices echoed "Come play with us forever and ever and ever". There were a lot of scenes that looked like something out of a nightmare. Like the blood pouring down the stairs by the elevator. Jack had problems before he went to the hotel but with his drinking and weak personality he became a portal for evil to come through and take over. Another scary scene was when Wendy picked up Jack`s papers and seeing what he had been typing realized the extent of his madness.There were a lot of great scenes.Some that even caused me to have bad dreams. I thought it was excellent and still have chills thinking about.

I love Stephen King movies and books. I love the way Jack Nickleson plays the father in this movie. This movie is definitely better than the newer version.I can't wait to see the movie again.

I loved how the sender took the time to make sure my purchase got here safely by wrapping it in bubble wrap and stuffing it into a nice orange letter.Very classy.

This is one great older movie. I just enjoy the way the characters played out their roles. It is on the edge of your seat exciting. I wouldn't however recommend it for anyone who cannot stand to see some blood and some gorey parts. Good story line though.

I heard this movie did good at box office. I find it good although I do not really understand it. Jack should got out of the hotel when he started feeling himself weird. He was informed that Mr. Grady chopped up his family at that hotel, so he should have been wise to that, and get out of the hotel when strange things started happening. And I do not understand what Mr. Grady told him in the bathroom that he was always the caretaker there. And the ending complicates things more showing Jack's picture with Overlook Hotel, and 1921 written under it. Jack's cussing spiced up things. Jack Nicholson's acting is exceptional. And you never know for sure if Tony is Danny's imaginary friend or something associated with the hotel or what. And at the beginning Wendy was shaking when she was lighting her cigarette.

SCARY AND EXITING!! ONE OF JACK NICHOLSON'S BEST PERFORMANCES. MUST SEE!! MUST OWN!! BEST HORROR FILM EVER!!

The movie was in excellent condition and it played through. Gives a chilling realistic discription of alcoholism. Could be hard for someone living in that situation to watch. I use the movie as a therapist, to help break thur denial.

I purchased DVD because my copy VHS required a VCR and we have no such creature now! This is one of my most favorite Stephen King novels and the movie is one of the scariest and I love it.
