Not a new concept, but a very good one!

I was raised on The Power of Positive Thinking books by Norman Vincent Peale back in the 60s and 70s. I keep his books on my shelf to refer to when things are going not going the way I would like. I have always believed that our thoughts are things and like attracts like. Think positive, attract positive.

When I heard about this book, The Secret, I did not bother to read it until I found it at a yard sale last month. I figured it was a regurgitation of the same information on positive thinking and visualization that I had grown up on. Same thing, fancier package.

I am now glad I bought and read the book. It is written in a easy to reference style that makes it easy to focus on the problem you are interested in at the moment.... Money, health, whatever.

I like that the author refers to several authors, doctors , scientists and a big variety of people to write their thoughts on a particular subject. It gives you different perspectives and different methods and reasoning to ponder.

All in all , nothing helps life go easier than a good attitude.

That's exactly what this book promotes. Sure can't hurt!

I say buy it, keep it handy and try it! Your life just might go in a better direction! It is NOT a new concept by any means, but it makes for a really good reminder.

Don't forget to click the YES button below ....YES is a positive and like attracts like, you know!

THANKS

I first saw The Secret in a friends house. I purchased the CD. Then after talking to people about it someone gave me the audio books.
So your thinking, oh I'm skeptical, it's just another one of those scams. It's ok, that's how the majority of people felt. What made us feel so skeptical against our fellow man?
With "The Secret" you won't sit it down, your thinking ahuh!! Then you want to read more. You can't get enough, you want to find out more.
Not even realizing it, you feel better about yourself. Then all of a sudden, your relationships are calmer, you smile more, your happy.
I watch it as often as I can and listen to the audio in my car also as much as I can. Even my 12 yr. old son seen it and even he made an vision board... I guess in some aspects we forgatten to be more like children on how to use our imagination...

  pretty book but no substance
Review created: 08/12/07(updated 08/12/07)

This book is grossly overated. It just talks about the one basic "secret" principle over and over. Nothing interesting about it. I agree that it promotes good habit of thinking good thoughts and staying positive. However, this similar principle can be read in other more interesting books with more substance. I was so fed up after I read about 1/3 through it although I did read through the book (since it only takes less than an hour to finish). It just kept repeating the same principle over and over, without explaining it further. It was a joke. I mean I'm not very familiar with the author but there is hardly an introduction to her mentioned on the book either. She supposedly came across this incredible "secret" just one day by reading a book???, come on. If you'd like books that promotes positive thinking, try something by Joel Austin or some one you can relate and trust.

Help Us All From Falling For Yet Another Lie!
Review created: 03/19/08
8 of 16 people found this review helpful.

Here, I'll sum it all up for you in just a few words...

Focus on yourself totally and what you want to have in your life. Then, think
about it so much that you really believe these things are true. Once you
accomplish that, you'll have everything you've ever dreamed of.

This is about as self-centered, sinful and satanic as it gets!

Come on people, I cannot believe in this day and age that so many people are
still falling for this kind of snake oil nonsense!

What's really funny is when I read about the people who've read this junk and
start claiming how their lives are changing and how they're making so much
money, and what not. ha ha

I try as best I can not to focus on self (of course this is difficult as it is
with all humans) and try to live my life as Jesus taught, to love my enemies,
and to help others and FORGET about myself.

Despite doing these things, I continue to advance spiritually and financially,
in fact, I would consider myself rich by todays standards, and this did not
happen by focusing on myself.

Focus on Jesus, help others, forget about yourself, and work hard, and you'd
be surprised how things will turn around in your life. The really cool thing
is that it won't be just some fart caught in a whirlwind in your head, it will
be true and you won't be let down a few months from now when you finally
realize that evil has had its way with your life once again.

Bottom line, forget this book and the movie show, you'll only be spending money
making someone else rich by spoon feeding you lies.

I first borrowed this book from my local Library. I loved the message of Powerful intentions and the Law of Attraction it relays. I kept renewing The Secret over and over, trying to let the words of this book sink in. Finally, I decided, I better buy my own copy ! Heehee. I dislike nothing about this book, in fact I love it ! I read parts of it everyday, and am trying to utilize it's words in my life. I highly recommend this book. Thanks.

Why are people so negative? The people that hate this book or "don't get it," and complain it's all about "mumbo-jumbo" are the ones who probably hate their lives and complain about all the bad things that have ever happened to them. Get over it! It's plain as day to the rest of us, that the negative/bad in your lives is equal to the negative/bad in your thoughts. The power of attraction, it's real.

This book opens your eyes to the thread that holds us all together. It is a spiritual experience that makes a lot of sense.
I recomend this book to anyone that wants to improve themselves.

Here you have a perfect example of philosophy lite for dim-witted fools. If you are one of those credulous folks who don't like to think too much because it makes your head hurt, than this is the book for you. Um, there isn't a law of attraction, if you believe there is, then you're an idiot.

This is lower than poor. This is the most ridiculous, unbelievable lie, that has ever been written. For all of you who do not know about the real secret, The BIBLE, look into it, before believing the biggest lie of all time, "THE SECRET". It is so sad that people in our nation can be so fooled and taken by such a joke and rate this book to be EXCELLENT. They should re-name this book, the "BIGGEST LIE OF ALL TIMES" to reach the USA.

I had high hopes for a spiritually-guided message, but was disappointed to find an ego-centered author who seemingly could not discern between the totally self-centered like and the Noble "we are all connected" Spiritual Path. Just another "ME, ME, ME" book.

The Scecret by Rhonda Byrne ? I don't think so
Review created: 05/08/07
by:

First and foremost let me say I am a Christian. So when I began reading The Secret I was coming from a christian prospective. I had a few doubts about the book but felt as long as when she said the universive if I filled God in instead it way okay. I read through the whole book and was very excited about although I had some reservations about some of her theories. However, a few days later I began to reread and began to wonder how I had ever thought that this book was the real deal. I truly beleive God opened my eyes as to the false teachings in the book. Please realize I am not a religious fanatic by any means but I do live my live by chrisitian values and believe that Jesus is our Lord and Savior. For a Christian who is considering reading this book I think it is important to beware as we are warned about false teachers and misinterpreting of the law of God. Some of the people who are called "spiritual advisors" in the book are no more than astrology types and mediums. Thatis not the kind of advisors that we are called to listen too.

The book is also entirely centered around gaining wealth. Which while important in its own context is not the be all and end all of our lives. We don't have a lot of money and that is often a cause of stress in my life. However as I always tell my children we are rich in blessings of health and love so the money is secondary.

The message of the book about living by faith is what I will carry with me. However, I will put that faith in a loving God not the law of attraction.

  The secret crap
Review created: 08/17/08
7 of 13 people found this review helpful.

The secret of this waste of your life, is that if you believe strong enough you will obtain wealth, happiness, and quite possibly Global Domination, etc... If you believe in positive thinking then I guess this junk is just right up your alley, but if you do then you shouldn't need this book anyway... right??? Personally I believe that magical thinking such as this is a great way to kill valuable time, But again if your into self delusional thinking then go right ahead and buy it.

I honestly could not bring myself to finish this book, it was so unquestionably redundant, you probably only need to read the first 20 pages and be done with it, unless you enjoy reading about how different people can re-state the same concept over and over again. Sure I agree with the idea that positive thinking can be powerful and life changing, but in no way does this guarantees that you will be filthy rich, and just to add insult to injury I absolutely loath books that use science improperly and out of context. I don't think that Newton's 1st law was intended to be translated into some money making scheme. The Author's attempts at using scientific laws in their claims would come across as completely absurd to anyone with some background knowledge in science.

The contents of this book have been continually covered by 1000's of other books. This is basic metaphysics 101 packaged with a great title and a well produced CD. I for one prefer the writings of Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Ernest Holmes, Napolean Hill and Norman Vincent Peale in this genre of books.

The secret is one of the worst books my friend has ever forced me to attempt to read. It simply makes no sense and can be easily disproved. For those of you who don't know the secret is that if you imagine something it will come true and if you really really believe it, then it is bound to happen. So if you really want to fly simply imagine your self floating above the ground, picture it and convince yourself that this is really happening and one day out of the thin blue sky you will start to fly...oh wait or you might just be delusional and nothing will happen.
If the headline wasn't enough then please allow me to respectfully expand my opinion on what this book is: It's garbage at the basis!
Overall it's message is enough to make an intelligent individual ill in it's poorly worded and put together effort at selling you hope for $ 19.95! It constantly begs the question that if the author means so well in sharing this new found message of hope and charity, that we may all one day live better lives having learned this secret, then Why is she selling this at twenty bucks a Pop? Hasn't all of her positive thinking left her rich enough? Quite frankly, the book is a bit ludicrous, and it has been so highly touted that it only serves to show the sad state of the world we live in. This book is nothing more than quotes from other books and writings from other author's. The whole concept of thinking that great things will come your way by mere wishful thinking is rubbish. If you want something you have to go out and get it! This is clearly nothing but a waste of paper and ink. A disappointment at best. Although it had a few good pointers it was preposterous in many respects. I would love to see some documentation on how the secret managed to restore someones eyesight or cured cancer maybe it's the patients fault though according to byrne's they are not wishing it hard enough right? Ha-Ha! Read Wayne Dyer

I know a lot of people are sceptical, but I read it, believed it and it really does work!! Even though if you're too cynical for this I think it's really great and refreshing to see things from a positive point of view instead of being pessimistic.

I genuinely believe it works, in small or in big ways.

Fantastic book!

  The Secret
Review created: 03/21/08
by:
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

Since The Secret first came out there have been dozens of books that follow the key points of manifesting as laid out by Rhonda Byrne. Some clarify. Some add a few new points. However, the basic foundation remains the same.

The overall premise of The Secret is that thoughts magnetize/attract/create matter. Therefore, if we spend all our time worrying that a certain event will come, that we don’t have enough of something, or that we will never achieve a certain thing then the universe assumes we want these things and complies. So the more we focus on what we don’t want, the more we continue to receive exactly that.

Knowing this key point, we can make real changes to our lives. We can start focusing on the things we actually do want. Then let our positive energy work for us, rather than against us.

The book made me feel like I was sitting in a room with a motivational speaker. Yes, if we can all be at peace with ourselves and harbor no ill feelings, the world would be a better place. However, getting to that peaceful level of conciousness takes more than a few encouraging words. If the mere suggestion of life in utopia is all it takes for you, then by all means read it. If your cynical side tends to rule, it will be a waste of your time. I live by the Golden Rule, but if someone jerks me around, I am not going to meditate to forgive the error of their ways.

  Nothing New Here

This book is a re-run of the Law of Attraction. Interesting but not new info.
Who doesn't want to know a "secret"?? Had some eccentrics who were a little "off the wall" but all in all is pretty truthful. Probably it had it's biggest run because some of the people and author were interviewed on Oprah's show. It seem as if you get to her show, it is a hit, look at Dr. Phil and Nate Berkus as example...
I liked the idea that it was a new review of old methods, focus on your goals and of course, the Law of Attraction works like crazy.

  What's wrong with positive thinking?
Review created: 10/12/07

This book is wonderful..it truly outlines and provides explanations and references for just about every situation you might encounter in life..I also love the fact that a number of people contributed to every part of the book..so it is a collaboration of many inspiring individuals that are only trying to convince the rest of us that everything is possible if we just put our minds to it...most people say I already knew that, why do I have to buy a book that is telling me what I already know?..the reality is that most of us do not practice what we preach and have not been trained (or grew up) thinking in this manner...habits are hard to break, conditioning ourselves to make personal changes is even harder...I can personally attest and have seen 1st hand how powerful the contents of this book can be...remember how you perceive yourself is how others perceive you..so send out that positive energy and you will see the magic that happens!...

I received this book as a Xmas gift. I would say that this book is certainly meant for some readers and not others. I found the book to have moving, inspirational stories but nothing "earth shattering". I can not honestly suggest buying this book but would not fault anyone that does.

I would say that "The Secret" to this book is to find the importance of loving yourself unconditionally, setting a goal, & not getting taken off the path to obtaining that goal. There ya go! Enjoy!

A simple guide to improving the quality of your life. Easy to read and understand. Oprah recommends this information and has lived like this her whole life. I recommend this book very highly to everyone, particularly to those who may be at a low point in their lives. It will make an enormous difference.
If you are thinking on getting a book on eBay I would recommend you first to go to this website where you can get a 20% of the seller’s price (yes just like that)… don’t worry you can thank me later!:

Nice try. Mix a little of the truth with The Lie that people want to hear, and sell lots of self-help booksand DVDs. <spooky echo> "Yes, you too can become a god." Isn't that great! Rehashed, New Age pablum.

God spoke about this kind of book in His word: Paul wrote to Timothy in 2 Timothy 4:
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.
