Awesome book of poems by the rapper Tupac Shakur.

I love the poems that are in it. These are the collection of poems he wrote before he became a rapper I believe. Alot of people see the gangster side of him but after reading this book, you can see the gentle hidden side of Tupac.

Deep lyrics from the greatest rapper in history
Review created: 10/29/08

Great book for every one who likes 2Pac and rap/hip-hop. It really shows Tupac's versatility and it reflect most of his deep lyrics about the many unfair things in life such as poverty, death but even success. The book was written when Tupac shakur was 19 years old and even then you could see what he wanted to accomplish in his short but very comprehensive life. If more rappers was this personal today the rap-game would still be on a high level like it was in the 90:s.

I bought the book a few months ago and I have to say that I love it!
I've always liked Tupac Shakur's music as well as the few poems I have been able to hear for the past few years.
When I found out about this book I knew I just had to buy it!
An astonishing collection of the legend rapper Tupac Shakur's most beloved and treasured poems. The poems hit right into your heart and gives you a full picture of how great a poet this man really was.
I would recommend this book to anyone who have a liking for Tupac.
A top book of poems indeed!

A Great Book By A Great Man

The Rose That Grew From Concrete is a fascinating look into the heart and mind of Tupac Shakur. Much like listening to his music, the words in this book take you deep into his thoughts about love, life, betrayal, and death. If you are looking to experience the essence of Tupac without any of the controversial topics or potentially profane language that he has been associated with, this book will grant you access to his genuine persona. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning about Tupac, especially for those who might otherwise have trouble relating to his lyrics. Students in particular, will also likely find this book to be engaging and worthy of discussion.

I love this book it gives you a different view of a self called thug. It also give you an in depth look into the mind of a modern day genius and his many different sides of his personality. I dislike the fact that it ended because once i got into it i couldn't put it down. I decided to buy the book because i wanted to learn more about someone that i admire.

Great Writings & Musings From a Young Legend
Review created: 12/07/06

The Rose That Grew From Concrete by Tupac Shakur is a great book. This book has so much wisdom and candor from a person who despite the media's attempts to make him just another rapper, comes out smelling like a rose. I just had this strange thought of Shakur sitting with Princess Diana and coming together to assist a nation of troubled, lost and angry teens. It could have been very cool to see them really turn the collars around on the stereotypes and collaborate for the good of youth. We have a generation of kids that will never pick up a pad of paper and write with a pen again. My point is that by seeing the connection Shakur makes with his emotions, struggles and triumphs all in writing. This allows the reader to see a glimpse of his soul and genius the way he felt at the time of writings and not the way an editor would like you see them. This book is perfect for a young or old person who likes poetry as well as a gateway tool for a young person in a mentoring relationship. One outstanding note was Tupac Shakur's relationship with God - it was very personal and deep these are the gems that take the diamond from the tumbler and into your hand.

  excellent!!!!!!!

Tupac was more than a 'gangsta rapper' and a suppossed thug. He was a gentle soul, and a gifted poet. This is a collection of his poetry before he was a household name, and it reflects the pain, and uncertainty he felt as a black male growing up in America under the poverty line. Some of his poems are so eerie with coincidence because he almost foretells the way he will die. One thing about the book I didn't like was the size. I honestly thought it be bigger, but it's a pretty small book. Nevertheless it more than makes up for that with it's content. I highly recommend this for anyone who loves poetry or is a Tupac fan.

  The Book Students Fight Over
Review created: 06/04/06

As a middle school language arts teacher, poetry is at the core of my instruction. Some students become hooked on poetry when they realize that the song lyrics they listen to are actually poems set to music. Seeing Tupac's picture on the cover of this collection grabs their attention and reading his actual handwritten notebook entries makes the poems somehow more real. Many of Tupac's poems deal with topics students are dealing with such as loneliness, confusion, drugs, etc. My students will pull their desks together to share the book because they don't want to wait for one student to finish it before they can read it! I had not expected this book to have that kind of effect on them. It has been great and I think I will order more copies!

I love this book because I'm a fan of the artist. I like the way the book has Tupac's actual writing on one side, and the poem typed on the opposite page. It's interesting to see what he scratched out and changed, and his style of writing poetry. Love it!

This book shows the true poems from Tupac Shakur himself. Other than rapping, he was very educated and knew what to do. Truly a classic and should be supported!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
