The Princess Bride (2001, DVD)

The Princess Bride is one of the most clever, humorous and touching testimonies to true love ever produced. So why are all the reviews so general and non-descriptive? Methinks ebayers are rushing to pile up mass reviews to achieve top reviewer status. The frame of this movie is a grandfather (Peter Falk) reading a fairy tale to his sick grandchild (Fred Savage). The story line is about true love between a peasant boy (Cary Elwes) and a princess (Robin Wright) and the team of misfits who help reunite the lovers who have been separated by an evil prince (Chris Sarandon) and his sadistic henchman (Christopher Guest). Skits include Wallace Shawn as the wonderfully plotting Vizzini (inconceivable!), the truly dense (mentally and physically) Andre The Giant as Fezzik, Mandy Patinkin as Inigo Montoya (a Spaniard seeking to avenge the death of his father at the hands of the 6-fingered man) and a classic bit by Billy Crystal as Miracle Max together with his wife played by the hysterical Carol Kane. As they journey through the Fire Swamp, the Pit of Despair and into the evil Humperdinck's castle all comes down to whether true love can overcome even death. Wonderful, wonderful for adults and kids of all ages.

I am too in love with this movie to give it a biased review....Me and my best friend since the age of 11 years old or so, have watched it probably 100 times at least. I would say for anyone who likes fairytales, a little sword-fighting and good old-fashioned cheesiness is in for a treat. This is a classic- I don't know anyone who would deny that! Alos, the DVD has some old footage of "the making of" kinda material. It was rewarding for me to see things on the inside.

I remember when I was little watching this movie. I decided to buy it because it's a reminder of a good moments I remember from my past. I love the total overview of the whole movie. And Mandy Patankin couldn't be any better!

This movie is hilarious!!! It has to be the funniest movie I have ever seen! The actors are amazing the jokes just keep coming. But this movie was made in the 80's so the graphics are kind of corny. But overall its an amazing movie!

One of the best movies of all time! There is something for everyone-romance, adventure, comedy, dueling, pirates, mind games, and Andre the Giant. This is a great family movie, although a few things might be too intense for small children.

I got this because I remember watching this with my kids and we had so much fun laughing. I thought it would be fun to watch it with my grandchildren.

I am 35 years old and first saw this film in the theatre when I was 15. Still to this day, when someone asks me what my favorite movie is I always answer The Princess Bride. It has Romance, Humor, Action, unexpected outcomes, giants, sword play, and it is all done by an all-star cast. Wallace Shawn as Vizzini is fantastic, Mandy Patinkin slips in (nearly unrecognizable now that we see him older and heavier 20 years later) as Inigo the dueling revenge- seeking Spaniard. Andre the Giant is a rhyming fool who anyone would dream of having as a best friend. This was Robin Wright's first film, and she plays the lovely princess role very well. Cary Elwes is superb as Wesley, and Chris Sarandon is The love to hate you/ warthog-faced bafoon prince Humperdink. Christopher Guest plays the straight man with 6 fingers, and Carol Kane and Billy Crystal provide one of the film's most memorable scenes as Miracle Max and his wife Valerie. There are too many great characters to include, but you will love the Priest, and the Albino too. Please, do yourself a huge favor and add this title to your collection. Then, watch it as often as you can!

This movie has been a favorite of mine and now it is a favorite of my three granddaughters. I needed a new dvd of this movie and I knew I could find it on e-bay. Excellent way to buy the DVD's you are looking for.

It's only the best movie ever. It's all the genres mixed up perfectly for a fun-filled day!!! Super funny, super witty--super everything. It's a great gift, and it's good for almost all ages, unless your little ones are afraid of ROUS'! Rockin' awesome! Thanks a bunch! Everyone should have this movie.

This well written comedy will forever be a favorite with my family. It doesn't matter how much time goes by... if we're wondering what to watch and someone says... "How about "The Princess Bride," the yeahs begin!
The entire cast is fabulous! The story is great...As Peter Falk says to Fred Savage (his grandson in the movie) ... this story has fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles...

I first watched this movie on VHS in the early 90's and instantly fell in love with the characters and the story. I about jumped out of my seat when i heard that a series of DVD's would soon be available to memorialize this cult classic. In 2001 this Special Edition DVD was released with commentary and behind the scenes material. The only close comparison to this Classic DVD, are the 2006 Dread Pirate Roberts and Princess Buttercup 2 disk Editions with loads of additional footage and many extras

I was first introduced to this movie when my friend starting quoting it all the time. She kept pretending to be this character called "Buttercup" and this evil guy called "Prince Humperdui... something" was the bad guy. I didn't really get it, but I decided to make my family rent it one time. The name of the movie sounded cheesy, and the cover of the movie was equally, if not more cheesy. I wasn't really looking forward to watching it.

But I'm sure glad I did. This is a really great movie. It is a classic fairy tale, however, its little extra touches are what set it apart. Random things happen that cause the viewer to be intrigued throughout the movie. Funny comebacks and lines are sure to have the viewer give a good chuckle. This movie is not the movie you would believe it to be from the cover. It's so much more than that. It's a true classic that everyone in the family (even the adults) will enjoy.

Very funny movie, and lots of lines to repeat to friends for fun! I would put this in the same category as Say Anything, NeverEnding Story, etc. I could watch this once a month as still enjoy it every time.
Look for special appearance by Billy Crystal!

I bought this DVD as a gift. I know how great the movie is and wanted to share the joy. It is clean, presentable for kids, yet complex enough for all ages. It is a hilarious comedy that gets better the more you watch it! I reccomend it to anyone and everyone. The Princess Bride is a classic!

The first time you watch this movie it seems stupid. If you watch it a couple times it becomes the best movie and I don't usually like to watch a movie more than once or twice. My foster kids and I can quote almost the whole movie. I bought this to replace my VHS of the same movie so that I could watch the bonus features. It has all the aspects of a great film, humor(including stupid humor), romance, war, drama, science fiction, fairy tales, etc. It is a great film for families. I highly recommend... A++++

My family and I LOVE this movie we can't wait to see it every time it comes on. I rented it at least 10 times I finally decided to buy and luckily I found it on eBay.
