Although I had heard of this book for sometime I never haad the urge to read it until recently. Now I am totally absorbed by it. This is not a quick read. It takes time to fully explore the ideas and concepts provided in this book. Each day I learn more about myself and how I want to live - In the Now.
The Power of Now (TPON) has the power to fundamentally and profoundly change your life if read with an open mind (or "no-mind" - inside joke). It gives you a radically different perspective on life and teaches you to find peace within, no matter your outer circumstances. Some may find the reading a bit difficult at first, but keep with it and all will become clear as the author's concepts become easier to understand. Don't let the subtitle "a guide to spiritual transformation" scare you off...Tolle writes from a non-denominational viewpoint and his insights are more psychological than religious, although you will likely want to explore your spiritual side more deeply once you read TPON. His concepts are strongly influenced by Zen Buddhism, but you wouldn't know that unless you've already studied Zen. I like how he explains some of Christianity's confusing concepts with clear interpretations of Jesus' teachings. But the overall concept is in becoming truly "aware/conscious" in the present, and letting go of neurotic mind-patterns: very simple, but not easy. TPON will give you practical ways to practice this. It's a bit repetitive, but sometimes re-stating the same concept in a different way will reach different readers more clearly. It only serves to drive home the book's excellent principles. Highly recommended for anyone on a spiritual path as well as those just wanting a happier, more peaceful and loving life.
My daughter actually told me about the book. We both are avid readers so I got it. This is a kind of book you can't put down. It teaches you how to be in life to make life easier by forgetting completely about the pass and recoginizing who you were in the past was a totaly different person than who you are today. Seeing and recogizing when someone or something is purposely trying to get you off track. I love it. This was a good read and a good book to have to keep on hand.
I have read both of Eckhart Tolle's books and would have to say that he is more tuned in than anyone else I have ever read regarding human psychology including Jung, read it.
I think everyone should be openminded enough to read this book. It really makes you think about HOW you think, It helps you to recognize the fact that the way you percieve things is why your life unfolds as it does. I bought this book because I had heard about it and I thought it might help me to grow spirtitually by allowing me the ability to see life from a different perspective.
Tolle is sharing something he discovered.....and showed me how to "discover" this truth for myself....READ THIS BOOK!!!! It will help transform your life! George in Miami
I was very excited to purchase a copy of this book as I recently had a revelation about the effects of focusing on the present. I excitingly opened the book radomly and landed on a chapter that can only be described as blasphemist. The author completely denounces Christ and any faith surrounding Our Lord Jesus. The particular passage that troubled me was when the author stated that there is "no past or future in Christ." I understand that not everyone reading my review will share my opinion. My only purpose in writing this is to inform other Christians or anyone who has faith in Our Saviour about the content of this book.
How much of your day is actually spent completely focused in the here and now? When you are working, how often do you find your mind wandering? How much of your time is spent thinking about what you are going to do next weekend or wishing you’d handled a particular situation differently?
The majority of us spend most of our life fixated on the past or worrying about the future. The present is just something that we gloss over until we realize that we missed out on something. Then, we yearn to have that day back.
What we tend to forget is that all we really have is now. The past is gone it no longer exists, except in memory. These experiences can’t be changed in any way. Dream or worry about the future as much as you want but no one is promised these things, good or bad. This moment that’s all. Make it count and really experience it.
It’s a bit scary and freeing all at the same time to know that all we have is right now. More and more, I find myself feeling the here and now and listening to my intuition. I understand quality rather than quantity in my daily life. When I get off balance or upset, I see the fear scenarios playing and I re-center myself.
My wife had purchased this item. She does not have much experience with half.com when paying for items. She payed for this book but did not save any of the reciepts. The check was cashed but she had never recieved item purchased. I am at a loss because there is no record on my Ebay account or paypal, but there is a record of fund transfer in my bank account.
It is an inspirational guide, well written and in terms of the way we speak. It's not over the top of 'my' which made me want to go on. Unlike other spiritual literature, this one makes sense, it's honest and makes one look at life and themselves in a real way. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. Too basd I didn't find out about it until just recently - but better late than never.
This is my 2nd copy of this book. I gave the first one as a gift. This is the best book. Everyone should read this book at least 1 time. I just can't say enough good things about the material in this book. It has totally transformed my life and thinking. I never really realized how much I think about the past and how much I try to look ahead to the future, that keeps me from enjoying RIGHT NOW... which is all we really have for certain anyway. Read it, you wont be disappointed.
I loved this book. I heard about while watching Oprah and ordered it. It has helped me so much. I was living on things that had happened to me in the past and caused me to be afraid and stressed out This book has taught me that the only thing is Now You can learn from your past and look forward to the future but I now enjoy life so much more because things don't bother me and hold me "hostage"
THIS BOOK IS ONE OF THE BEST THINGS THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO ME. IT WAS RECOMMEDED BY A FAMILY MEMBER TO HELP ME WITH A FEW PROBLEMS. THIS BOOK WENT BEYOND WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR. THANKS TO ECKHART TOLLE FOR WRITING IT. HIS NEXT BOOK A NEW EATHER IS JUST AS GOOD AND VERY HELPFUL.
A friend recommended this book. I think you have to be ready for this kind of teaching and I was. I think it has changed my life for the better but it's not an easy read. If things in the past still bother you, you have to read this book and learn to live in the now. It's great.
This book was suggested reading from a friend of mine. I am enjoying it, but am very glad I read the Power of Now first. Mr. Tolle writes in an understandable way that is an easy read and enjoyable.
i did not like how the service went from the buyer. i did not receive the book. the seller did not contact me. i am not very happy with the way this turned out.
Life changing read!! I strongly advise everyone to read this book. It will put you in a good mood, adn you will learn that you are not the most important person on the planet and/or that everyone is not out to get you!!!
i have received the book and already gone through it. it is so good that i wish to read it again and again. thanks to the author for bringing out such an excellent book.
