A densely layered historical epic, the novel tracks the attempts by a master builder to construct a Gothic cathedral in 12th-century England during "The Anarchy," the time of civil war and chaos that followed the death the only heir of Henry I.
Publisher's Note Ken Follett, internationally-acclaimed master of split-second suspense, author of six #1 bestsellers, reaches beyond the expected to achieve his most brilliant and remarkable novel. The epic story of the building of a cathedral in 12th century England and the lives of the people entwined with it and each other is a sensuous, enduring narrative, and a gripping tale of faith, ambition, bloodshed and betrayal. | Find errors in the product description? Reviews Follett is always a good read and this one is no exception. I only gie it a "good" because I keep putting off reading books that are this long. Report this review Review created: 09/04/08 by: I purchased this book because it was on Oprah's list. I am very happy that I purchased it on ebay and did not pay full price in a store! I have very rarely been so bored with a book. It was a chore to finish reading it. Although it was well researched, I can look up 12th century churches and building methods on the internet, rather than read pages of trivia about it in a novel. To much violence, way to "wordy", and the plot was very predictable. This book is definitly NOT on my recommend list! Review ID: 10000000008560282 Was this review helpful?
