The Pilates Body by Brooke Siler

Brooke Siler is a leader in the Pilates program of exercise. Her book provides a thorough overview of the technique as well as a brief biography of Joseph Pilates, the founder of a program that has been adopted by the NYC ballet and by dancers everywhere.
Silers' format is easy to follow: a descriptive text accompanied by photographs of models of the three distinct levels from a modified beginner to highly advanced practioners. Her descriptions as well as visual imagery helps the reader to progress at a safe, effective rate. And the best part of this book is that every exercise can be performed at home with only an exercise mat.
The only thing that I dislike about the book is that I have to turn to pages for each new exercise and that disturbs the "flow" of my workout at home...something that can be remedied only by a DVD of the book. And yes, there is one of those out there for anyone who doesn't mind spending a little more for a great workout.
I purchased the book as a text to accompany a certification workshop in Pilates. I plan to teach the technique at local fitness clubs where I have studied the technique for several years. After browsing the local used bookstore, I realized that this book is one of the most widely-read in the industry. I got a great bargain on my internet purchase and I only had to wait a week for it. The gently used book looks as perfect as a new one at only a fraction of the cost.
