  A MOVIE TO HUMBLE YOU

This is the best movie I have ever seen. Partly because I am a Christian and partly because Mel Gibson did a great job of telling the truth for the world to take in. I always have a copy of this DVD in my store. What a outreach this movie is! The draw back is if you do not like to read subtitles. I found this a positive. Yes, the beating was exhausting and hard to work. I have not been able to watch the whole beating at one sitting. This is a great evangelism tool. My children will watch it one day. I do not recommend this for young children. This is also great for when we Christians get all mighty a viewing of this movie is very humbling.

  Passion of the Christ DVD

I love this movie and yet, at the same time, I can't watch it very often.

The movie is very real and very graphic. The movie takes us back to the death of Christ and helps the viewer understand fully what Christ was giving for us. He willing gave his life in a very harsh way because of His love for us and the Father.

I can't watch it very often because of the intense feelings I have after viewing it. Every once in awhile, I need to be reminded of His sacrifice. When I'm all caught up in this world and thinking it's all about me, I watch the dvd and I'm reminded once again of His sacrifice.

If you haven't bought this movie yet, you need to. Even when I haven't watched it for awhile, just seeing it on the shelf is a small reminder of the ultimate gift I've been given.

As a christian I really enjoyed watching this movie. I think as a parent you should use caution in showing it to younger children. Our church watched this together and as the adults were watching the children watched some kids movies. Other than not letting children too young watch it, it is a great purchase.

Sensationalism and shock value, nothing more offered.
Review created: 06/07/06

This film tells the story of the last 12 hours in the life of Jesus (Caviezel), on the day of his crucifixion in Jerusalem. This film's script is based upon several sources, including the diaries of St. Anne Catherine Emmerich (1774-1824) as collected in the book, "The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ", "The Mystical City of God" by St. Mary of Agreda, and the New Testament books of John, Luke, Mark and Matthew.

The film opens in the Garden of Olives (Gethsemane) where Jesus has gone to pray after the Last Supper. Jesus resists Satan's temptations. Betrayed by Judas Iscariot, Jesus is arrested and taken back to within the city walls of Jerusalem where the leaders of the Pharisees confront him with accusations of blasphemy and his trial results in a condemnation to death. Jesus is brought before Pilate, the Roman Governor of Palestine, who listens to the accusations leveled at him by the Pharisees. Realizing he is confronting a political conflict, Pilate defers to King Herod in the matter. Herod returns Jesus to Pilate who gives the crowd a choice between Jesus and the criminal Barrabas. The crowd chooses to have Barrabas set free and to condemn Jesus. Jesus is handed over to the Roman soldiers and flagellated. Unrecognizable now, he is brought back before Pilate, who presents him to the crowd as if to say "is this not enough?" It is not. Pilate washes his hands of the entire dilemma, ordering his men to do as the crowd wishes. Jesus is presented with the cross and is ordered to carry it through the streets of Jerusalem all the way up to Golgotha. On Golgotha, Jesus is nailed to the cross and undergoes his last temptation - the fear that he has been abandoned by his Father. He overcomes his fear, looks at Mary, his Holy Mother, and makes the pronouncement which only she can fully understand, "it is accomplished." He then dies: "into Thy hands I commend my Spirit."

I am at a lost as to why people claim this movie is so good, I can see why it did so well but not why people thought it was such a great movie. I think the reason why most people claim the movie was so brilliant is because it meant something to them and not because of its actually filming. The movie is overly violent with no purpose other than to shock the audience into apathy and creating a controversy that eventually lead to huge box office numbers. I am not a big religious person but I don't think Christ would want people glorifying his death but rather his life and his teachings. One does not need to see this gross and utterly pointless savagery. The best moments of the film are easily the peaceful scenes in between the savagery and blood letting. The film could have done like that entirely peaceful with the teachings of Christ and been just as powerful and maybe more loved. The movie does nothing more than draw on your own personal beliefs to affirm itself, it has nothing to offer itself except the savage beating and death of a man in an overly gratuitous manner. It simply doesn't stand alone the audience brought the story in with them, if you strip the audience of this knowledge before they saw the movie they would be disgusted by the movie and hate it. They do not even attempt to try telling any back story, rather relying on the audience to know it before hand so they can assault you with images of violence. Sure the movie is brilliantly shot, from a technical standpoint the movie is gorgeous but this movie is a mockery of everything Christ would have stood fo

Prepare yourself if you have not seen this movie, it will overwhelm you. This movie is beautiful, but brutal. Watching this is something to behold and though incredibly brutal, it is not the blood that strikes you, it is the humanity throughout. The visual stimulation is extreme, but you are touched at a much deeper level because the movie strikes you at the most basic of human emotions. You will be struck at the power of this movie and probably left silent for some time to think it over, I know I was.

  The meaning behind the movie....
Review created: 12/15/06
4 of 6 people found this review helpful.

This movie was not to glorify the death of Christ by showing the ravenous beatings and degrading insults He endured but instead to glorify the decision He made for all of us... He CHOSE to endure these things for us... so that we could be with Him again in heaven if we accepted what He did for us. Without this movie I could not have truly imagined the magnitude of the decision He made for me.

This movie is hard to watch at times and I do not believe it is suitable for children. However, all adults should watch the movie simply so they can decide for themselves whether or not they accept Him and the sacrifice He CHOSE to make for them. I give it an excellent A++ rating not because Mel Gibson directed it (although he is briliant) but because of the meaning behind the movie.

Praise be to God our Father and Jesus Christ His Son

In viewing this movie I wept with sorrow and joy. I thank God that he has allowed Mel Gibson to produce such a film. The depiction of Christ's sacrifice, his torture and death is the most acurate to the description in the bible that I have seen. Praise God that Jesus had enough love for us that he was willing to suffer such a thing so that those who beleive and follow after him would not face hell but would see and know the face and love of God. This is everything that Jesus was here for and I am so grateful that he chose to provide for us an escape through his death. God alone is worthy to be praised, give thanks to him and follow after his Son.

WOW - Amazing view of the last days of Christ's life!
Review created: 03/04/06
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Words cannot really describe this movie. It is emotionally wrenching, as it provides a very visual and detailed walk through the last days of Jesus' life. Before I saw this movie, I had a picture in my mind of what was happening in the Gospels, but I had not been touched so deeply until I actually saw the movie. This forces you to confront the truth about the awesome depth of Jesus' sacrifice as he was tortured and died on the cross for each one of us personally! I will watch this movie every Lenten season to remind myself of exactly how awesome God's love is for his people!

Yes, it is very graphic. I would not recommend this movie for children under the age of 12. However, I would highly recommend it for all mature Christian believers!

The Passion of the Christ 2004-Mel Gibson

This movie will humble you and make you realize how blessed you truly are. I first saw this movie in the theater. Once the movie ended you did not see the usual rush to the door. Many just sat in their seats in their own reflection. It is that powerful of a movie.

It was not made to glorify the death of Christ. It was made to give you a glimpse of truth. Many of us take Jesus's punishment for our sins for granted. This movie was made to remind you how high of a price was actually paid so that you may live. Some look at this movie and see only violence. I see love. I see an amazing love above all others. I see a man that loved so much that he was willing to bear the penalty of sin for the whole world.

  Much Better Than I Expected!

I must first admit that I was raised in a very Catholic household, but over time have pulled away from going to church on a regular basis because I do not agree with everything that the Catholic Church teasches.
Origionally the plan had been for my sister and I to go and see the movie as a way to appease our parents, who had allready seen it. My initial thought had been BORING! But to my suprise I found myself getting quite into the movie and almost felt like I was really there and really witnessing the actual events.
While the movie is quite graphic, I believe that in order to convey the events, it could have not been done any other way. I have even had my children watch this movie so that they could gain a better understanding of these events.
Even though this movie contains subtitles, which I hate, you do not need to be able to understand what is being said in order to feel the intense emotions and follow along.
I think Mel Gibson did a wonderfull job in his direction of this film. While it may seem that the film is contraversial, I believe that it is definately worth seeing. A+ all the way!

  Jesus, the One and Only

I think Mel Gibson did a wonderful job detailing Jesus' life the last few hours of his life. We all really need to think about what Christ did for us, and how much he went through for us. He died on the cross so that we may be saved. This movie was an eye-opener for me. I always believed Christ died for me, but I guess I never really realized what he went through.

I bought the movie about a month ago. I wanted to see how Mel Gibson portrayed Jesus Christ in his last days that is why I bought the DVD. I thought the movie was very graphic in nature showing how Jesus Christ was being treated all the way up to his death on the cross. I guess you can say I was satisfied with how Mel Gibson portrayed Jesus in his last hours, very close but not exact to the Holy Bible, if you expect to hear the rooster crow that detail was left out. Some people say that the movie is hard to keep up with because of the sub-titles, I thought it wasn't that bad. If you want to be shocked about what happened to Jesus Christ buy The Passion of the Christ and see the movie. This is the first review I have written they asked me to write one so I did.

This movie was akin to taking a walk through the New Testament. It portrayed in a way that we have never seen history portrayed before.
It appeared a bit unconsrtained at times and in my opinion took liberties to make it's point; I am more concerned by Gibson's recent utterings than I am about any bias's shown in the movie.

I decided to buy it because it was a monumental movie that I would like to my DVD collection. I loved everything about it and how it captured just about all the details leading up to Christ's death. It was more detailing than the other movies about christ that all look the same and are very bland.
