The Official Scrabble Players Dictionary by Merriam Webster (2005, Hardcover)

My wife and I frequently play Scrabble, and we always challenge when unfamiliar words are used. Our earlier edition paperback dictionary was falling apart and we opted for the newest edition with a hard cover for durability. Also, the hardbound edition has convenient listings of short words not found in the paperback. The only drawback to hard covers is that they inflict considerably more damage when thrown by an angry loser.

The print is large and there are several lists included. If you get the 4th (latest) EDITION, you also need to find out which PRINTING of the 4th Edition. I was fortunate to know someone who had all the changes as of November 10, 2005

(Deleted words such as COULISES),
(Words missing from earlier printings such as DUMPSTER - over 100 words here), (Words that were added in my edition and should not have been such as EXEDRAS).
(New 2 letter words. These are since 3rd edition, they are in all 4th editions.

It takes quite a bit of time to make all these correction, especially adding the missing words, since the meanings have to be looked up in another dictionary. So ASK which printing and check the 3 words mentioned here.

The $17 (free ship) would have been a good price - IF it was the latest printing. But I still have not finished adding all the missing words to the printing of the 4th Edition that I received. I would rather have paid a bit more and had a complete up-to-date book.

I like having the Official Scrabble Players Dictionary. It makes me feel like I'm playing the game the way it was meant to be played. Before I bought this dictionary, I used Webster's Unabridged Dictionary (1987). However, there are some drawbacks. The Official Scrabble Dictionary has a lot less words than the unabridged dictionary. It doesn't let you use the word "en," as in the letter "n," for example. Also, I think the official dictionary doesn't contain any words longer than eight letters, even though you are allowed to make words that are longer than eight letters if you build off of another word.

After seeing the paperback version at my brother's house. I thought I needed larger print and the price I paid on Ebay was hard to beat. It was in good condition and came quickly--so no complaints.

I never received the book. I never received my refund after several,and I mean several, requests.A promise to refund turned out to be false.I am upset with the whole experience.

The book was not sent to the person I ordered it for. He is incarcerated and I initially forgot to include his State Jail assigned number. However, I immediately realized this and emailed the seller twice. I recieved no response from the seller. I presumed they got my message. Then I received my refund notice for $11.71 when the price was $20.26. (I presume I am being charged for postage.) The reason given to me for the refund was "Buyer's Remorse". I never changed my mind, so where the reason came from is beyond me. I will not purchase anything else in this manner.

This book is a MUST HAVE for serious Scrabble players. It contains every word imaginable,and solves all those arguments over what really is or isn't a real word. It is very easy to read,and easy to look up words.

this item is a necessity because it ends the debate of which dictionary source to use when challenging words while playing scrabble. easy to use and with seperate reference areas
