Album Notes Billboard's book Top Pop Hits designates Elvis "the #1 artist of the rock era." The statistics supporting this claim are compelling: with 149 records in the pop charts, Presley reached the Top 100 nearly 50 percent more often than his closest competitor, James Brown. From 1956 to the present, only the Beatles had more number ones than Elvis. Furthermore, because Elvis' records stayed atop the charts longer than the Beatles', Presley heads the list of "most weeks holding the #1 position" (creaming runners-up the Beatles, 80 to 59). All 18 of Presley's #1 hits appear on the aptly-titled collection THE NUMBER ONE HITS, a solid grouping of some of the greatest rock recordings of all-time. Because Elvis so completely dominated the early rock and roll scene, this set mostly covers Presley's first years in music. Ten of the eighteen records here predate the King's induction into the Army; only one postdates 1962. Don't assume that all your favorite Presley hits are on this disc; "Love Me," "Little Sister," and "Return to Sender" are among many familiar hits that topped out below the #1 spot. For a more thorough overview of Presley's career, consider THE TOP TEN HITS or the GOLDEN RECORDS series. | Find errors in the product description? Submit a catalog update request now. | ||||||||||||

Presley song ), but it doesn't sound as good off the CD as it does when i hear it on the radio. i suspect the radio is playing it off a different CD if you will , as i have learned that the same song can sound different from one CD to the next , i.e., same artist but different song compilations , due to various recording , transcription, mixing techniques etc. utilized. She was recently involved in a marriage with a person who was not good to her at all, so I thought it might cheer her up. Review ID: 10000000006578127 Was this review helpful?
