I purchased the New Foxe's Book of Martyr's after purchasing the original some months ago. This book is a must read for the Christians of today. It will open the eyes of all Christians who seemingly take the religous freedoms today for granted.
Many of us assume that we are very active in God's will, or give acceptable time for his purpose, or even live righteous lives. After reading you'll see, much like I did, that this assumption is a grievous attempt to satisfy ourselves in our small attempts to worship and serve God.
Read this book and after 3 or 4 chapters you'll realize that what we feel is a huge sacrifice and service to God is nothing when compared to martyrs of the past who have given all they have, their homes, families and lives for the name of Jesus Christ.
Read to find out how each of the disciples (with the exception of John) who were martyrd for serving and standing for Christ Jesus.
The events of this book take place from the early AD to the previous year 2001. It is astounding to read and see what has taken place in the past 2000 years in regards to the Christian faith. It is amazing to see how the Word of God (The Bible) has survived through ruthless dictators and power driven tyrants and kings who in their years of reign vowed to destroy it, but never managed to do so. It is by the grace of God and the faithfulness of these martyrs that God's Word is available for us to read freely today. Though it is amazing to see God's word prevail it is no surprise it has done so as Jesus was very specific in Matthew, Mark and Luke when he said "Heaven and Earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away" Matt 24:35, Mark 13:31, Luke 21:33 -KJV
As a young Preacher who was just called to preach last year, I highly recommend reading this book. God put us here for his pleasure, he put us here to commission us to glorify and honor him. You can do this simply by trusting in Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour, accepting that he died on the cross for your sins.
All of us have sinned, the Bible tells us in Romans 3:23 "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God" -- That means you, me everyone has sinned and done things that God doesn't like. The Bible also tell us in Romans 6:23 "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." -- That means the sin we have committed has condemned us to death and Hell (and yes, Hell is a literal burning place), but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. All you need to do is believe on the son of God, Jesus Christ... He said in John 3:3 "...Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of Heaven".
And John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Friend you have sinned, you have disobeyed God, but he loved you enough that he sent his only son to die and forgive you of those sins so that you will not perish but have everlasting life in Heaven with him.
It's simple, all you have to do is accept that you are a sinner, look to Jesus Christ, pray to him, tell him that you believe he died for your sins on the cross, ask him to come into your heart, forgive you of all your sins and save your soul. Friend if you asked Christ to save you and you believe he did, you have eternal life and nothing can ever change that. Eternal life begins at salvation. God Bless You.
