Album Notes A Tribe Called Quest: Q-Tip, Phife (vocals); Ali Shaheed Muhammed (DJ). Additional personnel includes: Ms. Vinia, Diamond D., Busta Rhymes, Charlie Brown, Brand Nubian, Lord Jammar, Sadat X (vocals); Ron Carter (bass). Producers: Skeff Anselm, A Tribe Called Quest. Engineers include: Bob Power, A Tribe Called Quest, Pete Christensen. Recorded at Greene Street Studios and Soundtrack Studios, New York, New York. With their second album in 1991, they became serious contenders for Public Enemy's (until then) undisputed crown as hip-hop's cultural leaders. However, where their debut was propelled by a disparate array of samples, The Low-End Theory was built on a stricter musical doctrine - its spine provided by bebop jazz. Though jazz-rap crossover would become a staple of popular music in the mid-90s (Gang Starr, Jazzmatazz, etc.), this album played a substantial part in breaking down barriers between genres. Phife Dog and Q-Tip are on great form too, making the most of Quest's energetic production with cool asides and insightful observations ('The Infamous Date Rape', 'Showbusiness'). If you like this, you will definitely like Midnight Marauders. Highly recommended. Review ID: 10000000003685794 Was this review helpful? Theres just way too many great tracks to list. Having Busta Rhymes and various others on the album really sets it off I bought it when I was around 15 years of age, now that I'm 29, the album means so much more. If I had to compare this to the other greats of that time,,,I would'nt be able to. Review ID: 10000000001348414 Was this review helpful? Report this review Review created: 04/25/05 by: underdawg -- a member of Epinions Pros: Beats, lyrics, Flo. Cons: That some people grew up thinking P. Diddy is hip hop. I don't really listen to hip hop. The only rap groups I like are the Roots, De La Soul, and A Tribe Called Quest. Nowadays rap seems too aggressive, and a rapper will either spit out rhymes that just plain suck or are convoluted and too complex. Jurassic 5 is one group that I liked for a while, but I got tired of them because all they seemed to do is rhyme vocabulary words. The Tribe suffers from neither of those problems. In The Low End Theory, you'll notice their signature laid-back jazzy beats and their laid-back rhymes. Jazz (We've Got) has a great beat; it has drums that sound real, and.. When A Tribe Called Quest (ATCC) entered the scene in 1991, with their classically known album The Low End Theory, they weren t given a label. Old Skool was a vast label comprising of many artists, and ATCC needed (and still NEEDS) their own category. Comprising of three members, Q-Tip, Phife and Ali, the three took jazz and hip hop too a whole new level. After releasing The Low End Theory (TLET), ATCC made the next in their array of great albums... One of these is the first two LPs from the classic group led by emcee Q-Tip called A Tribe Called Quest. After exploding on the scene with their hit single Scenario, everybody wanted more of this unique team. One of the most influential albums of all time has to be A Tribe Called Quest's Low End Theory. Now, the discussion as to whether this, or Midnight Marrauders is the better album has been going on for a while, and i cant judge because i have not ever heard the latter, but i will very... Review ID: 10000000000236223 Review created: 06/19/02 by: adeptny -- a member of Epinions Pros: Smooth production and realistic lyrics covering the simplicity and complexity of life as a whole. Cons: Verbally non-complex and too short. Possibly one of the most influential albums of all hip-hop history, and easily the Tribe's best album, "Low End Theory" is a Hip-Hop masterpiece. Emcees Q-Tip and Phife Dawg are the main features and helped develop the two directions in which hip-hop would go. Phife Dawg flexes the bragadaccio rhymes with the flair that makes you believe everything he says while Q-Tip handles the more introspective rhymes as well as the first "lover-boy" MC voice. They're the old-school Talib Kweli and Mos Def, respectively, and singlehandedly create new worlds of music in their second album. The first thing.. The Low End Theory was believed that it gave more popularity to A Tribe Called Quest cause of classic hip hop songs like "Scenario" and "Check the Rhime" Low End Theory was also believed to be one of the top hip hop albums of all time, A Tribe Called Quest consists of 3 members, Q-tip, Phife Dawg, and Ali Shaheed Mahummad, although the original included Jarobi he left the Tribe before this album came, he only appeared in the 1st tribe album. The Tribe really didn't need Jarobi, they were still good without him. If you notice the album covers (with the exception of the first and the last), you.
