The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2004, DVD)

Truely awesome!
I admit, I avoided watching Lord Of The Rings when it first came out. I didn't think it would be my "thing", the fantasy movie and all the hype. I relented and finally watched The Fellowship 3 times in a row. Then came The Two Towers, wow. Then finally, after an oh-so-long wait for Return of The King, I wasn't disappointed. This is the most breathtaking film I think I have ever seen. Beautifully filmed & acted, amazing battle scenes that just can't be beaten, stunning scenery and costumes, and an amazing, gripping story that had me on the edge of my seat all the way through.
I have watched this over and over, each time finding more to love about it.

I bought the dvd to complete an collection. Also, I'm a fan. This type of story has always been intriguing to me. The story was written by J.R.R Tolkien.
In the third and final chapter of J.R.R. Tolkien's epic trilogy, Frodo is captured by Orcs, and the ring is within reach of the evil Sauron. But Gandalf continues the war against the wizard Saruman and the dark armies, while Aragorn's secret lineage may hold the key to the future. The themes of the story is Fantasy Lands, Heroic Mission, Curses and Spells, Race Against Time, Wizards and Magicians. The actors starring in this film are Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, Orlando Bloom. If you like Fantasy, then this story is for you.

What can I say, this is a fantastic buy. Peter Jackson outdid himself on all three of these movies. The sets and scenic New Zealand wow. The actors are top notch and the action sequences are fantastic. This is the extended version and like I said if you like the lord of the rings you will love this.

I chose to buy this title due to the fact that it was the last one I needed to complete my set. I had the 4 disk sets of the first two and I needed this one to finish up. I like the fact that I managed to get a quality unopened product for a good price.

Great movie, I'm glad i bought it favorite fight scenes ever, and all-star cast. be honest how can you beat four hours of the greatest of american cinema on two discs and two discs of hours of the making of it all.

This is the best of the three lord of the rings. I am glad to have received all the right disks. Be careful buying this DVD in stores as it may have the wrong disks in the case. That is the only problem I ever had with any of these movies.

I love all three movies of "The Lord of the Rings". I had to purchase this one because my disc was missing of this exact same box set I own. And of course, ebay has the best deals on movies.

I watch all three movies (extended versions) on rainy days or just because. The story lines are wonderfully created through out all three movies. The author "Tolkien" of the books had a mystical mind. I think these movies came out at the perfect time with the new "movie magic" abilities we now have.

I was estatic when I saw what I had bought. The "like new" wasn't even close. The case looked like it had never been opened and the DVD had zero smudge marks and I even wondered if it had even been viewed. This seller was awesome.

The greatest trilogy in film history, presented in the most ambitious sets in DVD history, comes to a grand conclusion with the extended edition of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Not only is the third and final installment of Peter Jackson's adaptation of the works of J.R.R. Tolkien the longest of the three, but a full 50 minutes of new material pushes the running time to a whopping 4 hours and 10 minutes. The new scenes are welcome, and the bonus features maintain the high bar set by the first two films.

Return of the King is the most dramatic film, tragic on almost a biblical level, and certainly the most satisfying. I can understand why Elijah Wood calls it "better than one and two combined". It centers on the hopeless mission to Mount Doom, which, as every fan knows, is the heart of the story. Around this we're bombarded by apocalyptic chaos and destruction on the Pelennor Fields, followed by Aragorn's hopeless march on the Black Gate. We finish at the Grey Havens, the best ending in literary and cinematic history, which encapsulates all of Tolkien's themes: courage, friendship, suffering, and passing on. It just doesn't get better than this.

I decided to buy it because it's one of those movies that every time I watch it, I find new details I missed.

A wastrel heir uses the help of midgets, dwarves, elves, Jewelry, equestrians talking trees, ghosts, a wizard and a cave geek to reclaim his family's fortune.
Set in a make believe world with flying dragons and giant insects, the heir uses a magic sword to lead an army to war. And it has explosions and talented ethnics in topical costume. Minorities are portrayed as ignorant and unwashed and cannibalistic. It's a very serious film about good, evil and not being seen by a father figure that is represented as a goat's eye on top of a 2,000 foot phallus. It's a great view and lacks only for some fan favorite scenes from the book.

I ordered a CD from Half.com that I had been looking for for a long time. It was nice to find it for a good price, and in new, unopened condition. The product also arrived promptly with no problems.

I love the whole trilogy, books and movies. It's full of action, suspense and imagination. It made me laugh, cry, and rejoice. I bought this last DVD to comlete my set. I am thrilled and will watch these films over and over.

Amazing movie. One of those you can watch so many times without getting bored. No words to describe a so huge movie.

Lord of the Rings is full of adventure, noble struggles, and wonderous experiences: so we buy a DVD and dope ourselves up on fantasy for three hours. Hah! If people were only honest, noble, and courageous! The truth is, although we THINK of ourselves as a carbon copy of Aragorn, we are actually selfish, petty-minded, dishonest, ignoble, cowardly, untrustworthy, disloyal, lust-craved, bitter, jealous, unpleasant, and greedy. Neither are real wizards good-guys: real ones are evil. Oh my, do we all need help! So, instead of actually trying to become a noble person (or marrying one), we just buy the movie! Well, this movie certainly does its job - it will hold you spellbound until you come back to reality. Yes, I recommend that you get doped up on "The Lord of the Rings"!

I bought this as a Christmas gift. I already owned it. My recipient loved the movie, I loved the ease and expense of procurring it. Thank you.

This is an excellant story with adventure, high moral values, personal sacrifice and parralels to Christianity.

Any one who is a Tolkien fan knows why this is a movie that you must own. The culmination of a man's life work is wrapped up in this special addition DVD set. This movie is one that will be a favorite for a life time. My three year old son loves it, my 14 year old son loves it and I at 42 still love it. It will be a classic long after I am gone. The fact that I could find this item on E-Bay at a fraction of it's retail value was an added bonus. If you can, watch all the movies and the appendices and then form your own opinion.
The Window Cleaner

I didn't really care for the movie the first time I saw it. I was dissapointed. However, the second time I watched it (after watching the other two just before) I enjoyed it much better and paid more attention.

If you want to watch Aragon mature into the man he is supposed to become. The conflict between dwarf and elf continues to be a good laugh. Will love concure all?

Overall I really enjoyed it.

With outstanding effects and an incredible story line, you can't go wrong with this movie. The extended versions give such a better view on the story. Explaining details that if you hadn't read the books, you wouldn't understand. If you are a fan of the books, you need the extended versions. There is incredible character depth, as you feel that you know them personally. This is a wonderful story.

If you have never seen the extended version of the DVD Lord of the Rings you do not know what you are missing... it is well worth the extra money to see the extended footage integrated into the movie

This DVD along with the other 2, with all their added scenes, extended scenes and awesome documentary material, make the extended versions of the films a great ride. One of the better features is the in depth behind the scenes look at how much time, love and energy went into creating these epics. Of the 3 extended versions this one has the most added material to the film itself with a HUGE amount of character development, namely with Viggo/Aragorn and his lineage. All in all a great buy if purchased used. HIGHLY recommended to any serious Lord of the Rings fan.
PS I hoe Peter Jackson produces and directs the Hobbit as well
