I have several games that I play every year and this is one of them. My top games...Gears of War, Rainbow Six Vegas, Halo, Halo2, Zelda Windwaker and Ocarina of Time. I highly recommend this game. It's a classic.

Ocarina of Time with a little something extra
Review created: 10/09/07

the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Master Quest is a re-release of both versions of the game, the original Nintando 64 version, and the cancelled Ura Zelda version for the N64DD add-on. Both games are included on this pre-order bonus set, and it is indeed worth checking out.
The Master Quest itself is mostly the same as the original game, as far as I know only the dungeons were altered. The room layout is the same, but with new puzzles and fiendishly-placed extra enemies that make things a lot more difficult in some areas. Overall it was nice to play these remixed dungeons, but I wish they had made some more changes for this release, it's different enough to be fresh and fun after a couple years, but too similar to warrant playing both versions back-to-back.
Being a Gamecube release, Nintendo wisely decided to put the games into high-resolution, making the graphics quite a bit crisper than the originals. Too bad the framerate hasn't improved, it runs at probably 20-30 FPS, which is pretty strange considering the Gamecube is infinitely more powerful than the N64. Still, OoT is plenty playable, the framerate is only an occasional nuisance. There a a couple minor sound issues as well, and the save system seems tedious with the addition of the memory card (much like the FF anthologies on PSX). But hey, still no load times, God bless cartridge games for that.
The control is nice, adapting to the GC controller really only takes a few minutes to master.
Overall I'd recommend checking out the Master Quest, but remember that deja can be misleading, especially in remixed dungeons.

  A great 2 game combo

This is a 2 disc/game combo from Nintendo. You get the Legends of Zelda Ocarina of Time, along with the never released Master Quest.

As with any Zelda game this is awesome! The gameplay continues to be some of the best notch in all gaming systems or games.

I can play this game for hours!

5/5

An Awesome Rebirth of a True Classic
Review created: 03/05/07(updated 10/26/07)

When this game originally released in 1998, I like many, considered it to be the best game of all time. Not having played "The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess" yet, I am still inclined to think this. Sometime ago, I disposed of my Nintendo 64, along with all my games. This was a huge mistake. To my relief, Nintendo decided to re-release this game for the Nintendo Gamecube. The game itself is actually two games in one. You can chose to play the original version, or you can chose to play the ultra-hard Master quest version. The storyline is still the same, but the dungeons have been what I call "ultra-upgraded." This version is freakishly hard, plan and simple. It took me three months to beat it!
Playing the Gamecube version of this game has both advantages and disadvantages. This game features slightly improved graphics over the original 64 version. However, they are still dated by today’s standards. The controller takes some getting used to as well.
Some minor things have been changed, even in the original version. For example, the song to the Fire Temple was completely re-done, along the Korki Forest song. The large blocks in the dungeons also bear a new symbol, as opposed to the original “moon” symbol. The mirror shield design has also been changed. The "Relinqum of Sprit" song was also slightly deeper in the original 64 version.
Overall, I would say that this is an awesome rebirth of a true classic and is well worth the price. Any hardcore Zelda fan like I am should give the Master Quest Version of this game a go. It will keep you guessing for months!

  Very good for the gamecube

Very very good game. A must have. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time may be the greatest single-player video game ever created in any genre. It's that good. Those new to Nintendo's enormously popular Zelda series will be glad to know this game stands completely on its own. Our hero, Link, starts the game as a young boy living in a magical forest village populated by elf-like children. But there is evil lurking in the world. Strange monsters are appearing, and the land is changing. It's up to Link to discover why, defeat the monsters, and stop the evil at its source.
The game world's ever-changing environment looks like a fairy tale come to life. Majestic waterfalls, towering castles, and magical forests are a feast for the eyes and ears. Rivers flow, rain falls, the sun and moon rise and set. There's even an erupting volcano! Exploring this world is half the fun of the game. Along the way, you learn musical tunes that you can play on the flute-like Ocarina, a magical device that helps you teleport, alter the weather, even control time itself.

If you loved the Nintendo 64 version of this game, then you've got to buy this one. This faithful port of Ocarina of Time also includes the never before released Master Quest version, featuring remixed dungeons and tougher challenges.

The visuals are upgraded to run in 640x480 resolution on the original Ocarina of Time, and 480p (progressive scan) support on the Master Quest version. The sound is upgraded to Dolby Pro-Logic. Minimal load times before initial start-up and when accessing the menus

Both versions of the N64 classic are included on one disk. Disk includes demo movies of Nintendo titles like F-Zero, 1080, and Wario World.

  Nostalgia never dies
Review created: 12/15/08

I admit I will always have a soft spot for nostalgia. Whether or not bias overrides objectivity is a grey area, but for me - the games of my generation were the defining godfathers ... the great "ancestors" of the game world. Games like Final Fantasy VII and VIII, Skies of Arcadia and the entire Legend of Zelda series bring me back at least every 1-3 years, with unparalleled replay value.
This game is no different, remade and with the added Master Quest, the replay value is even greater for a switch up - while of course having the nostalgia option of default Ocarina of Time. I won't bother reviewing the game itself, as we all know how great it is. As for how it performs, it is great on the GC. I am a fan of the GC controllers and it only took a moment to be swinging out on the adventure again - the built in rumble is a bonus to my old 64 controller for which I had to find the rumble pack and put into the controller slot or find batteries for it.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any better...
Review created: 10/12/08
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

They pull this. I have played the original Ocarina of Time for N64 and beaten it a total of 10 times. I love every aspect of the game, but let's face it: around the 3rd play through, even the Water Temple isn't that bad anymore.

Not true with "Ura Zelda". Dodongo's Cavern is even a butt-kicking. While the graphics and sound leave something to be desired, the game only gets better on the Cube with harder dungeons and even more challenging puzzles. Even a college student needs to use the walkthrough in spots.

Love it.

Though the graphics are the same as the Ocarina of Time for the N64, the Ocarina of Time/Master Quest game gives you the chance to play a more challenging version of OoT, and, for gamers that never had an N64, it gives them a chance to play one of the best games of the Zelda series.

Not only do the zelda bonus discs that are on the gamecube go up in value / demand every year. They are even fun to play over and over. I have beaten the game multiple times and each time is like the first for me. I enjoy all the zelda games but this is one of my favorites.

This came out with preordering Wind Waker. What a great freebie! Ocarina of Time is considered by me and millions of others the best Zelda yet and the best videogame period. It's only better that we finally can play Ura Zelda or in English, "Master Quest" The dungeons are a lot harder, I found some puzzles easier than the original but only a couple, most are a bit harder.

The best Zelda game ever made!
Review created: 06/04/07

This product was released while I was in college and luckily during the summer. For weeks my roommates and I were glued to the TV around the clock playing this game. As is cutomary when you defeat a game with a bunch of friends, there are parts you pass and accomplish and parts they succeed at conquering. I had to purchase the game and play it again so I could defeat it single-handedly. This game belongs in everyone's collection!

Zelda: Ocarina of Time w/ Master Quest
Review created: 02/05/07

Ocarina of Time was fantastic on N64. With the transport to the Gamecube it makes it even better, especially when you can take the Master Quest that makes the dungeons even harder. This just makes the game more playable. If only everyone could play this version.

  Must have for Zelda fans
Review created: 11/04/09

This game encompasses the best thing about Zelda, The Ocarina of Time. And proceeds to make it even better with the Master Quest. When you start playing MQ, you will notice it's a lot like the original OOT, But then you realize once you step inside the Deku tree, that this is a whole new ball game. The dungeons and temples in MQ are completely remixed to provide an even more quizzical version of OOT. Absolutely fantastic and maddening all at the same time. If you have the opportunity to pick this title up, do it!

Good chance to play a classic title.
Review created: 10/17/09

Ocarina of Time stands as one of the greatest video games ever to be published. The story is grand and epic, the gameplay offers a good blend of an action/adventure game with mix of RPG elements thrown in. The graphics, although slightly upgraded on the Gamecube, are still very dated.

The disc allows the player to either choose to play the original game, or the slightly modified Master Quest version. The Master Quest is 95% identical to the original, the only difference being that the dungeons, though pretty much the same lay out, have been re-mixed. For example, you may find a different set of enemies in a room that weren't there in original or some of the puzzle elements must be solved in a different manner.

This bonus disc is a great opportunity to play the game for those who haven't yet, and the Master Quest version offers those who've already played the original something different while they're intoxicated in their nostalgia.

  awesome game made better!
Review created: 10/08/09

ocarina of time is in my opinion the greatest game eveer made! graphics for its time are great, and the puzzles are well put together. as if its not a good enough game, it also includes master quest, which is a harder version of the same game.
if your not intersested in that, i would recomend the legend of zelda collectors disc, which includes ocarina of time, majoras mask, and also the zelda games from the nes!
