The one Zelda game to sure stand out...

Out of all the Zelda games I’ve played, this is the one that stands out in my mind because it’s so different. The people of Nintendo had to get really creative to making this game since it draws on elements from previous Zelda games as well as elements outside of the world of Zelda if you pay close attention (I’ll let you all ponder that), but the game it mostly draws from is Ocarina of Time, since it continues from Link’s encounter with the Skull Kid in Ocarina of Time. There are also various other characters from Ocarina of Time as well as its share of new ones in this game.

The game only allows the player 3 days to complete tasks, but it only takes one playing the Melody of Time to save the game and go back in time to the first day. There are other ways in the game to save the game without having to go back in time to the first day though, as well as ways to manipulate time such as speeding it up or slowing it down. This game also has an RPG feel since one also does things in the game for other characters that may require things like getting an item and going back in time with it to use it and as a result “changing history”, typical things players do in Role-Playing Games. One also gets to use several kinds of masks in the game to interact with or manipulate characters. Sometimes though I felt as if time was going too fast for some tasks I wanted to complete.

If you’ve enjoyed playing an RPG or two and if you’re willing to play Zelda with a slightly different twist you’ll enjoy this game.

Like Zelda II, Majora's Mask lost it's "magic" and that certain flair that you find in Zelda games. Although the music is great as always, and the boss fights are memorable, the game is short, and after a little ways into the game, it almost doesn't feel like a Zelda game anymore. If you are a hard core Zelda fan like me, then I recommend trying it, otherwise buy a better game.

"This game was pretty good except that the Ocarina removed from the game in the last game, "The Ocarina of Time", by zelda so the people didn't make it so really connected as they were supposed to" my kids told me. Good game though...

I THINK THAT IT WAS THE WORST ZELDA GAME EVER MADE. I WISH THAT THEY WOULD JUST BLOW THIS GAME OUT OF THIS WORLD SO I WOULD NEVER HAVE TO SEE IT AGAIN. IT WAS LIKE THEY RAN OUT OF IDEAS FOR GAMES AND JUST FLUFED THEIR WAY THROUGH THIS GAME.

NEVER PLAY IT, NEVER BUY IT, AND NEVER RENT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Link works with a time limit!

I found this Zelda game most challenging! This time you start the game off just after you have finished your quest of being the Hero of Time and saving Hyrule. You're in the woods with your horse Epona when all of a sudden some silly little skull kid steals your horse and your occarina and runs off. What a punk, chase after him and the game will begin. When you finally catch up to him he curses you to be a Deku child. You'll be stuck this way if you can't get some help! After you follow him through the woods one of his faeries wasn't fast enough and decides to help you in your plight. Her name is Tatl (her brothers name is Tael, get it?)
She leads you through the woods in the tunnels and you come up inside a giant clock, there you will find a man who is carrying many masks in his satchel. (If you're observent you'll see Mario's face in his bag.) He asks for your help, but you must complete your task within 3 days before the man leaves town.
Hurry up and find that skull kid who stole your occarina! You'll need it! Once you get your occarina back, you'll have a flash back...The Song of Time! Zelda is speaking to you, do you remember the song? Play it on your occarina and you're back to day 1. Head back to the guy in the clock tower, he'll help you in your situation, he teaches you the song of healing! Yay, you're not a plant anymore, the plant creature has now become a mask! You can use this mask now to transfom yourself and aid in your quest!
You will find many masks in your journey, several are very important to completing the game. If you're a Zelda freak like me you'll have to collect them all. This will require a LOT of side quests! The best part about Zelda! That is the main reason I found this game so hard to beat.
All the usual weapons come along in this game, the boomerang as always, your arrows, even a really sweet sword, that strangely enough is a C-button item. (You have to collect all of the missing faeries for that!) The elements come into play in this game too, there's always a fire, water, & earth dungeon to complete to move on in the game. Be sure to talk to everyone, they all have something to say, they might even tell you something useful or even amusing. =)
I think anyone who enjoys the challenge that these games create will certainly appreciate this game. Having to go back to day one every so often will really test your skills, along with some pretty difficult side quests. (You'll have to kill some strange aliens that are stealing the cows!) One thing I really liked was the really intricate bosses, I thought they were really different than any other Zelda game. I found the water dungeon to be the most difficult of them all!
If you're up to the challenge, save the town from the falling moon, and get that skull kid who stole the mask, then you'll really feel like a hero! (Well, not to Tatl!)

What a Cool Game!
My little guy collects everything Nintendo so naturally he wanted this game.
I love the graphics and all the different things Link can do.
I think what I am going to love MOST is that it will take longer for my son to beat! My son usually beats a game in a few hours but he'll be working on this one for a bit longer....I think....I hope. : )

Awesome game to add to your Zelda Collection or Nintendo Collection, my son just got it yesterday (5/22/06) and he LOVES it!

  Who doesn't like Zelda?

Of course I have to like this game because it's Zelda. However, I don't particularly like the fact that everything has to be done in three days. It gets frustrating at times, because you get to focused on time that you miss a lot of important things that you should do. But all in all it's a fun game. It's really cool to be able to turn into other creatures. I had to buy it because I had played Ocarina of Time for about the tenth time, and when I started it again right away, I decided it was time for a new one.

This is my favorite Zelda game of all! You have re-entered Link's world, that of a youth who is on a journey looking for a lost friend, when he is suddenly attacked by an imp wearing a strange mask. He leads Link to a strange forest. There he turns Link into a Deku Scrub. Link then follows the imp again to Clock Town, the center of Termina. This is where your adventure REALLY begins. You must help Link return to normal and defeat the imp in just THREE days.

I don't care what anyone tells you, this is a GREAT GAME.

Of course, you have to buy a special card of some sort for the N64 console, but, it's worth it once you get your little gamer hands on this game.

It has three days to compelte every task, but, the Ocarina of Time is your best friend in this game. It is used in almost EVERY situation, and it's SO MUCH FUN to see if you can't get ALL The songs, along with EVERY item.

It's a continuation from the Ocarina of Time, but, it also just kind of warps its way into a compeltely different feeling from most other Zelda games. It's not entirely emmersed around Princess Zelda, as a lot of the other games that were made in this series were, in fact, it's mainly surrounding the Skull Kid, which you meet in the OoT in the Lost Woods.

Basically, he's going to destroy the planet. You have to collect a large assortment of masks in order to finally get up onto the moon and help the entire planet in three days. It's quite difficult, as you have to meet certain characters at certain places, at certain times, wearing certain masks, but, as usual, Nintendo out does itself.

It's the N64, so the graphics aren't the best, but the music is, as usual, astounding. I like to just listen to it sometimes, and have it on in the background as I'm working on a paper or some sort. Being in college, I still find this game to be one of the best that I've ever played, being the game that got me hooked onto the Zelda series in the first place, I give it two thumbs WAY up.

But, there are a lot of people that tend to compare it soully to OoT. NO GAME will ever be able to beat the first one ever made for the N64, as it is awesome, but, you definately have to give this one a chance if you want to really get into a fun filled game. It's enjoyable to anyone of ANY age, and I would recommend it to EVERYONE.

After saving Hyrule from the evil Ganondorf in "Ocarina of Time", I'm sure our hero, Link, wants a break. "Majora's Mask" has a great villain too, a young scarecrow-looking kid named Skull Kid; it has a crime, Skull Kid steals Link's horse; and a distant, parallel world, Termina. When he chases Skull Kid, Link winds up in the parallel world of Termina, where clocks constantly count down the hours before the moon comes crashing to the earth. Link has three days to figure out what's going on, save the world, and get home or he and everyone else on Termina will be destroyed.
The game has truly earned his placed in the Zelda legacy and I would recommend this game to everyone out there, you'll get a lot of fun.

If you liked Ocarania of Time, then this game is right up your alley. Majora's Mask was released 2 years after the first hit N64 Zelda release in 1998 and uses the same engine. The developers at Nintendo seemed to want to capitalize on the success of Ocarania and pumped out Majora's Mask. The game play is similar, but the story is bizarre and a little more dark than previous titles. The goal is to stop a crazy comet from destroying Hyrule...play to figure out the rest!

Legend of Zelda - Majora's Mask
Review created: 05/04/08
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This one can be frustrating at times, but well worth it.

In short, the story proceeds this way. An evil "skull kid" drags our hero, Link, unwillingly into another world by stealing his horse and his ocarina. In this other world (named Termina), it seems the moon is falling. Yes, it's literally falling down out of the sky towards nearby Clock Town, and in three days' time--boom, Clock Town is history. This is all happening because Link's nemesis has stolen an artifact called Majora's Mask, and its sinister power has transformed him into quite an evil being. Your job is to get the mask back before the three days is up, thus ending the curse and saving the town.

You'll find the village of Clock Town quite amazing in and of itself. The complexity of plots, conspiracies, and events occurring between all of its inhabitants is a bit overwhelming. Luckily, you are provided with a notebook to help keep track of it all. Each citizen of Clock Town does his/her own thing, and you'll see the people walk back and forth between stores and houses. Depending on what time you are coming through, you always have a chance of meeting someone new and possibly obtaining some new information.

Time is one of three major features of the game, and it is real-time, albeit extremely truncated. An average day in the game will last about 18 minutes or so, and to help you keep track there is a clock located on the bottom of your screen at all times. I am usually scared off by the advent of time limits--time limits in general restrict your freedom and deter exploration. But the time limit is Majora's Mask is much different; it adds an entertaining new twist to the gameplay. Early on in the game, Link manages to get his handy Ocarina back, and with it he can play certain tunes that affect the world around him. Within his repertoire is a valuable song that allows you at any time to save your progress and start back at hour zero. It might sound contradictory, but you use it quite a bit. It would be tough to finish this game in 10 three-day cycles; in only one, it's impossible.

Time plays a larger factor than just providing an ending to the game. You'll find out quickly that most of the events and people around you are time-sensitive as well. Some examples of this might include meeting someone at exactly 5:00 pm, waiting for the mailman to deliver the mail at precisely 8:00 am, or visiting a certain shop that is only open between 9:00 pm and 11:00 pm. In addition, there are certain areas of the game that you cannot access until day two or three, which reduces your available time to finish some tasks. Time will affect nearly everything you do in Majora's Mask, and Nintendo has done it in such a clever way that you can't help but smile while solving the puzzles around you.
