You can only find it on Ebay a new movie unopened, what a find, guys if you have not seen this movie your missing out, it has so many twists and turns, I loved it, A have to watch.
1 star for encouraging people to revisit or perhaps read Jane Austen for the first time. 1 star for doing its best in limited time to touch on core Austen themes, plots and characters. 1 star for some decent performances and appealing characters. But the film loses the remaining stars for its trite ending -- each character ends up happily coupled-off and there are no true villains anywhere to be seen -- and for a totally gratuitous lesbian relationship which adds nothing to the movie's plot.
shows the topice of Jane Austen to be timeless. The lives of current book club members deal with similar conflicts to those delt with by the characters in books by Austen. Human nature has not changed. Problems and their solutions remain consist throughout time.
I was not crazy about this movie. I love Jane Austen books and movies, so when I bought this one I had never seen it before. I was so excited to watch it and then when I got into it I found out that one of the couples were lesbians. That totally ruined the whole movie for me. I know I wont be popular for saying that, but the real Jane Austen would have been shocked and disappointed too..... It just wasn't for me. I couldn't finish watching it.
Definetly a "chic flick", I enjoyed it. I like anything Jane Austen, and liked how thru the movie they showed how her books applied to life in our generation. If you like Jane you will like this movie.
Great Chick Flick. Has Characters that connect with just about every stage of Female Adult lives. Funny, sad, a great film to watch with you girlfriends.
I really enjoyed this film. I bought it cold, not having seen any previews for the movie (although I did see one while I was waiting for the movie to arrive. I love all things Austen, and was pleasantly surprised to find a book club, randomly discussing all of Jane's books, while events occur in the members' lives that really mirror the book plots. Or maybe vice versa. At any rate, reading the books first makes you enjoy the movie, but I also think that watching the movie makes you want to read the books! It's definitely a "feel-good" movie, probably even a "chick flick," but I'm a sucker for happy endings with unexpected twists, which is what Austen always gives us. My sons liked it too, though.
The Jane Austen Book Club is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. You don't have to be a fan of Jane Austen's writings to appreciate this picture. The casting is genius; the script is crisp and entertaining - and you might actually learning something about 19th century English literature!
This movie is for the smart, savvy and still romantic woman. Deals with all different lifestyles a woman might be in, yet still relating it back to Austen novels--as in "some things never really change." Funny, intelligent, quick and endearing. Will watch this movie over and over, and will certainly go buy the book!
