This is obviously no 'Fare well to Arms' or 'East of Eden' but If I can say one thing about Stephenie Meyer it is that she is an excellent story teller.
I loved this book and almost wish I hadn't read it so fast. If you are in the mood for a well told and original story I would strongly recommend this book.
I do not think that Meyer's younger fans will enjoy it as much as the Twilight series but for the rest of us (18+) it is a fun and enjoyable read.
The Host is by far Stephenie’s best work to date and I look forward to what ever she produces next.
A Good book is a Good book so please don’t let the genre or her other books keep you from reading this one.

I was SUPER hesitant to read this book because I loved the Twilight series so much. I just wasn't sure The Host would be able to hold its own, but I was very pleasantly surprised. But beware, if you expecting to get something just like Twilight, you aren't going to get it from this book. Another reason I wasn't sure I wanted to read it was because I had been told it was a sci-fi book about body snatchers. I'm not much of a sci-fi person. All of that said, I absolutely loved this book. I initially borrowed a copy to read and ended up buying my own copy. (I only purchase copies of books that I know I will want to read again.) I would definitely recommend reading this book.

Best book I've read in a long time!

If you enjoyed the Twilight series, you will love this book, but don't expect it to be the same. Stephenie Meyer far surpassed her teen series with this fascinating, well-plotted novel. It's classified as an adult novel, but there is little or no sex or violence in it, so I think teens 15 and up would enjoy it too. Absorbing and very hard to put down, I loved it from start to finish. In fact, I am going to read it again, and there aren't many books I read more than once. I will definitely look for more books from SM. Her descriptions are rich, dialogue natural and interesting, and the plot moves along at a good pace. Excellent book!

The Host - you won't be dissapointed!!!

After I read the Twilight Saga (twice!), I needed to read something else so I wouldn't start it a 3rd time. I love Stephenie Meyer's style of writing and decided to try another one of her books. I had to read the prologue and flap inside the cover to understand what was going on, but after the first 50+ pages, it becomes very interesting and hard to put down. This is not a series and I wasn't dissapointed with the story, characters, or ending. I would read this again!!!

Highly recommended!!!

Ms. Meyer knows exactly how to execute her words to trap a reader. As with her Twilight Saga, reading just one page of this book will land you, hook, line and sinker. If you love Sci-Fi, you will love this book!!

In all honesty, I did not even realize how much I liked this book untill I finished! I read the book in about 2 days. It was a little difficult at first to get into because I read the Twilight books first and was hoping for something along those lines. The Host took me a few chapters to get into because it was a little strange. Stick with it,it is worth it. I finished the book on a Sunday afternoon and was so happy my boyfriend slept on the couch all day with a hangover because I cried for the last few chapters and he would have made fun of me if he was awake!! Great book - I would like a sequel!

Much better for adults than the Twilight Saga. Very well written, and it flows very well. Captivating storyline and a premise that I have not seen before in fantasy/scifi. An interesting approach to the old "aliens invading" senario.

I have read this book and listened to it on audio. It is my favorite book of all times. It is my favorite of the Stephanie Meyer Series. The book is hard to read at first because there are two voices for one character but one you get into it the book flows and you can't put it down.

It was exactly what i had hoped it would be.....Good. As far as Stephanie Meyer goes... She is an awsome writer, her imagination takes you to other places in her books, and I personally just love that about certain books. If You are looking into reading this book, you wont be disappointed.

The book was hard for me too read also, in my opinion it's not really a teen book to me, you really have to follow the book. It took me a while to figure it out. I put it down so many times and walked away. And read other books, normaly I can read a book 2-4 days but this book took me a month. Not because of the size, it was because it took me a while it figure out the people in it and to follow the story line, yes it was a little boring for me also. Being an adult and reading this book I was disappointed in it, the author is a great writer but if she comes out with another chapter book, I probably won't get it.

Since the Twilight books were focused on the younger generation I was a little skeptical about trying this book. I was told that it was focused on a little older audience than the others so decided to take the plunge.

This book is amazing! I was so wrapped into the characters and wanting to know what was happening next I could not put it down. This book has such intricate and emotional characters. Stephenie does a wonderful job of portraying not only the feelings of the characters but the mood and the surroundings so that is like you are right there observing what is going on first hand.

This book will seriously bring to your mind thoughts about where humanity is headed and where your life is as a "human"

BRAVO Stephenie you have written brilliantly and I am looking forward to a sequel. I do hope that whomever decides to make this one into a movie is talented enough to grasp so much of the emotion and the sensuality of the human/human and human/alien relationships in this book. That will be a difficult task.

You really feel for the main characters in this book and their struggle of trying to be individuals inside of one body. I cried over some struggles and some revelations. Why can't we all find our Ian ??

A great read definitely worth purchasing

If you haven't read this book you need to. It's my favorite, I've read it several times. In my opinion it's better than twilight. (I'm old and I felt like this was geared more towards and older audience.) I love the twilight series, but this is amazing.

Wow! I completely enjoyed how there was not only one plot or problem to solve, the auther kept this going until the last breath. There were so many wonderful twists that I devoured this book in a few days. I have to say my copy did NOT make it back to half.com, I sold it to a customer at work before it even got that far. I enjoyed this book that was a little more geared toward an older audience.

This is a great story that holds you until the end. The first chapter is a little confusing at first, but once you get past it it makes sense. Stephenie Meyer is an extremely imaginative. Very entertaining to read.

The Host by Stephenie Meyer Grabbed Me!
Review created: 02/12/09
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My grand-daughter has read the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer and now she is reading The Host. She checked it out of the library and held it to her heart saying "I don't want to give it back." Many a night I would call her to say goodnight and she would be crying. I would ask what was wrong and she would say "Nothing. I'm just reading The Host and it is just so emotiona that I can't help but cry." I decided that I had to get her a copy that she could keep and read however slow she wanted and have the chance to read again if she wanted. She told me that I would love it. So instead of one, I bought TWO because it was such a great price. She was right. Once you start this book you are emotionally hooked! I can't put it down. And it's so huge! My dishes are gonna just have to wait! by Barb Sehestedt

I felt the beginning was a little slow, but soon enough it gathered speed.
Character developement was strong, and I like the way she described things around her, to make you feel 1st person, and a part of the story.
Stephenie is so gifted and talented. Just wait till you read the Twilight series. you won't be able to put it down. You might even take a vacation in Folks, Washington. As I was reading her book, I felt compelled to type in the city name in Google, and sure enough she described the geography of the town to a E. She put Floks on the map. She has a fan club and website.

Happy reading,

This is one of the best novels I read and I love it. Partially because I like Stephenie's books a lot. I think I will follow all her writings since this one doesn't have an ending yet. The story may be a little bit confused in the beginning, but after first 30-50 pages, you will not put the book down until the end. Can't wait for the next one...

  Very disappointing
Review created: 07/18/08
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Stephanie Meyer started with a intriguing concept with alien beings taking over vastly different worlds and their inhabitants. I really wanted this book to be as interesting and well-written as the Twilight series.

I am not a science fiction fan, but I thoroughly enjoyed the Twilight series and I really wanted this book to be as interesting and well-written as the Twilight series.

I was terribly disappointed in this book. It was way too slow to start. It takes about a third of the book to get you really interested. There was way too much padding -- it would have made a better short story.

Bottom line, don't waste your money. There are a lot better novels out this summer.

  Stephanie Meyer, The Host
Review created: 11/09/09

I bought this book from a seller on EBay, only I never received it. EBay sent me a note saying that the seller was fraudulent, and that I wouldn't be receiving the book. Way to go EBAY. Way to protect the buyer.
I feel screwed and won't use this site ever again. I also got screwed being the seller on EBay, since PAYPAL decides that no matter what I write on my listing on EBay, they don't have to honor it. For example "NO RETURNS".
I'm disgusted, and won't be using either Ebay or Paypal ever again.
