  Haynes auto HVAC is GOOD

I bought this tome so I that could revive an old R-22 air conditioner system in my Toyota Truck. Chapters on theory and model specific pressure readings were especially helpful. It was not so helpful in describing what would happen if you tried hooking up an R-30 high side vac gauge adapter over an R-22 high-side nipple (major leak.) It also never mentioned that leaves falling into vent ducts will clog your fan and condenser enclosures. A chapter on possible R-22 substitutes would have been nice. Again, great on theory but it could have been a lot better in the hands-on chapters.

  Haynes A/C Manual
Review created: 07/26/09
by:

I purchased this manual so I could perform do-it-yourself a/c service on my 1987 Toyota truck. Even though I did a lot of research on the internet and found informative information, this book was even more so.

The Haynes book still covered the basics of air conditioning principles which can be found online but it also went into detail about specific components (like the function and operation of a expansion valve, which I have) of an automobile's a/c system and how they interrelate to each other.

Especially useful is the trouble shooting guide and fault "flow charts" to diagnose a faulty air conditioner system.

I would recommend this book. It is well written and worth the money to purchase it if you want to learn about an automobile air conditioning system.

This has helped my jobs at work and home projects. By myself, I installed a heating system in my home, which hasn't had one since we moved in (3 1/2 years ago). Thank you, Haynes.
