The Golden Compass (2008, DVD)

I had watched this movie before and wanted it as part of my collection. I went on ebay and found it. I bought it at a good value, the seller shipped it quickly and had good correspondance. I would not hesitate to buy another dvd from this seller. As far as using ebay? I have bought many items off of ebay and find it to be a wonderful tool. It is important to check the ratings of the sellers and to notify them if there is a problem. Most sellers have been wonderful and I have been extreemly satisified.

Love this movie. I get NetFlix and watch about 3 movies a week on average. I never buy movies, but I had to have this one..it is one you can watch over and over again. Once I saw it I had to have it. This movie is incredible! The graphics and special effects in this movie are breath taking.

I loved it because I read his trilogy "His Dark Materials" which includes "The Golden Compass", "The Subtle Knife" and "The Amber Spyglass". Had I not read the books I don't know if I would've liked it as much. I just hope they make the remaining 2 movies of the trilogy.

Great family movie. Our children are 2,6, and 16, and we all enjoyed it. something in the movie for everyone to enjoy!

Okay or average movie. Had a good plot, very sci-fi, but the ending was just to set up the next movie.

Great clean movie that the whole family can enjoy. They say there is a hidden anti God message but I did not see it. There are some things, but you really have to think out of the box to see what every one is complaining about. I would recommend to everyone I know.

Very Stupid movie very boring did not like at all! No excitment at all in it. If you like dull slow movies you will kike this one then!

I waited 7 years hoping the movie would be made. I wasn't disappointed!!! It was well worth waiting for!!

Here we have tangible evidence we should not let any special interest dictate what we should or should not watch. This film is a delight for children and adults as well. I shudder to think there are people out there who would find anything offensive with this film as it is overflowing with heartwarming attributes.
The visuals are astounding. The storyline is original, highly controversial (or at least in the mind of some religious groups). Maybe even more amazing to me than how good this film is, is the high volume of criticism and low ratings I have seen. It might be a case of not appreciating the complexity of the story. You can't just jump into this film and immediately know what's going on. You have to exert a little effort & brain power to work your way into this alternate universe before settling down for the ride.
I'm certain that the biggest body of complaints come from Christian factions that don't like their belief system challenged in any form. The portrayal of an evil ruling body known as the Magisterium may hit a little too close to home for some Catholics. Some may be bothered by seeing every human accompanied by what appears to be an animal familiarly referred to as a daemon* (no it's not a demon, think of the Hellenistic concept of the daemonic). *These animals are part of the individual. In this imaginary world the soul is separated from the body and exists as a companion creature that accompanies the individual throughout life.
It is a Good Movie for all ages to enjoy....so enjoy!!!

The Golden Compass, I really liked this movie with the parallel universe theme. You will enjoy the companians each character has with out giving it away thats all I will say about that. There is also the issue of the Catholic Church that was brought up when this movie first came out which I don't see. Yes there is a power in the story that is against the people seeking other worlds and I imagine that could be compared to the Church but we must remember it is a movie and if you have Faith in something this can not change that. All in All I really enjoyed the storyline but it left you hanging in the end so this is why I think this may be a Trilogy.

this was a perty good movie .i got it because it had good actor and attress in it pluse it sounded good by reading the back cover ! always liked action /drama movies plus iam a big movie person.i buy movies if i like i keep round if i dont like i sell but most of the time i get movies that sounds good but are ok . but this movie is good great enjoyment for the hole family to enjoy!

Decided to buy it because I enjoy fantasy & magical movies, however, this was a disappointment. It was built up as being so great and fantastic, it's no where near some of the movies before it. The animal effects were great, but the story line is weak, I lost interest after the first 20 minutes. As for it being a treat to God and religion as we have heard it to be, there is not a thing to be concerned about. This movie can never top "MOSES", the story of Moses was extraordinary in drama, special effects and love. The Golden Compass could never compare. Not worth the money or time. Forget about this one.
