Finally someone who puts into words the line of thought I have slowly acquired after looking at the damage done by so called "fundamentalists" like
George W.Bush and the religious organizations who voted for him.
My line of thought has been for years that if there was a God who created the earth and everything on it; why did He create so many animals that live only by killing other animals. Why not create peaceful plant eaters from the smallest creature in the oceans to the largest predators.
All could have been, God willing, peaceful plant eaters living side by side in paradise. I could also never understand how all human beings stem from Adam and Eve; in other words God allowed incest how else could we have multiplied.
All religions claim to be the One religion to be the true one; how can that be ?
Why would we think that only Christians know the true God ?
Sadly this whole story we know as the old testament is nothing but the phantasies of old men with long beards and the new testament is wishful thinking of a better world through a higher Being.
People are so blinded by their religion that they cannot see the wonders of nature striving to built a better world and having succeeded beyond all measure.
I stand in awe in front of a sequoia tree in sequoia park and look at an example of nature at its best. Older than any church built without the help of any human being. Many times over a period of two thousand years have flames consumed all surrounding vegetation but the sequoia is protected by its bark that will not burn.
I pity those readers who see the work of "Satan" in Dawkins writing and Just smile at the naive person who offers a prayer to something that does not exist.
I pity them those who shrink away in horror from the thought that there is no higher Being. nature is my "Church" and I am crateful that nature has created me and given me a brain to think. What a waste to use this marvel that took nature millions of years to perfect on delusions of a God.

All in all, a great read!!

Great book! It can get slow, and Mr. Dawkins tends to hit the same point many times over, but I really enjoyed learning and opening my mind to the many more alternatives to the traditional "god" way of life. I found myself saying to myself "I thought so!" quite often! It was a wonderful read, overall.

Great book by a great scientist.

Richard Dawkins is one of the finest science authors of our day. As a science teacher, I find myself referring to his books often.

It is high time we started questioning religious authorities and ideas. Dawkins shows that it is noble to do so. The only negative reviews possible for this book will be written by those who have not read it, or have "hardened their hearts" to the wonders of science.

The book is well-written, well documented, a pleasure to read. I also recommend "Climbing Mount Improbable" and "The Selfish Gene", and "Ancestor's Tale". Excellent books by a great science author.

I loved the fact that it challenged my belief in God, but by doing so it ironically brought me closer to Him. It's an eye opener.

  Typical excellent Dawkin´s work

Dawkins surprises us with this new work, in which I feel he gathers much of the ideas and data previously exposed in his biggest books and even from some conferences he´s given before. But he adds a lot of newer information (as new as 2006) to support his controversial but firmly and solidly scientifical theories. Still I would recommend this book only if the reader has known at least one Dawkins´s book before, because some terms and/or ideas he broadly uses need to be previously understood (in my opinion).
I guess there´s nothing bad I could think of the book, I´ve always believed Dawkins´s books should be public schools´ text books!!

I became intrested in this book after the South Park Parody. I do not hold with Mr. Dawkins beliefs, but I really enjoyed the book. I felt that Mr. Dawkin's ego kind of overshadowed the book, but overall it made me ask questions about my faith and my spiritual views and for that aspect I think he achieved his goal.

Overall I thought the book was very good and I encourage all spiritual people to read the book, because I think books like these help people grow in ways they may not have been tested.

  Very aggressive without proper research

I love hearing different points of view and I was particularly interested to hear the research behind his groundbreaking beliefs. However I was very disappointed because there was no research. Richard Dawson even admits this fallacy but apparently doesn't see it as a problem. I found it very hard to distinguish between reasonable arguments and emotional ramblings. It seems as though you can simply write a book if you have something sensational to say. I fault this particularly to our modern culture - headlines. We are simply a world excited by headlines.

  The Dawkins Delusion
Review created: 04/13/08

While some scientist believe in God, and others don't, Richard Dawkins is among the later. So many little men, puffing themselves up with their so-called knowledge.

The fool in his heart has said there is no God. God is so big, mere men can't wrap their minds around the concept. Just because you don't understand God, doesn't mean He doesn't exist.

While I acknowledge that some evil has been done in the name of religion, much good has been done also. The things that were evil were not truly of God, He just gets blamed for them. The devil is the true source of evil (yeah, I know most of you are probably laughing, but it is true and the devil is sooooo glad you don't believe in him.)

God gives us free choice, to either believe in Him and follow His ways of love, to either believe in Him, but choose to follow our own selfish ways, or to disbelieve in Him. In the end God's love will prevail.

There is a spiritual war going on, and just because Richard is blind and can't see it, he are on the loosing side. Just see how much his intellect helps him when he is dead. God gives amply proof of his existence and a person can see that just by observing all creation. However some people choose to close their eyes to the wonders of life and science and the universe that God has created.

I orderd this book. I figured the book would not come until it's scheduled day of arrival via the Postal Service. But, then it happened. The doorbell rang. "Ding Dong" Hello, here is the book you ordered, earlier than expected. I fainted in disbelief. This seller is truly wondeful.

  The Modern Bible
Review created: 08/25/09

This book examines and provides evidence on how religion corrupts peoples minds and abuses children. The arguments are provided coherently and accurately. Dawkins is a very intelligent scientist. Everyone should read this book. It will raise everyone's consciousness about the evil that is religion. One of the most important points made in the book include that fact that as education goes up, religion goes down.

  the book is great

I bought the book after hearing Richard Dawkins speak. As an atheist, he says the things that are hard for me to articulate. He makes me feel like I have the right to not believe without worrying about offending the religious. The book is fair and balanced.

Those who are curious or have free thinking minds should read this book. Hopefully, there is a television broadcasting company who have the guts to show the excellent two hour documentory that Dr. Dawkins made.

I absolutely loved it. I decided to buy it because I read the Wikipedia page on it. It was a great decision. I feel the absolute same way for a lot of the examples that the author put up. You will not be disappointed with your decision to purchase this book.

Just as the title implies...why God can't exist!
Review created: 02/03/09

Dawkins, outspoken atheist and prominent critic of religion, whose colleagues may disagree with what he has to say and what he bases his theories/logic on... even his intellect and knowledge on the subject come under scrutiny by scholars and "believers"...I found this book to be written in a highly intelligent and rational fashion...the arguments for atheism by Dawkins are strong and very well researched...it's up to the individual reader to believe or not to believe...but have "Faith", you'll enjoy this book whether atheist, agnostic or believer...
I recommend this book to anyone with the intellect to understand it!!! if you are a "Faithful Believer and Devout Church-Goer", this book may offend you, but everyone has a right to express their opinion, which Dawkins does quite well!!!

***as a side note, there's a DVD featuring one of Dawkin's highly esteemed colleagues from Oxford, Dr. John Lennox (who's a believer), debating the existence of a God...also quite good (and funny at times!), as it delves deeper into this controversial subject (The Dawkins-Lennox Debate)...there are also several debates on CD or DVD with other intellectual "believers"...

I had seen the author on weekend BookTV on C-Span II discussing his book. The subject is extremely interesting, and Dawkins is an eloquent spokesman. He does not disappoint. Should be required reading in all public schools.

  Dawkins is the delusional one.
Review created: 04/15/08

To clear up a point made by the last reviewer. God oringinaly created all animals to be plant eaters, it was not until after the fall of man that man and animals were required to feel pain. This is all laid out in the bible. Now, on to my main point. I am dissapointed that anyone would read just one book and come to the conclusion that God does not exist. If you do just a little research about evolution, the creation of the universe, etc... you will find that it takes far more faith to be an athiest than it does to be a christian. For instance, the "Big Bang" is the accepted theory of the universe which lays out the fact that the universe had a beginning, therefore a creator. Evolution basically states that inanimate matter managed to orginize itself and eventually conteplate itself. I would argue that that takes more faith than believing in God. My only hope is that people would not let their eternal salvation hinge on a single book, especially on one written by Richard Dawkins. God bless.
