Falls very short of The Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy
I bought this because I absolutely LOVED "The Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy"...it was a wealth of useful information and I laughed out loud from cover to cover. However, I was a little disappointed in "The Girlfriends' Guide to Surviving the First Year of Motherhood". Maybe it's because I didn't read it until I was 5 months into my first year, but I didn't find it nearly as funny or enlightening. Also, I desperately wanted it to give me humorous advice about caring for my new baby, but instead it focused almost solely on the mother and the effects of childbirth and motherhood on her mind and body. Not that those aren't important issues, but surviving the first year is just as much (or maybe more) about caring for your baby than dealing with your own personal problems. Overall, it's a decent read -- it just doesn't stand up to its predecessor.
