I purchased this book because of my interest in knitting and was kind of disappointed in some of the contents. There were places that I didn't care for the inuendos. Some practical ideas about what is involved in operating a yarn shop in a large city and how to expand into other areas were good.

Would not recommend this book to others, not focused on the Knitting "Club" but about the interelationship of the Woman who owns the shop, a white woman with a Black man and their out of wedlock child - hence "& daughter" name of shop. Not interesting at all.

The book dragged out!!! It took forever for the author to get to the point and tell the story! Their where too many characters that had too little a role that the author tried to describe. And even out the midway point of the book the story had not opened up. If you have a lot of time on your hands then try reading this, but if you are looking for a good story, I would not recomend it!

I loved this book. I think most women can relate to the women in this story. I was very surprised at the ending and actually shed tears. I am also an avid knitter.

Interesting book; if you're a knitter, you'll enjoy....
Review created: 06/05/09

Being a knitter myself, I found this an interesting book. Characters were drawn slowly and I liked all the different personalities.I enjoyed the way the knitting club formed gradually. I wasn't expecting it to end the way it did......while most knitters are women, many years ago I had an uncle who used to knit wonderful sweaters for himself and his family - he said it helped him to relax.....his other hobby was advanced mathematics!!

I bought this book because after I read the library edition I had to have my own copy. It is one of the best books I've read in awhile. The friendships and love is so real. I felt like I knew the women in the book. They were my friends too. This is definately a MUST read.

I am a mad knitter & had seen this book at the bookstore & at my local yarn shop. While trolling eBay for more yarn (never enough!), I saw The Friday Night Knitting Club up for auction & thought I'd finally give it a read. I'm only 2 chapters in & am very much invested with the characters. Also love the idea of living in New York City - Can't wait to finish this engrossing read!

I bought the book for book club.

It was a good read. Very interesting story line about old and new friends that meet at a knitting shop.

If you like stories that are inspiring I would recommend the book.

I really enjoyed the diverse characters in this book, and the fact that their hobby drew them together. Even if you don't knit, you will relate to these women and realize how their relationships in this club give them strength to face life's challenges. Reading it was like curling up in a warm knitted afghan. I liked it so much I gave mine to my Mother and bought two more--one for my friend who does knit, and my daughter-in-law.

  First Novel--nice try

This book was my bookclub's choice, (the main reason I felt required to finish it.) The women have interesting, but not compelling stories. They are skillfully woven together. I greatly admire Jacob's ability to write a publishable novel. I appreciate how difficult that is.
But, I will not be interested in following this author. Why? Just not quite interresting enough.

  There is strength in numbers...
Review created: 07/17/08

I really enjoyed the overall storyline. How a single mom manages to open her own yarn shop in New York and how "The Friday Night Knit Club" was born after a small loyal group gather strength from each other. The reader will learn each character's personal demons they have to deal with and how they are comforted by being together. The book is likened to a "Steel Magnolias" type feel. I do however feel the book ended too abruptly. It seems too many loose ends are left behind, and I would have liked to know more depth of the characters. 3 stars***

I bought this book because my book club will be reading it in the near future and had heard wonderful reviews on it. I read it and thought it was o.k. It is another feel good story about a group of women who benefit from the central character's strength. I felt the story was choppy, going from one character to another too quickly. I felt that some of the secondary characters didn't get developed enough and I wanted to know more about them too. The ending was unexpected, but did draw attention to female medical issues that should not be ignored, but are in too many cases. Good knitting tips were interwoven throughout the story. I thought that made it interesting, and fit well with the chapters.
