The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

An amazing book that can help anyone in their personal life. I HIGHLY recommend this book and "The Voice of Knowledge" also by Don Miguel Ruiz. Take a chance, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain; you will not regret your choice at all.

  Incredible! Would recommend to anyone!
Review created: 08/03/08

This is my fifth purchase of this excellent book! This book has so changed my life that I give it as gifts to people that I love and people I know can absorb this book and better from it. My only regret is that the book is found in the "New Age" section of the booksellers. This is FAR from NEW AGE! See my first sentence below

6000 year old teachings of the Toltec Indians? Are you nuts? Thats what I thought when a PHD'd professor recommended the book to me! Since I have tons of respect for her and she is a tenured professional that I love and adore for her lifelong advice, I set aside my off the cuff opinion [once again, addressed in the book] and devoured this little epistle in one night!

The book makes you better understand what is important in life, where you came from [regardless of background, did I mention this is addressed in the book too?] and how to chart you course for the future.

I am the CEO that thought he knew EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING! Self help dribble was just that to me, dribble. Now, after reading the "Four Agreements", I crave and am constantly on the lookout for books of this type.

My relationships with my family are much better, my staff communications and exchanges are great [from blind feedback of my own employees] and my relationships with my own friends are even better.

Cannot recommend this book enough! Worthy of your read!

Eric

I can't really comment on this purchase because I never received the book. The Seller said he sent it and even had a confirmation number but I never received it. I bought one (from a different seller) and had it sent to a friend of mind so we could discuss. He has his but I don't have mine!

  Good idea, in theory

Theoretically a good idea, but if you are suffering from a life strangeling depression or PTSD, do not read it. Depression is worsened as it calls into question everything you believe about yourself, your existence, thus making your doubt's and belief's even more magnified.

One of the simplest and clearest explanations of how life works and how to create a life of joy and love by taking responsibility for one's own experience. I have been an apprentice of one of Don Miguel's original apprentices for almost six years now and I still find gems of wisdom in this book that I can apply to my life in a real and practical way

  Good Principles
Review created: 06/04/08
by:

The book was recommended to me by a business coach who said it should become a part of my personal development library. Well, it has and I am fairly happy with the content of the book.

The four agreements, be impeccable with your words, never take anything personally, never assume anything, and always do your best, are four great lifelong principles to focus and build upon. Those are great and there is much truth to each one.

My only problem was sifting through Perez' Toltec background. I mmerely supplanted those references with biblical principles. The references to black magic vs white magic were also not appealing.

After funneling out all that, I found the book to be a great encouragement with sound principles and everyday truths with a good measure of common sense mixed in.

Four simple agreements: a life-long practice.
Review created: 04/13/08
by:

The first time I encountered this book, I flipped through it over lunch, and dismissed it. Yeah, sure, I 'agree', but it's all so simple. Then, a friend I greatly admire and respect for her wisdom said "Did you see this GREAT book?

That's when I figured out that I had quite obviously missed something. What I missed is that these four agreements only seem simple: they're not. Sure, they're easy to intellectually understand, but as a spiritual practice, in daily application--- you really wouldn't need to seek any further.

I could probably work on "Don't take things personally" for years. There are three more agreements, and I don't seem to be able to remember what all four are at any given time. It's not so simple as I first thought.

This book may be full of profound insight, but what is best about it is how it leads you to discover your own insights from trying to put the concepts into practice in daily life. Those are things that don't fit between the covers of the book; they are what makes it 'yours'.

I've often recommended this book to people I know who are in faltering relationships--- even though and because it's not a typical 'relationship' book. Even if the relationship fails, the person who attempts to apply the concepts, will come through any struggles enriched, with a new ability to see things from a different perspective.

  Words to live by!
Review created: 04/10/08

Don Miguel Ruiz does an excellent job capturing the readers attention. He has written the Toltec wisdom in a way that can be read with ease and enjoyment. I truly couldn't put this book down; except for the times I would stop to reflect on how this wisdom affected my life and my way of thinking. It really helped to propel me to a higher level of spiritual understanding and gave me something 'real' to hold myself accountable for. All the while I never once felt like I was ever a bad person before making these positive changes. I simply became more enlightened. Once you become aware and more enlightened; you can't go back to the way you thought before. It's virtually impossible. With that said; this is a SUPER EASY WAY TO BECOME MORE AWARE AND ENLIGHTENED!

I really, really hope each and every one of you read this book and pass it on to every single person you know!

Blessings to all! Namasté

I heard of this book from one of my Medical School Professors, and I decided to buy it. I love this book, because it has given me a new aspect on life and the decisions that I make everyday. I like the small size of this book, and also the ease at which it can be read. Wonderful book/manual for your life. Nothing bad to say about it.

A Succinct, Vital Manual For Personal Change
Review created: 09/08/07
by:
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Don Miguel Ruiz is gently direct and plain-spoken in this remarkable and penetrating book. I found each chapter to be a "mirror" for me to see and understand my personal weaknesses and how my agreement with my faulty emotional programming causes much of the absence of peace in my daily life.
If one only focused on the Second Agreement--Don't Take Anything Personally, what a difference it would make in how we preceive and treat others regardless of their behavior toward us. The other three agreements are just as enlightening and vital to understand and apply in our lives.
Don Miguel Ruiz defines, expands and illustrates clearly to us the spiritual meaning of the universal and fundamental law of LOVE--love toward self, fellow man and the Creator of the Universe.
As an avid reader of self-help and spiritual enlightenment books, I have a growing collection of fine authors on these subjects. But I found The Four Agreements to be the most succinct and easy to understand book about inviting peace of mind into my life that I have ever read.
This book is a quick read with only 138 pages. But it is a book you will highlight, write in and read many times over, as I am doing.

The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz (1997)
Review created: 07/05/07

This is another "self help" book among thousands and offers a simple message on how to be a happier person with a more open mind about life. I was concerned at first that my religious beliefs were under attack until I determined that they could be harmonious. This book is a simple, fast, and worthwhile read; the four agreements offered deal with agreements with yourself and are based on Toltec Wisdom. I found that I needed to learn more about the Toltec philosophy that is not well documented until recent times. A good additional resource to compliment don Miquel Ruiz, was wrtten by one of his apprentices, Sheri Rosenthal, and endorsed by Mr. Ruiz, "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Toltec Wisdom"- on sale through Amazon.com, by the way.

  Blending of teachings
Review created: 06/20/07
by:

I enjoyed this book because it blends teachings of Judaism, Christianity, Muslim and Indian into what could quite possibly be a guide for anyone wanting to be the best they really can be. Many of the teachings are founded on truths. It blends it in such a way that all the great qualities can be utilized. His rules are simple and very much like Dale Carnegie's How to win friends and influence people. I bought many to give to my students graduating High School. A great book to add to the people tool kit on my shelf.>^,,^<

The Greatest Self Help Book out there today

I love this book because it not only inspires you, it motivates you to just be the best you can be. It helps simplify what we tend to make so complicated in our lives. I bought this book because I feel it is a book that each person could benefit from by reading it at least 2-3 times a year just as a refresher. I have purchased this book for everyone that I could think of that could truly, honestly benefit from. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book to anyone that is wanting to make some sense and find some happiness with themselves in this already complicated world.
