WOW! This information is priceless. If you want to better understand your mate read this book. READ IT TOGETHER for the most benefit. This is great stuff that really will help you reach your partner. It will help show your partner that you love them. All of us feel love in different ways- Chapman shows us what those ways are and how to demonstrate that love to the ones we love. Just because you need to hear "I love you" to feel love, doesn't mean that that is the way your partner knows that you love them.

This can transform your marriage if you implement the ideas in this book into your life.

Terrific book- better if you both read it

Simple language & easy to follow. Great for those who don't like to read becuase you really don't have to read the whole book to get what you need. Everyone has a a special way in which they show & give love. Some are into gifts. Others prefer words of affirmation. Still others prefer & ned the gift of time. Really helps to better understand those around you. Life can be so much easier if you & your partner both read this book with an open mind & the desire to make each other happy.

I have a copy at home...read it, loved it...now buying copies for my friends and family. It is a quick read and an easy concept to grasp...each person gives and receives love in their own way...the key to happy healthy relationships is making sure your partner knows your language and that you know theirs...applies to marriages, dating, parenting, friendships--all relationships.

  The Five Love Languages

I purchased this book after it was recommended by a gentleman who came to our school to give a bullying presentation. He mentioned the book several times, and it caught my attention. After I received my copy, I read it cover to cover in one day. After talking to my husband about it, he agreed not only to take the husband test (the book comes with two extensive tests that determines the husband's and wife's love languages), but he also agreed to read the book. He has definitely come to realize (without even reading the book) how not talking my love language (quality time) means I don't respond to his love language (physical touch.) It's been a day and already we've spent more time just talking than we have since we've had kids. I am planning on buying this book for all my friends who are getting married this summer and even my aunt who is celebrating her 27th anniversary this summer...even she can learn something from this book. It's an easy read and very insightful. *****

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and often use this book to help struggling marriages. Actually, I believe this is one of the best and most valuable books available for ALL married couples. It helps couples learn to fill up each other's "love tanks" by understanding the emotional needs, or "love languages" of their partner. This book is a MUST for every married couple, but especially for those couples who are struggling, feeling unloved, unappreciated, or unfulfilled in their marriage. Once couples start speaking their spouse's "love languages," they will definitely enjoy a much happier marriage!

The book is not boring to read. Its full of information on how to succeed in relationships based on the way people react to certain kinds of gestures, and love languages. Basically there are 5 love languages and people will react to their love language which may or may not be the same as yours. This book will show how to eaasily determine the love language of the person whom you want to love and yourself. Once you figure this out, you then will understand and know how to love and be loved, through your actions and words. It should change your relationship for the better.

I thought this book was very insightful. It offers examples of several couples' situations in their marriages and how learning each others love language conquered it. It opened my eyes to learning to express my love differently not just towards my husband but towards my daughter, friends, and other family who have different love languages. I would definitely recommend this book, it is easy to read and even has a little quiz at the end to help you discover your love language.

Self-help book on how to improve your relationship

This is a great book that takes a completely different approach to helping out your relationship with your partner. I first checked this book out from the library and then decided there was so much good material in it that I wanted to own my own copy. However, the e-bay purchase did not work out and I never did obtain my own copy. This approach implys that each of us seeks "love" in different ways and that if we are knowledgeable about the way our partner needs to receive affirmation about your relationship that you will be filling their "love tank" so to speak. Their are specific examples and easy to follow directions. The "love language" that works for you may not work for your partner and so you need to explore what works best for him/her. A short book that packs a big punch and worth reading.

Excellent Help for All of Your Key Relationships
Review created: 05/25/08

My husband and I first read this with each other in mind, but this also REALLY helped me learn what made my children tick. I ignored the love language of "gifts" when I first read it, because that sounded shallow and trite to me. When I understood that GIFTS was our daughter's love language, it made life so much smoother.

After that big eye opener I looked more closely at my co-workers and was able to really work better with them because I understood things they said and did through their lenses. This book helps you have patience and mentally "walk a mile in another's shoes" by simply understanding their love language.

This is an excellent book for both married and single/dating. Would highly recommend for anyone to sit down with their significant other and read this book together. I bought the book due to the pastor of my church doing sermons from it and after my wife read it we have had a much happier marriage and relationship.

This book was the first book I ever went through in a small group setting. It is an awesome resource for couple that are struggling in areas of communication, intimacy, and just plain relating to each other. The book breaks us down into five different "languages that we receive and give love. I think this book is one that you read more than once in your lifetime...especially if you're married.

A Spiritual Journey of Education and Understanding
Review created: 09/08/06
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I have worked in the mental health profession for years treating married couples with a wide variety of issues that impact their relationship. Regardless of the specific issue, one component remains the same. Each individual of the marital unit does not seem to have a clear understanding of what stage they are in in their marriage and therefore have expectations that are not always consistent with the particular stage of the marriage at that moment. Gary Chapman provides a very clear and supportive description of these stages and helps couples to better understand the transitions that all relationships go through. Through better understanding comes increased tolerance and compassion. This is a must have for couples.....

I have read this book several times, and shared it with friends, and ALWAYS give it as a wedding gift! It follows so much that once you read it you will see yourself in a hundred different ways and will close the book feeling relieved that there are others... strengthened by that understanding, and with guiding information to help you understand that other person in your life. Do it together! I have yet to meet a man who has not read it with his wife!

  Marriage Transformer

This book will help you understand your partner in a whole new light, no matter how many years you've been married! You will understand your kids, and really the whole world around you. Because of this book I was able to transform my relationship with my son--just by understanding his love language! You can be starving someone to DEATH when you think you're showering them with love, when it's the wrong language (probably YOUR language). It makes an incredible difference to understand this. You can begin making a difference in helping the people in your life to feel loved, by giving the gift that they can accept, rather than the one that you would like! And once the author points it out to you it becomes so obvious, you can't figure out why you didn't see it all along. This is a MUST read for ALL people!

I bought the book because it was recommended by a friend that was having some relationship problems. She said that the book helped very much. I borrowed her book and got half way through it and knew that I had to have this book. I thought that it brought out some excellent points that I had never realized before.

Learn how to communicate love to your loved ones.
Review created: 07/10/06

2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This is one of my favorite books. It's practical and insightful. I first used it to learn more about my children, but now I use the theory to help with several relationships. The authors premise that people have preferences for how they receive love communications and those preferences can be catagorized into 5 identifiable catagories is easy to understand and easy to use. You can learn about yourself as well and help your mate understand what you need to feel loved.

The five catargories are; Quality Time, Gifts, Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service and Physical Touch. Learn which one your mate prefers and you can learn how to quickly communicate your love to those you love.

I wish I had this book 25 years ago, my life would have been a very different experience. It would have been filled with love and joy, not the constant heartache and confusion that is was. I think EVERY high school freshman should have to read this book. I found insights into my own childhood, into my past relationships, even to the interaction within my own family. With the knowledge this book gace me, I have no doubt that my next relationship will be my best one ever. I always encourage other to read this book. I liked it so much I bought one just to loan to family and friends. I even made one of my children buy their own copy (to read over and over). If you want a book about how to give love, receive love and have a better relationship- this MUST be in your library and not gathering dust.

This book is a marriage saver! This book teaches couples to understand and communicate in a way that their partner understands. I think it is a must read for young couples considering marriage as well as those who say that their spouse just doesn't seem to understand them. My wife and I use the book as a cornerstone of our work with young couples.

My husband and I have been married 31 years, and we have really worked hard at our relationship. This book is a MUST READ to help you keep on track.
