I have played Morrowind for a long time and I still do. Those who love being able to do whatever they wish, this is the right game for it. No need to follow the main quest, no hurry to rush to the finish line. Morrowind allows you to take your time and do what suits you. For example, become a thief and pickpocket your way into riches and glory, or become a fighter and fight for the imperial cult and become famous and well known throughout Morrowind. But enough of the sweet talk. For those of you who have Morrowind, you must know that you can do whatever you wish or go wherever you please. But what you may not know is that you create your world. People interact differently with you by the way you stand in the world, this is why I love this game so much. Every game does have their downsides though. Morrowind did lack in getting to places quicker, and the fighting style is a little hard at first. The worst thing about Morrowind in my opinion is that the game did not move as quickly as I would have liked it to. Running from place to place takes a long time, and you spent a lot of your game play on just that. But don't get me wrong, it is not like you have nothing to do while running. You can explore mines, or kill roaming creatures. It is up to you. If you have beaten the game, you may notice that some things are a bit different, the most noticeable one is that people treat you differently. They respect you and are grateful for the things you have done. Though it may be a frustrating trip to beat the game, because in order to do that you must be good at fighting. This makes it hard for thieves who spent most of their time sneaking around places stealing things (which is why I cheated to get to the end :).). The mods for this game are great as well, find some good mods for this game and it will add loads of more hours to your game play. I personally enjoy the castles. If your thinking about buying Oblivion (the next elder scrolls game) I would recommend buying it as soon as possible, it fixed all the problems Morrowind had, and adds a great game. I give Morrowind a 9-10.

WHEN I FIRST GOT THIS GAME, I PLAYED LIKE AN HOUR AND GAVE UP. WENT BACK TO IT A YEAR LATER AND GAVE IT A REAL CHANCE. GLAD I DID! STARTS OUT KINDA SLOW BUT ONCE YOU START IMPROVING YOUR SKILLS, IT PICKS UP A LOT! 100'S OF HOURS OF GAME PLAY I'D BET. SO MANY THINGS TO DO AND SEE. ONLY THING I THINK IT HELD BACK WAS YOU SHOULD BECOME A GOD AT THE END. I KILLED A GOD WHY AM I NOT 1. WONDERFUL GAME IN THE 1ST PERSON MODE. 3RD PERSON IS KINDA ROUGH. YOU REALLY NEED TO STICK WITH THIS GAME IF YOU START OUT SLOW. IT WILL BE WORTH IT.

I purchased this game as a gift for a 12 year old who requested this game. I have other children who have not played it. I ordered it new from ebay as I could not find this game anywhere. I recieved it in mint condition, sealed and it arrived before Christmas. The boy I purchased it for was thrilled and says it is a great game but definitely not for some one younger than himself as it is somewhat difficult. There is also a Morrowind book you can purchase to help you with the game. You may also find this on ebay.

Everywhere you turn there is a quest begging for...

Everywhere you turn there is a quest begging for your attention. So you gather them up, store them in your journal and enjoy the sheer joy of exploring the land.
Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, a Bethesda Softworks release for the Xbox, is a single-player role-playing game that can be a touch overwhelming initially. So much is thrown at players as the game begins that unless you set your own standards for play, you may find yourself running in several directions.
But that is a good thing. The Morrowind world is huge, fraught with danger and while it may not appear so initially, there is a purpose for your place in this world not just that of a Samaritan running about helping people.
The game begins with your arrival at Vvardenfell. It seems you have been released from prison and sent to the island, though few know why. Your introduction to the world begins as you select your avatar. There are 10 races to choose from and 21 character classes (you can also create your own class and give it a name). Should you want to jump in and play as quickly as possible, you can answer a series of question which will put you into a class.
Armed with only a knife, a limited amount of currency, and told to report to Caius Cosades in Balmora, you are loosened upon the world in the village of Seyda Neen. Talking to everyone you meet is not a bad idea. You will gain a lot of information about the world, and its characters. You will also be besieged with requests for help. Of course, you can say no and continue along with your initial quest.
Getting to Balmora can be difficult or easy. The hard way is to try to walk it. You are hardly equipped with the skills and armament necessary for the task. The easy way is to spend some of your money and hop the local transport system, which are Silt Striders, giant bugs with space carved in their shells for passengers. You won’t actually have the opportunity to enjoy the scenery on your journey, but you will arrive in Balmora.
Tracking down Cosades proves an easy challenge, but what he reveals to you is part of your reason for venturing to Vvardenfell. You are a Blade, which is basically a spy for the Empire. Your cover is freelance adventurer, and you will need to join a guild.
Not only will Cosades have duties for you to perform, but also so will your guild. For example, you have joined the Mage’s Guild and are assigned to collect mushrooms. Along the way to collect mushrooms, you run into a woman who has become lost in the wilderness while on a pilgrimage to the Fields of Kummu. She offers a reward if you will take her there. Since you have a world map for guidance, this shouldn’t be a problem.
Your journey will take a while, and this is the first introduction to the size of the Morrowind world. There are no shortcuts in the game, and you will have to walk it, fending off any creatures that attack you, while protecting the woman as best as you can. When you finally arrive at Kummu, you will find another person there, who asks you to find his lost friend.
And so it goes, one quest after another.

TES III: Morrowind. Only one downfall
Review created: 02/18/09
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I started playing the TES series at the IV installment (Oblivion), My brother went away to college and took the 360 with him. So while hankering for some gaming I realized I still had an original xbox and that games would be real cheap on eBay. So I picked up Morrowind. It's great I love how expansive it is. Definitely way ahead of it's time. That of course is the only problem. Gaming physics had not quite advanced to what they are now. The game is extremely well put together but movement is a little shoddy. Combat is much less fulfilling than in Oblivion because of the physics. It plays like most third person fantasy RPGs where there is no use in attempting to dodge an attack you're better off sitting still and attacking as frequently as possible. Where as in TES IV you can dodge and the hitboxes are fairly advanced and realistic. This of course is only a minor setback, and only in comparison to it's sequal, not other similar games. The story line is amazingly in depth. The cultures are so extreme and varied. It is an infinitely entertaining game with thousands of hours worth of gameplay. It also has some nice abilities that Oblivion does not. Like enchantment and unarmored.

Definitely worth the few dollars paid.

  Elder scrolls, takes its tolls
Review created: 08/05/07

Graphics are okay. Game play is the same, but attacking an actually killing something is more of a chore than a adrenaline rush.

But all in all, you can literally do anything you want to do!!! By certain means anyways. If you kill somone in town then they're dead, but you go to jail, or you can fight the guards!!! don't try that one unless you're super suped up.

But anyways, i do suggest the game for someone who really doesn't have anything else to do. BECAUSE THE GAME IS GONNA TAKE FOREVER!!!!

I bought this game thinking it was going to be kind of like Fable, this game had terrible graphics, you can't directly hit anybody and it's hard to find your way around. I was so dissapointed when I bought this game thinking that I would be playing it for a long time.

Morrowind is a highly addictive game which sets you as a convict sent to the land of morrowind to serve for the empire, but you choose to go with them, against them, or both sides. Your actions make this game excellent ad you can train in over 10 different sections, including lock-picking (security), magic and sneaking around (thief missions).

Very good game for its time
Review created: 08/29/09

It is a challenging game in the beginning, but as you level up your character by completing countless quests and slaying numerous beasts throughout caves and ruins, it will become much easier due to the gaining of experience points and different weapons. If you have played Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion right away you will notice many differences: first off, there is no waypoint marker on the mini-map that tells where the quest is or the point of interest, so in order to find your way around you must follow the road signs and pay careful attention to directions that the npc's will give you. Secondly, there is no fast travel in this in this game which will make travel much slower than it is in Oblivion. There is also no difficulty slider, so if the game is too hard for you, then you will have to make a very good strategy in order to kill the enemies of else you may just find yourself loading the previously saved game quite often. I really love how each part of armor is its own thing: for example: you can equip different left and right arm guards/gloves, same as right and left leg guards. Overall is is a very good game that will have you playing for hours and hours.

Good Reasons for Game of the Year
Review created: 07/15/09

This game has exactly what any avid gamer wants in an RPG. One can have hours and hours of countless adventures and that only encompasses the quests. There are a ton of side stories to follow and a lot of freedom to become anything you want to be. However, this game isn't exactly like Halo or Call of Duty where one is constantly trying to out maneuver or kill something. In fact it takes quite a while to develop a character. At first it seems like you're always losing fights, but in the end there's a huge satisfaction in knowing how far you've come. Rare items, piles in gold, and mysterious lands all await those who venture forth into Morrowind.
