Top Reviews Review created: 05/10/06 by: 3 of 13 people found this review helpful. This is a must read for any Ebay clothing seller! It has everything we dream of! this book is an excellent choice for moms or people without much extra time to read. It is light and humerous. It isn't chuck full of romance either. this is what the real world is like and if you can not relate to the main character you will be able to relate to some of the people that she works with. I loved the fact that this book made me feel like I was part of it. To be totally honest I bought the book for the title and the cover! I had no idea if it would be a good read or not. I buy all of my books judging them by the cover. It works for me. this book has been made into a movie too! Coming out in the theaters in June I believe! It has some great actresses in the movie. Sure to be a winner! If you are looking for intense reading this book is NOT for you. VERY lighthearted! Review ID: 10000000000931086 Was this review helpful? Report this review Reviews Review created: 02/04/08 by: The Devil Wears Prada, by Lauren Weisberger, is an absolute must read! I felt that it sums up the grown-up need to read about "Cinderella" and the "Ugly Duckling." It's complete with a wicked queen, and a heroine (the child within us we all keep secretly at bay). We see that smart and sexy can coexist. A real DIVA is inside all of us. The key is empowering that Diva into an everyday woman with real gusto in an otherwise grueling dog-eat-dog world. We read in envy as the mousy brunette, in all her frumpishness, timidly, and nerdy is miraculously and humorously transformed into a real-world, success ladder climbing, hob knobber, who not only realizes she holds strength, power, and a whole set of morals to boot. It even has a somewhat happy ending. If you have seen the movie, and enjoyed it, this is a must. If you saw the movie and didn't care for it, this book is still a must read. It is a case where there is no coming close in the movie version. The book is better hands-down! The book takes you powerfully by the heart a drags you along, mystified, laughing, and cheering it on all the way through. Bravo to the Devil Wears Prada! This book is pure entertainment and keeps you turning the pages to see how much crazier this boss can get. MUCH BETTER than the movie. Great for beach or airplane reading. I definitely recommend this for any book club! Review ID: 10000000003077049 Was this review helpful? The book gives an inside view of the fashion industry with all its snideness and competitiveness. The author does a good job of describing frustrations most new college graduates and first time employees face when trying to fit into an office heirarchy in a highly stressful setting. Yet, the reader is left questioning the priorities and tactics of "the powers that be". The time wasted in catering to the whims of a boss who is capable of running a major company but incapable of conducting the most simple personal tasks leaves one pondering the importance of what any of us do for a living. The book also cleaverly points out the difficulty of holding on to power and the ethical choices one makes along the way to get to the top. As usual, the movie doesn't do it justice. Be sure to read the book for the nuances of the story and the industry. Review ID: 10000000002318339 Was this review helpful? Report this review |
