kind of disappointing -- poor effects and casting
Review created: 03/08/07

This movie is too long. There are poor effects and incredibly poor casting. I read from other reviews that "The Chronicles of Narnia joins the ranks of other fantasy classics like The Wizard of Oz and The Lord of the Rings”. But I think that’s a very overstatement. For a movie that is supposed to take place in a world that is nothing but overwhelmed with strange creatures, there were only a handful of total characters & creatures in the entire film.

A Great Film!! Can't Wait For the Rest in the Series!!

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe is a great DVD, one that you should add to your collection of classics. If you have read the book, you will see the director and producer stayed true to the storyline and created a masterpiece of screenwriting. If you have not read the book, you will find the movie to be a delightful film of fantasy and faith that captures you attention and leaves you wanting more. This movie is a great value and a definite must for any movie watcher!

I know for myself, I can't wait till the other books in the series come out on film!!

I'm not much of a fantasy fan but this one really kept me interested throughout.
The story of 4 children in a magical fantasy land of Narnia. They meet evil witches and a wise lion. Can the four save Narnia and become kings and queens or return to the wardrobe?
I don't want to give to much away but I recommend it for all ages.
Great charcaters like a fawn, beavers and more.
There is a fight scene but not too graphic or bloody.
It's definitely a fantasy tale. I would watch it again.
For fantasy fans, this is a definite buy.
I liked it better than most fantasy movies.
Think there will be a part 2?

  Narnia Posted by CK-Auctions

CS Lewis' classic children's book The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe holds a special place in many readers' hearts, usually alongside Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. The authors, in fact, were long-time friends who (as members of a literary group called the Inklings) even critiqued each others' work. The parallel between the two books continues in the fact that the narrative power and visual appeal of both these stories beg for them to be brought to the screen... and that the very nature of the stories made this difficult to do well. That is, until computer-generated animation came of age in moviemaking. Now we can have believable fauns, centaurs, giants, and lions inhabiting a gorgeous fantasy landscape; we can (if it's done well) have a Narnia (as we had a Middle Earth) that allows us to see it, at least to some degree, the way we have imagined it.

The film does one other thing that warms my heart for its authenticity. It starts off the Narnia series as it should be: with the first book that Lewis wrote, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. In the past few years, it has become a new fad to re-order the seven Narnia books in internal chronological order rather than publication order, thus placing The Magician's Nephew, the next-to-last book, in first place. This is a really, truly dreadful thing to do, because The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is the book that introduces us to the world of Narnia, just as the four children are introduced to it. In The Magician's Nephew, many of the mysterious magical elements of Narnia are explained... but unless you've experienced the preceding five stories, you don't know why these particular elements are special and interesting. Furthermore, this ordering of the books spoils some of the events in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Why did we all get put into such a mess? The official word is that this is Lewis' preferred order, but in fact it is not – and as a scholar of literature who did her dissertation on the fantasy novel, including Lewis' novels, I've done the research and I know where the problem arose. Years after the books were all published, one of Lewis' young fans wrote a letter to him suggesting that it was a good idea to put the books in internal order. Lewis wrote back saying he thought that was a fine idea. (And it is – if you've already read the books and want to re-read them in a different light.) But I don't think we should consider this one offhand comment as an indication that Lewis genuinely thought it was the best order; in fact, while Lewis was alive, it stayed as just that, an option that readers could take for themselves. (My 1970 printing of the series has the spines numbered correctly!) Only in recent years has the fad for reordering them taken over, much to my dismay.

So I have to give a big thank-you to the filmmakers for proving my point, and the point of all the other devoted Narnia fans: the best way to start out experiencing Narnia is with this story, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe!

best movie ever with christian basis!!!!!!!!!
Review created: 08/24/06
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I watched this movie expecting a child's tale. This movie has so much. Most people would not be able to notice the christian connection in the movie this guide is directed to any one that knows a little bit about the bible history. The movie has a character that his actions greatly resemble judas as he betray's the king. there is a war that was predetermined to happen but the out come was already profisied. There is a ressurection of a king that gave his blood to save another. this movie resembles the bible without even trying to and it made it easier to explain past events from the bible to my children. This movie is good for all ages. I watched it over and over and kept finding more and more christian background in the movie. it does not ever actually say that it is christian based but it follows so many christian believes and avenues from the bible. I was really impressed with this movie. Buy this movie for your children or for yuor bible study group. THis is the best investment you could make on a movie.

The animation was wonderful. The scenery: beautiful. The beavers: rediculously cute....but there was something about the characters that just made me detached from the overall movie. C.S. Lewis was a brilliant man so I was expecting brilliance from this movie. Instead, the Lion who was supposed to represent Christ had no character at all and in no way did justice to the symbolism that he was intended to uphold. The characters were all very flat. Hopefully the rest of the series that is to come begins to understand the spiritual issues that should be used when developing the characters, rather than spending all their time making sure the animal's fur looks real.

Christian-based movie; very powerful. Great actors; some unknowns; excellent moral to story. Hope this is enough letters to get my review printed. 100 characters - whew; that's too many ... don't have time for all this writing. Excellent!!! Thank you.

If you love adventure and thought provoking films, then you'll enjoy this one. This film is not for young children. I did read the book a long time ago, but I forgot most of it. This is one film where I think that the film was better than the book. One important lesson I noticed in this film is if you want everything you may end up with nothing...

This was not a movie I planned to see but when our nieces came for the weekend (2 wks ago), we watched it. Both my husband and I loved it. It made me want to read the book and I was really impressed with our nieces understanding of the biblical symbolism. This movie has appeal for a wide audience. Fantasy lovers will really appreciate it as well. Definitely worth the time. I'm still thinking about it.

I've waited a long time for this to be made into a movie. I loved reading the books when I was younger so naturally I was thrilled when I heard it was coming out.

I completely loved this movie. It did justice to the book, it really came alive. The scenery was gorgeous, the special effects were also spectacular.

Even if you haven't read the books this movie is easy to follow. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys fantasy movies.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe is a great movie brining to life a modern version of this childrens classic. The effects and acting were very good with a cast of vurtual unknowans playing the four children who have been sent away by their parents during the war to live country side. Their adventure begins when the younist enteres teh wardrobe ina frobidden room and dicovers a new world. Godd effects and story violence is minamal but may be too much for some small children.

My husband and I saw this movie in the theater and loved it. It's a great story and one we remember reading when we were a kid. We had high expectations since C.S. Lewis is one of our favorite authors and the story line is so good. I think this movie lived up to our expectations. It's got a great moral lesson. Kids will definitely enjoy this movie as well.

I can't wait till the Sequels
Review created: 07/02/06

I absolutely adore this movie. The acting, first of all, is first rate. Especially for a "children's Film." The Cast is amazing, Jim Broadbent, Tilda Swinton, major heavy hitters. some of the UK's most accomplished actors. What most surprised me is the talent of the younger performers as well. Keep an eye on these kids...they are Hollywood's next big stars. The Special Effects were phenominal and the Special Features, outtakes and gag reels...most enjoyable. This is one to own.
Again, I can't wait to see the sequals, thanks god there are like...8 books in this series.

The Chronicles of Narnia is by far one of the best movies I have seen in a long, long time. To start, the story line is incredible. It has your interest from the very beginning. You immediately love Lucy and find her brother Edmond to be a bit annoying. Susan is a bit nerving and you'll love Peter. The lion is phenomenal and the Witch is mean!!! The special effects are awesome. You can almost feel the cold of Narnia. This movie will make you laugh and cry. It will keep you wondering scene from scene what is going to happen next. There is a surprise around every corner.

This movie is thrilling for the whole family. The cimetography was top notch. Well written and well acted. The children made the stories come to life. While watching the movie, it is difficult to not equate the allegory with the gospels in the New Testament. This movie whould be in every family library.

I have always liked "fantasy" type movies, and this one certainly qualifies. I bought this movie because it is something I can watch with my two teenage sons, and they love it as much as I do. This is a top notch fantasy style movie. The characters of Narnia, though make believe, capture your heart.

I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. This movie will give you the warm fuzzies and without giving anything away, you will learn something about joy and redemption. I love this movie!
