4 years ago I had given up on ever having to "not diet". A friend recognized the fact that my metabolism is such that an excess of carbs causes me to gain weight, and gave me The Carbohydrate addicts diet. For the first time in my dieting history (which started at 15), I finally understood how food was being processed in my body. Since diabetes is prevalent in my family, I decided to give it a try. I had tried Atkins once but it was too restrictive and after a week I felt sick from all the fats. Every person's body is different and in order for me to lose weight and feel fit doing what another reviewer stated as eat less and get more exercise, I have to consume no more than 800 calories a day and work out for 2-3 hours. After following a low fat, carb filled diet, I was gaunt, sickly, my hair was dry and falling out and I was starving all the time. My cholesterol was at 200 and I felt weak and hungry. Lean yes, but weak, hungry and bitchy because I saw no end in sight. I started the Heller's first book at 212 lbs on a 5'3 frame at 42 years old. I was sick of diets and sick of feeling deprived and abnormal. I figured I'd give one more diet a chance. After the first 6 months I was down to 165 and had more energy than I'd had ever using a low fat diet and exercise. I told my doctor what I had been doing and how I still allowed myself carbs, just under a more controlled situation. She was sceptical to say the least and insisted I have my cholesterol checked. It was around 180 after having been hovering at 200 for a few years. She was surprised. Well fast forward a few more years and after marriage to a great cook who loves sweets, I am once again over 200 lbs and 212 on my cholesterol. I am going back to my once a day carb diet regardless of what others think because it worked for me. My doctor who was pudgy herself started the same lifestyle change after seeing the change in me and my vitals, and has lost around 50 lbs. If you love and crave carbs this is the easiest lifestyle change you can make and see results. Start with their first book though. It explains what's going on in you and gives you other people to relate to. suec_98022@yahoo.com
I bought this book for a friend. This eating plan has proven successful for several of my friends in the past and I wanted to give it to a person who is struggling with yo-yo dieting; in hopes that it will be successful in ridding their lives of this terrible burden and happily turn their life around, also.
I have always had a weight problem and now, thanks to this book, I can better understand why it's been such a losing battle. I have already made some dietary changes according to the plan outlined in this book, and it seems to be working! I love it!
I never received it. This is the only order that I have had this problem. I thought that possibly there had been a computer problem and the order never went thru. But since you are asking about it, I guess that means there had been some kind of problem.
Authors provide loads of information about low carb dieting and insulin resistance. Glad I bought the book. Some of the recipes, though, were not practical, nor would I have the ingredients on hand. However, one can switch from Atkins to this diet and back again very easily. So, when times are stressful and dieting is futile and your craving sweets, you can switch to the Carbohydrate Addict's Program and have a treat every day with your reward meal!!
The information in this book is so helpful. The requirements of the plan are very realistic and easy to follow and stick to. I am following the plan and already seeing a great reduction in my cravings for sweets and breads.
I bought the book because I am sensitive to carbs , have been always. Dr's Heller give a do-able way to handle food and diet , to be recommended. Nothing is really very simple , but they make it easy to understand why too much carbs affects one. Nice recipes and a lifestyle that can be lived.
