Album Notes This 2006 sequel to Elton John's revered 1975 outing, CAPTAIN FANTASTIC & THE BROWN DIRT COWBOY, finds the erstwhile Reginald Dwight (the Captain) looking back on the decades between the two albums with his longtime writing partner, Bernie Taupin (the Kid). Continuing the earlier record's autobiographical themes, THE CAPTAIN & THE KID is highly charged with emotion (see "Tinderbox" for a close examination of John and Taupin's up-and-down professional relationship), and the British pop icon unveils some of his most powerfully moving and beautifully spare vocal and piano performances in years, which can be sampled on the poignant, achingly minimal single "The Bridge." This introspective atmosphere stands in sharp contrast to John's giddy turn on the Scissor Sisters' Bee-Gees-like "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'," which topped the U.K. charts shortly before THE CAPTAIN's release, and helped to prove that he remains a vital and dynamic musician more than 30 years into his incredibly accomplished career. | Find errors in the product description? Reviews  A Sequel .....31 years later? Hmm....Review created: 05/15/08 by:  Some Elton Fans in thier 20'-30's are wondering what this is. I wonder too. Why did he bother to do this?. To make $$ of course. This Sequel to "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy" is Better than the last 6 albums COMBINED Elton has made even though "The Bridge" is the worst song on the whole album. It Figures he picks that one to try to make a hit with. "The House Fell down" would have done much better. If you listen to the rest of them it's still pretty entertaining and enlightening. Not a Classic Album but a HELL of a lot better then the Previous "Peachtree Road" and anything Elton made after 1994. Review ID: 10000000007171721 Was this review helpful? Report this review  In Love with Elton and BernieI love all the songs on the CD. To me, this CD above all the others, tell the story of Elton John and Bernie Taupin. I have one CD in the car, one at home and one at work.....kind of addicted. All three CD's were bought through e-bay and all three sellers were fantastic. Report this review the album is fantastic to all pure elton fan'sanyone who has been a long time or even a short time fan of elton will hear the excellence in the collaboration expertise to elton and bernie. the only thing i didn't like about the album is the reality that the journey of elton and bernie is coming to a close and you can feel that in the lyrics of all the songs especially the song " the Bridge". i specifically purchased the album to maintain my collection and to prepare for the the 3-22-07 concert at the Dunkin Donut Center in Providence, RI. it was the warm up concert for elton & the band for his 60th birthday party at MSG. its been 8 years since he came to providence and probably the last time.
