Delightful comedy starring Robert Young. Robert's encounter with an ghost ancestor and the ensuing escapades to regain the family honor were very entertaining. A great family movie, safe for all ages.

This was a movie I had seen as a young child and it had stuck in my mind as being such a wonderful movie. For years I hoped to see it run on TV, but it never did. I checked all Movie Rental places, including Blockbuster, but to no avail. Finally I found it on Half.com and when I watched it, it was just as good as I had remembered. I would recommend this movie to anyone, it is sweet, funny and just plain entertaining.

  A true classic

I love this movie because it is truly a family movie. Children don't have manners like that anymore. The actors really assume their roles and do it wonderfully. I wish all movies were done as tastefully.

Brillant acting and story plot. A touch of comedy and drama just the perfect balance. Interesting and keeps your attention with a hint of costumes at that era up through a different centry in the year of 1943. Main character is Charles Laughton with a theatrical flair gives a wonderful performance of a sorrowful doom ghost. Haunts the castle by conjuring annoyance methods of chain rattling, loud moaning and sudden ghostly apearances. When in reality it is he who is the weak fearful spirit running away at the slight commotions. For 300 years Sir Simon de Canterville ( Laughton) entomed alive by his father for cowardice to honor a kinsman. Forever to search for a kinsman to perform a deed of braving in his honor. Margaret O'Brien as Lady Jessica de Canterville is the charming enchanting six year old (niece of the Ghost) who manages to steal the limelight every time. Finally a kinsman in the form of Robert Young as Cuffy Williams bare's the birthmark of the Canterville on the back of his neck. Lady Jessica recognize the mark, together Simon and Jessica convince Cuffy to do the brave deed in the name of his long, long distance Uncle Simon. Unfotunatly, Cuffy descovers that all his relative through-out the 300 years have been cowards; blinds him from performance the act of bravery. Until Lady Jessica ponder on a way to shake Cuffy into action uses her tiny legs to kick a nuke that has parchuted near the castle and in the middle of surrounding soldiers. Cuffy jumps into action driving the hillside shouting out a warning about the nuke he chain on to the jeep.

Ok if you want to find out the ending. I suggest you either purchase or rent this charming heartwarming movie. You won't be disappointed.

By The Judge # 1 I love movies, forever

This version of the Canterville Ghost is one of the best made, and reflects the time period in which it was made during WWII. I like it because it is a fun movie that anyone can watch with excellent acting and a good moral. Its a classic.

Everything worked properly. The only problem was due to the recorded VHS system : it was not in the European release but in the US release. I spent further money to have the movie translated into the European system when the seller told me that the movie was readable also in the European system.
Anyway the seller is reliable and kind.
