The Bicycling Guide to Complete Bicycle Maintenance & Repair by TODD DOWNS (2005, Paperback, Revised)

I have been using this book over the past 10 years. It's time to get the newest edition. I use it for reference often and also it's a great way to see how things work on a bike. I am not too technically inclived when it comes to todays complex road bike. But I use this repair guide to first look into how to fix something. Once I know what is involved, I can then make a judgement on whether I should attempt to do the repair or have a professional tackle it.

This is an essential bicycle repair book for everyone. Very easy to read and the photos/illustrations help.

Recommended - which ever edition it may be!

Excellent book, although I have to say that I am left with the distinct impression that the author has no tollerance for my real-life bicycle use. Bikes, according to this book, seem to be made more for keeping clean and functional than actually functioning. Funny, really. Also, there are very few or no solutions or suggestions that don't involve spending a lot of money. If you are a recreational rider trying to keep your bike in good shape, probably look for another book... The book is for people who have a lot of time and money to invest in expensive bicycles. However, I did find the book very eductaional for that one day that I might have the funds to buy a really nice bike.

Whether you are a serious cyclist or just a weekend warrior this book would be very useful. Covers everything from basic tire maintenance and air pressure all the way up to more advanced topics to tweaking a bike for professionals. With many large photos it is easy to read and could save you money by doing basic repairs yourself. Certainly the cost of the book will be returned to you by the savings you will enjoy by dong the basic repairs and maintenance outlined in this book.

This is a great book! Superb pics and easy to understand. For the novice or the pro, I haven't seen a better manual to keep your ride up and rolling.

A must have for anyone with a bicycle and a little mechanical ability. Lots of pictures to help guide you through the procedures. Very good index, easy to find the area you need to work on. Covers old and new types of equipment and accessories. Good section on adjusting saddle. Lots of detail but not overly technical and does not focus on one type of bike/rider over another. If you are planning on doing your own up keep on your bicycle this book will be a tremendous asset.

I am not that mechanical but I found this book easy to understand and very comprehensive. We ride both mountain bikes and road bikes - the information is equally good for both types of bikes. I recommend it to anyone wanting more knowledge about riding (understanding gearing etc.) and bike maintenance.

This book is full of information. I'm in the process of building a mountain bike and I refer to this book often when I get stuck. I like the fact that there are lots of pictures. Some of the information gets a little wordy and requires more reading than I prefer in a maintenance book but there is no information left out. This book is a must for anyone wanting to work on their own bike. I still plan on buying another book from Park tool just to get another perspective on concepts.

This book is very good. It covers all the essential areas of bicycle repair. It's ideal for the person who is considering doing their own repairs or just starting out as a bike mechanic. It's the perfect all around reference book. It will refer the reader to additional material for in depth subjects. For instance, wheel building.

As a avid cyclist who desires to do his own repairs it's perfect for me.
