Great compilation that lets you know how good they are

I really enjoy the tracks by New Order - they are one of those bands that will never be a big favorite of mine...but at the same time, as soon as their tracks start playing you cannot help getting into the music and thinking - they really did put out some good music!
This Best of album is a great tribute to their work....a generous 17 hits are featured on this album, and it was one of those albums where I sat there and said "they did this - wow". I also like this, because unlike a lot of best of albums which really are a mix of hits and new stuff that really cannot be considered a true 'best of', this highlights their best and most commercial work which I really enjoy! I also have to point out that this album was tailored to the market in which it was released and my review is based on my copy which is the UK pressing so forgive me, if some of my track listings are different!
Of course, perhaps the true standout of this release has to be "Blue Monday", the catchy anthem that was almost ahead of itself in terms of the electronic style and is still highly contemporary today! Regret is another favorite of mine - the music is fantastic and there is just something so interesting about the melody, particularly in the opening moments.
World has a highly electric pitch with the keyboard effects while Ruined in a Day takes on a darker sound. True Faith has to be named another standout of this album and indeed work, Round and Round has such an 80s sound though the vocals are a little weak - the same can be said for Age of Consent! My version also has the interesting "World in Motion" written for the 1990 World Cup featuring the England Football team including a rap segment by Footie Star - John Barnes...I'll always love this as it takes me right back to this time!!
My only criticism of this album is the fact that it is actually missing some fine tracks...like why was the fantastic Temptation not included in this compilation? This is one of my favorite tracks but is sorely missing as is a lot of the earlier, great music this band produced!
A great album which chronicals the Unique Sound of this band....but couple be better if it truely included ALL their greatest hits!

  Not original songs
Review created: 08/10/08

I bought this album specifically for the song "Bizarre Love Triangle", but because I knew that "Blue Monday" and "True Faith" were on it I just wanted it more. After all I think they were the only hits or ones I ever heard and liked. However, upon listening to it I found that all these hits were not original or tampered with in some way. True Faith was watered down-'94 version. Blue Monday is switched up completely. The original Blue Monday started slow and progressively got deeper and more complicated as the song went, but this '88 version is totally different-it mixes sounds right away and fluctuates throughout the song. It sounds good but not as great as the original, shorter too. Bizarre Love Triangle doesn't say it's a different version, but it's not the best radio version that you usually hear-they probably rerecorded it for this album and failed to get the great sound of the original, OK but not great. I recommend buying the New Order Singles album instead.

I found that some of my favorite dance club mixes were from New Order-thus improving their "more than a 1 hit wonder" rating. These tunes definitely brought back the fun days of youth.

  Blue Monday
Review created: 06/04/07

With the loss of Ian and Joy Division behind them New Order showed up with a happier techno sound. As a huge Joy Division fan I have to say that none of these songs equal the brilliance of the good old goth punk days but New Order still made some fine songs. This "Best Of" does contain their best work and it is certainly a worthy addition to any music collection. 4 1/2 Stars.

My 3 favorite New Order songs are all on this disc!
Review created: 12/11/06

Fine Time, Bizarre Love Triangle, and Blue Monday '88 are all included on this Best of CD, and those were three of my favorite British group dance songs from the Techno era from roughly 1986 through 1991. In 1986 I was 25 and still to
this day I love it when any of these songs, or other hits from Brits back then like the bands _Dead or Alive_ or _Pet Shop Boys_ song Always On My Mind / In My House are played at a nightclub. This CD is a great value for the money, as are most other Best Of cds.
