The Beatles Anthology: 2 by Beatles (The) (CD, Mar-1996, 2 Discs, Capitol/EMI Records)

I have been a Beatles fan for almost 9 years now and any Beatles record or CD I can listen to I will. The anthology for me is interesting because it showcases the Beatles as "mere mortals". So often, the perception is The Beatles were almost supernatural. These outtakes demonstrate that although the Fab Four were quite talented, they were certainly capable of making mistakes, which they often did. The new song "Real Love" is very moving and it makes you wonder what would have been if John had not died. These songs cover the time period from 1965-1967. An arguement could be made this was their most creative period. The outtakes and demo of "Strawberry Fields Forever" vividly illustrate how a song goes from start to finish. Though a Beatles fan would definitely enjoy any of the anthologies, even a new fan can find material to they would like on Anthology 2. I have not purchased Anthology 3, but after listening to this set, I am probably going to get it. I give The Beatles Anthology 2 the highest rating possible because I truly believe it is excellent. The Beatles music is timeless and always entertaining whether your 10, 50 or 99. Hopefully, I'll still be listening to them when I'm 64!

I bought this for one tract - Eleanor Rigby, instrumental - but I liked it. It has early recording of their songs and it is fun to listen to the demos. Like it!!

A lot of this raw studio music recorded sound as great as the lp or 45's cd's put out for sale to public,what i don't like is to bad there wasn't more material or future songs,i love the different minds,idea's at work here that seem to come fairly easily to the boy's. i love there style and leadership on this early work you can see a band just growing as we all have seen later on down the winding road.i purchased this to add to my collection and what a great buy everything on this cd covers a few years of music.

This is Vol 2 of 3, and by far the best sounding of the bunch. In it we have all the classics. Early takes and shelved sound combine with the brilliant work of George Martin are hilighted here. You can here how rough a tune starts, and compare it with later, or finished release. It also gives us the sounds of the Boys working together to tune up, and synch up as well. A few snippets catch the Boys goofing off in studio as well. A must for the Beatle fan.

Of the 3 Beatles Anthology discs, this is the best. I had a copy several years ago, and I'd listened to it enough to know it by heart before it disappeared. I'm so glad I finally replaced it, it has so many cool takes, and the bestest-ever versions of Strawberry Fields and You Know My Name.

Well, for starters, it was broken and I have a legitimate reason to believe that it was shipped in that condition despite the misguided rantings of the vendor.

Secondly, I believe that a vendor's actions and attitude reflect the quality of one's merchandise. If that is true, then every item she(or is it a he? Hard to tell by the picture) owns is rubbish, broken, scratched, or of the cheapest quality.

And thirdly, because rudeness is so ugly to me, I cannot allow myself to leave a positive feedback about anyone who would purposely attack (although they're all ad hominems) a potential buyer.

all 3 Beatles Anthologies offer fascinating insights into the creativity, humor and energy of rock and roll's greatest band. Many of the selections are recordings of Beatles songs in development and show how these songs grew from basic and incomplete ideas into the full pop masterpieces we hear on the albums. Other selections are alternative versions to the familiar numbers, with different instrumentation and soloing. The listener will gain insight into how diferently Paul McCartney and John Lennon were in their approach to song building. Indispensable material to all serious Beatles fans.

Actually,it was more for the incredible amount of out-takes and promos and rarities that I decided to purchase this item.Having been a raving-mad BEATLEMANIAC from 64 to 1970 (saw them LIVE 3 times in Chicago)and blissfully ignorant of all the great stuff that remained in the vaults all these years,I could NOT pass this up.I must confess to having "moved on" to ABBA after the FAB FOUR went their separate ways and Lennon became YOKO ONO's shadow... In fact, I do NOT own any solo stuff by any of them after the SPLIT. It was atupid, petty, unnecessary and selfish.But by listening to them together I am instantly taken back to the hysteria, the magic, the hubbub, and suddenly I am thankful I am NOT 20 years younger. As soon as THE BEATLES deserted me, I found ABBA, GILBERT O'SULLIVAN, and a hundred other truly POP bands-AMEN CORNER,LOVE AFFAIR,SWEET, and many more that did not "GO HEAVY METAL" on me (HUMBLE PIE)nor made a noisy nuisance of themselves (NEW YORK DOLLS).....THE BEATLES for me were a true REVELATION/REVOLUTION, the complete opposite of the ORWELLIAN NIGHTMARE I had lived in CUBA for four years after the murderous CASTRO-CHE clan were hauling off to hard labour camps anyone who had long hair. They gave me a REASON to rebel, to scream and yell, as did HERMAN'S HERMITS, THE HOLLIES, THE YARDBIRDS, MANFRED MANN, THE KINKS, etc. THAT is my TIME MACHINE.

Their the BEST. I love the Beatles, my daughter loves the Beatles and now my grandson is listening to them.

Great album that show us the evolution of the fab four. Including takes from many famous songs, classic songs, but you can hear the construction of each theme. Is great and is a real document about the evolution of the most importan band from XX century

Great Classic Beatles Album! Worked Pefectly 2! Don't know why review needs 100 words, what more can I say? Lots of great songs for us Beatle Loving Oldies. Neat to see kids still into 60's music. Hard to get them interested in classical but thats OK by me, as long as we can keep a BEAT which the BEATles were masters of changing...

The Beatles are one of the greatest bands of all time. In this cd set we have a clear example of why. The music of the Beatles is evolving and the band is improving their style of presenting their music. The songs run the gambit from childhood memories; Strawberry fields Forever to the sublime A day in the life. Over all an excellent cd to purchase if you enjoy music.

Great stuff for the true fan.I love the acoustic playing in "I'm Looking Through You" It's to bad the bridge was not written at that time.A local radio station a couple of years ago had a day when they played all 3 anthologys back to back.I couldn't figure out why.Anyway,I tuned in when I was in my car,and the song was"Got to Get You Into My Life"A great song,but not on this lp.All that was on was that single note and I thought,how dreadful for someone tuning in and hearing that.I don't think it should have even been on the disc.
"Strawberry Fields Forever" is really great.It starts with John playing in his room with an acoustic guitar.with 3 different parts,you get the real deal of how the song developed.I'm so glad that was on there.

Through the years-and through my 100's of Beatle and Beatle related cd's, things tended to get misplaced along the way. Compared to local store prices-this was a bargain. Also, you have to keep in mind that stores that are specifically cd and dvd stores generally have higher prices-and then on the other end, you have "everything" stores, ala WalMart or Target-and they're not particularly great at restocking items that aren't in the top ten. So, taking a chance on whether they'd have a catalog item in stock is just that-taking a chance. So, pricewise, and in terms of availability, I was very pleased with this purchase.-and seller
