The Barbie Doll Years by Joyce L. Olds, Patrick C. Olds (2006)

A great book, a lot of work put into one such as this. If you are looking for something to compare your items to by pictures, or need descriptions, this is probably not the book for you. If you have items that are still in the package, this will be a good guide for you, it is current and pretty much full of everything I could think of with Barbie's name on it. The writer of the book does offer the advice that you may deduct a percentage from the value of your item if it is not in the package, as this is only a guide of the new items, and other factors such as geographic location, demand, etc.
This book is a good source as a price guide for Barbie, Barbie family & friends, and probably anything ever made with the Barbie name on it from the beginning of Barbie's creation. Unfortunately, there are only two negatives I can see with this book, otherwise, all is positive with the idea for such a great compilation as this. The prices in this book are only for NRFB, or MIP or MIB, which means they only suggest one price, never opened package, never used, brand new condition. The other only negative thing I can see with this great book is there are no detailed descriptions or enough pictures throughout the book.
At the beginning of this large, almost 400 page book of Barbie-related information, there are about 21 pages of great titled color photographs, giving you quite a varied example of editions, accessories and a few photographs scattered throughout the book.
This book is arranged very well, in several formats, by Barbie, Ken, Skipper, etc. and in each, by name & stock number. There are many categories included, such as Cases, Paper Products, Lunchboxes, Watches, etc. Again, anything with the Barbie licensed name. And again I remind you, the year, the stock number and current value listed as a perfect item only. No photograph, no description. I think if a book had a picture for every single item mentioned in this particular one, it would probably weigh about 20 pounds & have about a thousand pages...there are just so many items listed!!!!
In my opinion, this is a good supplimental book for someone who has "mint in box" items, who can easily recognize Barbie & any Barbie related items, since you will have nothing but your basic catalog here.

Although, when I purchased this book, I was looking for something the book does not totally provide. However as a pricing guide, it provides enormous reference information. If you know what you have, or have a Barbie or friend in box up into 2000, you should be able to locate pricing references. If like me you were looking to identify individual dolls, you will be disappointed.
