The Baby Book by Martha Sears, William Sears (1993, Paperback)

This book was the best book I have ever owned! You will be very surprised that anything you may be worried about or anything you need to know, the Sears' know it all!! As they should with all the experience and knowledge combined between the 2 of them and having many children, both adopted and their own. What I loved most about this book, was everytime I went to look something up in the age category chapters, they were always right on about everything for that specific age! Their tips and suggestions are so helpful and after reading them you will always feel better to know that your baby is doing exactly what he or she should be and everything is normal. It's almost like having your own personal doctor at home with you! I recommend this book to ALL first time parents and to keep it for all of the children they plan to have! You will need no other reference.

This is my number one Baby Shower gift. Every one I know that has read it has described it as their "Baby Bible." The first few chapters are excellent to read while you're still pregnant or have a brand new baby. They help to put your mind at ease and figure out your parenting style or ... "what the heck do I do with this little thing now???" But it's also great for the whole first two years. It has great medical information, and a great index. If your baby has diarrhea you can look up what may be causing it, whether or not you need to go to the doctor, and how you can treat it. (It's written by a pediatrician and father of 8.) It was great for me to read about what foods to introduce when, and there's a great section of baby development month by month and little ideas of games you can play with them at each stage. The overall message of the book is that you, as the parent, know what's best for your child. You don't need an "expert" to tell you how to "train" your baby. I can't recommend this book highly enough.

The perfect resource book for all your new baby to toddler questions. I love the format in that you can easily look up a topic or read like a traditional book. I also like how Dr. Sears presents several different approaches to issues and then states why he chose the one he did for his family. I also like the approach that not all kids are the same and the same thing will not work for every child. Great gift for new parents or soon to be parents!
