A Good Cookbook for traditional Ayurvedic Cuisine...

This cookbook authored by Amadea Morningstar gives healthy, delicious, simple recipes for meals and medicinal drinks based on the traditional elements of Ayurveda. I originally purchased this cookbook as a resource for Ayurvedic cooking. However, I have found that I refer to it more often than I ever have as I prepare my family's everyday meals.

The recipes are totally delicious, filling, and easy to prepare. To date, there has not been one that my family has not disapproved. What I really like about this cookbook is that Morningstar states on each recipe if the dish is not compatable for a particular dosha or not, or if it won't aggrevate it at all. This is very helpful in planning meals. She also gives good information deteriming your own dosha, as well as on the incorporation of dairy and how it is best digested in the body from an Ayurvedic perspective. You can tell in the cookbook that she exhibits a total spiritual side of preparing food using the freshest, organic, non-processed food items available; and engaging in freshly prepared meals and why these are so important in the spirit of Ayurveda.

My only complaint about the book is that to the cooking novice or to one that is not familiar to traditional Ayurvedic cooking, the recipes may seem repetitive like every recipe sound and may taste the same using the same herbs and spices over and over again; or they may not sound satisfying because the recipes are vegetarian. However, because the dishes are so hearty and tasty, and there is a purpose for using the certain herbs and spices over and over, I often explain these to individuals as "an inquired taste" that taste delicious!

Overall, if you are looking for a simple, satisfying Ayurvedic cookbook that has a great overview on determining your dosha, as well as Ayurvedic food preparation, simple and delicious recipes, as well as other perks, this is a good start and probably one of the best Ayurvedic cookbooks out there right now in the Western world. I have passed this cookbook around to friends who are interested in this type of cooking.

I would appreciate a vote on this guide, if you found this informative and helpful or not, as your feedback helps me develop further reviews and guides.

  The Ayurvedic Cookbook

I have to admit that I was a little intimidated when I first picked up The Ayurvedic Cookbook. I am new to Ayurveda. I have been reading everything I can get my hands on about the system and have started to change the way I eat according to these principles. However, to this point, I have been looking at specific foods and tastes to help my own health rather than trying to create a whole meal for my family.

Even with my limited experiments, I have already noticed changes in the way I feel. I was eager to do more but afraid that it might be more complex than I could handle. I was also a little worried that the food would be bland and boring.

Now, I’m so glad that I picked up The Ayurvedic Cookbook. The recipes are delicious. I haven’t had to say “eat it because it’s healthy” once. My favorite part is that each recipe includes information at the beginning that details how the recipe fits into the Ayurvedic system.

Moreover, the book includes a little blurb of information about the main ingredient of each section. This gives me a better idea about what this ingredient does in the system and when it works best. It also tells me how that particular item reacts with vata, pitta, and kapha types.
