The Automatic Millionaire by David Bach (2003, Hardcover)

I first ran into the Automatic Millionaire HOmeowner book in the airport. I never pay for books that way and always order them discounted on Amazon--but i was unorganized and needed something to read for the layover. I have just received the Automatic Millionaire and read it in one day! It's easy reading but great tips and ideas. Some of the information is basic. Yes we need to save. WE all know it but we often feel we don't have any areas to cut back on. It's a great reminder of the Latte FActor which BAch uses to show how just cutting back on a Latte or a Bottled Water every day can start giving you money to save. He also tells you how to call and tell the Credit Card company that you do expect a lower rate or you have other offers. If you read alot of other financial books-The ideas that set this and all of Bach's books apart from those is the idea that this is not a 5 year plan or a 10 year plan to get rich. This isn't about Flipping properties. It's about slowly investing and saving your income by making it automated so you don't have to work at it. In my opinion I would order the book just for the motivation and reminder to save and live under your means. I've seen Bach as part of a team on Oprah Winfrey and the advice is changing lives and saving marriages. THank you!

This book changed my financial future. Before I read this book I never thought I would ever get out of debt or own a house in the near future. Now, I feel all that is realistic. David says, "pay yourself first" and find your "latte factor". I was one of those people who thought I did make enough to save for retirement and I have plenty of time because I'm young. After reading his book I immediately started paying myself first automatically. I don't even miss the money and I will be one of the few people who can afford to retire and possibly early! I even paid of two of my student loans and raised my FICO score. I figured out my latte factor and was not shocked that I was wasting a lot of money. I still have work to do but this book put me in the right mind set to make small changes that have had a huge impact on my pocket book and future.

This book is excellent for those who want to retire early and wealthy!

I have read this book in its entirety, without the desire of placing it down for even a second. This book was well written and very informative. If no one ever becomes a millionaire, it's because they haven't read this book. Whether your desire is to become a millionaire, or not, you would benefit from reading this book simply because it reveals the secret of true success in money management and investment. I specifically like the illustration of the latte factor, and it details most people, including myself, who spend their money out of want instead of necessity. Most of us spend our money on the little things that never matter, and if we just invested that tiny amount, we could have greater success than we'd ever imagine.

Pro: The Automatic Millionaire details every little aspect of true success in money management and investment, and should be a must read for every school child, and high school grad.

Con: I don't see one area where I dislike this book, nor its material. So, to me, there is not one con to write about.

This book breaks down how a small amount of money can grow over time. You can become financially secure without huge sacrifices. Time does equal money!!!

I bought the book for my son as I had already purchased the same book for myself from another source. My son told me that the book was in "like new" condition for a used book. He received it in a timely manner and was very pleased with it. I know that this is not a review of the seller, but he was very cooperative and understanding about my purchasing the book, and having him send it to my son's address.

Great book, easy to read and easy to learn. I believe everyone should read this book, whether they are still young or older. Anyone can learn from this book. I will be keeping this book and reading it again so I don't forget what this book is telling me. Great book!

I bought this book because I recieved one of David Bach's later books, Start Late, Finish Rich for my birthday, and I decided that I wanted "The Automatic Millionaire." It seems like a great book so far. I haven't had the chance to read it yet.

I hate get rich quick scams, but this is the exact opposite. This is the story of how to obtain wealth over time through home ownership. It's a common sense approach and resonates deeply. A very good read.

Bach offers up some sound investment advice when it comes time to building your future financial wealth. Unlike so many other authors his story is not based on a quick rich scheme. Instead, He makes it a point to "pay yourself first" and that investing in real estate is one of the best investment vehicles to creating wealth. He is very bullish on becoming a homeowner. I would tend to agree myself with a lot of his basic premises. His book is geared more towards a basic understanding of accumulating wealth for a novice investor. I like the Millionaire next door much better as far as a strategy for creating wealth.

When I first saw this book I thought the title was hookey- it sounded like a get rich quick book full of promises and no pay off. but Then i saw it on Oprah and heard what the book was REALLY about- I bought it read it in a matter of days and started doing everything it recomends- on a salary of $25,000 at the time i saved over $1,000 in just 3 months with out even realising it! I wasn't pinching penny's- I was just paying attention. I love this book so much I've given it to friends and family as gifts. I honestly believe that if people read this it will change how you use your money for the rest of your life- By calculating your latte factor you learn how much money you're literally throwing away. you figure out why you spend the way you do and what you need to change. By paying yourself first- automatically- you save thousands in taxes and ensure that you will save yourself from yourself and finally get your finances to a place that you'll be proud of.
BUY THIS BOOK! READ IT!! DO THE EXCERCISES! REALLY USE IT!! and then share the knowledge that you've gained from it~

This book is an easy read. I don't know how anyone could purchase this book and NOT use the tools it provides. I only wish I had bought it years ago. My next purchase will be David Bach's book titled "Start Late, Finish Rich".

Great book and a great guy, met him once. For people who already know how they should be handling their money its a great refresher that gets you on track. And for those who need to learn about all that boring financial stuff its an easy guide written in plain English. I started following his instructions about two years ago. I simply payed myself first by having a certain amount of money deducted from my bank account automatically each pay check and wow has it gotten me on track. This is not a book for the super financially savy. If you're an investment banker type don't bother. But for the average person who may not have been taught anything about higher finance its a great book. One of the examples that rang true for me was if I can spend $60 a month on latte's then I have at least $60 I can be saving for my future. Actually I found a lot more than $60 to save! The only thing I thought was a bit off was his idea that budgets are not helpful. Other than that he offers great advice that people can follow on pretty much any income.

Good Book for those who have not figured out the way to save money but in the financial market where they keep changing the rules I'm not sure it will still work or that any money is safe or If anyone has a good enough job to have any money to save after buying gas and food??!!

Excellent book with practical information on handling one's money. Easy, common sense approach anyone can do.

Frankly, most of us already know what to do. This is distilled common sense in a short easy-to-read format. Simple explanations of how to cut your expenses while increasing your net worth. The hard part is beginning and then continuing to follow the plan.

Although we've been following our plan for years and pretty much replicating his ideas, he did teach us a few new ideas that will stream line and amp up our savings.

This book is a bit outdated with the current state of the economy but full of great information. Lots of tips from investing in the stock market to buying a home. A good read from front to back.

David Bach has written a book that is the best of both worlds. It is packed with useful and easy to apply information. Plus it is quick read, you can finish in couple hours. I think most people want to know what they should be doing with their money to get the most out it, but don't know where to start. The automatic millionaire gives you a straight forward plan on how to be able to retire and not have to worry about money. The great thing about the plan is that it works for everyone, no matter how much money you make. I am giving this book as a gift to all my managers that work for me, so they all can get started down the path to financial freedom. I would recommend this book 100% to anyone that cares about their financial future.

I really enjoyed this book. It was easy to read for beginners and gave some helpful tips to seasoned investors. It gave simple principles that anyone could follow!

This book is right to the point! extremely educational. If you follow the steps recomended and pay attention to detail, you will find your financial situation will change.

I love this book. It teaches you easy ways to find money you are spending needlessly and ways to save it. It teaches you to 'pay yourself first'. Which I have started to do thanks to this book. I like how David makes you understand that it is really silly to spend so much money on items such as 'speciality coffees' when you could be saving it. This book makes you understand that saving starts with the small stuff. Reading this book has given me the steps to becoming an automatic millionaire. I have also started saving for my children.
