Good Introductory Text

Like a lot of people, I had to buy this book for my Speech class on Public Speaking. Although it was written clearly and had a lot of good information, I was disappointed in that much of it was very basic, self-explanatory, or things that could be found in more elementary Speech or Human Communication textbooks (several chapters, for example, were virtually indistinguishable from either my Speech 1000 Human Communication text from a few years ago or my Voice & Articulation book from this semester).
Overall, however, it serves as a good introduction to public speaking. My major complaint is that many of the example speeches seem rather dull, but they do illustrate the points the chapter is making well.
Given that most people are likely buying this book for a class, I will say here that there are no mjor differences between this 10th edition and the 9th edition (I cannot speak for earlier ones), with the one major difference that anyone in my class has noticed being updated pictures, such as ones that include Barack Obama.
