I love the Woman's club series and this is a very good one. It keeps you interested and as usual I had the wrong person picked for the killer. Great ending.

The 5th Horseman by James Patterson

This is a good mystery novel. I actually like the Womens Murder Club series better than the Alex Cross series.

The fact that this is an unabridged audio book makes it a good compromise for listening to on a trip, while not missing the whole book as some audio books are abridged. The book is about 7.5 hours long and is perfect for a long trip. The fact that the book is on CD makes it attractive to a person who has a changer either in their car or at home.

I find that listening to audio books makes trips go faster. My typical drive on business is 4 - 5 hours.

Please find someone else to read these stories....

I've been a Patterson fan for some time now and I always enjoy his stories, but the 5th Horseman leaves quite a bit to be desired. The story is very straightforward with very little in the form of excitement. Continuing with the courtroom backdrop as in other titles in this series, you are gently lulled to sleep by the sometimes boring story and dreadfully irritating voice of the actress reading the book. Being a fan, I will keep reading, but the excitement of the "Cross" series is missing here and for all that is good and holy, please fing someone else to read these books. This woman may be good enough for television, but her reading is as exciting as holding your wife's purse while she shops...

The 5th Horseman, which is the fifth book in Patterson's best-selling Women's Murder Club books. It's hair-raising. It's fast paced, it's James Pattersons's continuing to string out best-sellers faster than we write checks. Lately his books have been hit or miss. This one is no different, but I'm sorry to say the things that still bug me about Patterson continue to bug me here and they probably always will so long as he keeps pumping out four or five books a year.

At the San Francisio Muncipal Hospital, people have been receiving the wrong medication which induces a heart attack. The latest victim to this string of "accidents" is Yuki Castellano's mother Keiko, who suddenly collapses. After she's taken to the medical hospital, she's given the wrong medication and suddenly dies. Just like several others. Lindsay Boxer decides it's time to investigate. It's been happening too much to be just an accident.

It isn't such a bad book. For the most part, it'll keep you on the edge of your seat. If you like fast-paced movie-like books, The 5th Horseman is perfect. It instantly grabs your attention and takes you away.

Again, however, this book is plagued by what just about every James Patterson book is plagued with these days. Where's the meat? The substance? There's a lot of plot, but what about characters and steady pace? The book, like many of his previous books, moves much faster than it has to. And because it moves so fast, there's little time to feel for these characters.

Look at it like this, Yuki Castellano was introduced in 4th of July, the previous book (which was much better than this one). We learned very little about her. Here, her mother is introduced right after the prologue. When the mother dies, Patterson tries to make us feel sorry for Yuki Castellano. And I probably would've if I actually KNEW Yuki. The reader doesn't feel for these characters anymore. Lindsay Boxer is perhaps the only character who gets developed. But the other characters of the Women's Murder Club (who ARE major characters) receive very little. Being stuck with these characters for 400 pages calls for some kind of development for these otherwise, underdeveloped characters.

The overall plot is pretty good, at least. Like I said, you'll be on the edge of your seat, but again, it feels very movie like. Everything happens so fast that there are times when the reader is left behind.

If I were to write a letter to James Patterson, I'd tell him to slow down. Ever since he began pumping out four or five books a year he's had to call on numerous co-authors, and his books have gotten shorter, despite them being 400 pages long (as many reviewers have pointed out, the formatting makes it that way). And along with being shorter, they're moving faster. Not only do things happen unrealistically fast, but they become unbelievable, and his characters are beginning to suffer as a result.

The 5th Horseman is a good book, but it lacks substance. Put simple, there's no character development anymore, and nothing falls into place logically. It's time Patterson slow down a little. Take time to flesh out his characters and his stories. He's established his credibility as a writer, it would be a shame for him to ruin it. I don't know about you, but I like a few spices on my book... the kind of spices that make me glad to be with these characters. The kind that make me say, "I sure hope nothing bad happens to her!" It's not here.

One through Five have been great. Bought it because I enjoyed the others so much. Always listen in my car and with 3 I cried in Atlanta and again in Knoxville. James Patterson and Maxine Paetro do it again.

After listening to the preceeding four books, this one has you on the edge of your seat all the way thru. The ending was a total surprise! I hope James Patterson continues in this series as I can't wait to see what happens next. I would listen to all five all over again!! I would advise anyone who loves a good mystery/thriller, to get all five books.

Great characters. A lot of twists and turns that rivals Robin hospital murder mysteries! Though I wish the book went into the reasoning behind car murders.

The Women's Murder Club prevails again! He keeps you in complete suspence and leaves you wanting more. I enjoy both of Patterson's groups of characters (Alex Cross and Lindsay Boxer). I can't wait for the 6th book.

Agian in the saga of the Woman Murder Club, James Patterson has come up with a page turner that will keep you wondering who did it, with the interaction with many characters, this is one of his best novels ever and I would recommnend it to anyone who like a good thriller. Thanks from a true Patterson Fan. Possible the best Boxer Story yet, but hurry up.. We want more..

This is the 5th installment in the continuing saga of Det. Lt. Lindsey Boxer of the San Francisco Police Dept. I hope there are more of these to come. Excellent story. Kept you wondering, just "who done it". I really like Patterson's easy style and attention to detail. I never find any of his works boring and he always leaves me wanting more. I am hooked on audiobooks and I am glad that I am able to find many of Patterson's works on ebay. I would recemmend The 5th Horseman to anyone who likes suspense novels and if you are already a James Patterson fan, this is Patterson at his best.

The 5th Horseman audiobook on CD

I love audio books! James Patterson is one of my favorite authors. I like to buy the audio books used on CD to get the best possible deal. I have not had a problem with any of the books since they are generally listened to once and then resold. In turn, I listen to the books one time and then resell them on ebay. Such a deal!

Not only is the book very well done. But it also allows you to see the personal side of the character as well as the proffessional side. The listener feels like a voyeur watching someones life unfold in front of them.
