Top Reviews  TI-85 Limitations 15 of 16 people found this review helpful. The Ti-85 is a great calculator. But people should be aware of it's limitations in the college setting. For most all students taking just normal maths and calculus it works awesome. However, engineering students should take note. It's very inefficient and complex working with higher tier maths and especially complex numbers found in Electrical Engineering and Phasors, etc. I recommend the Ti-85 for everything up to Calculus 3/4. Differential Equations, Sohpmore+ Engineering courses such as Circuit Analysis, Power, Systems, etc. Definitely go with AT LEAST TI-86 but highly recommend looking at TI-89, Review ID: 10000000002081614 Was this review helpful? It works as well as the newer models like the TI 86 or 89 with just a few variations in the function keys and such. Since, it is an older model, the price for it was what convinced me to buy it. This is perfect for my daughter's school work and i am going to purchase another one within a few weeks to have a back up in case she loses this one. Although, the price is higher than I expected but it's cheaper than I would have bought it new at the local store. So, I gave it a try and bought it.
