  TI-83 is Awesome!!

The TI-83 Plus is an outstanding calculator for the k-12 classroom "and" the college student entering any mathematical field!! Whoever wrote the review that this is not a valid calculator for calculus and beyond has not had any experience with this machine!! I had a TI-85 in my college undergraduate (Math) and it is equivalent to the TI-83 of today (more features now). At any rate, most calculus and beyond will need an integration tool to crunch numbers and minimize time (such as mathematica) and so the TI has limits as any of the calculators do.

The TI-83 Plus integrates as well as any handheld tool available!!

TI-83 Plus is a much more standard calculator

The TI-83 Plus has been the best thing since sliced bread for the High School Math classroom!! I couldn't have survived without being able to use it. With the updated apps and compatibility with TI-Navigator and Connect, not to mention with TI Interactive!!

I simply love the way this machine easily allows me to visually represent functions as well as view them in tabular form and manipulate them dynamically!!

  The Ubiquitous Calculator
Review created: 08/07/06

Some people think the most important desk accessory is the ballpoint pen. For others, it's the erasor. On this desk, it's the TI-83 Plus calculator.

There are lots of graphing calculators out there, and plenty of them have more functionality than the TI-83. Few have managed to strike the balance between functionality, ease of use and low cost that the TI-83 has managed.

It's powered by the decades-old Z80 processor, which means there's plenty of "aftermarket" software if you're so inclined. I has a serial port that allows you up upload and download programs from your computer; you can also upgrade the calculator's internal firmware with this.

The list of functions in the calculator is impressive. It will handle most statistics, algebra, geometry, trig and calculus tasks with ease. The screen isn't the highest resolution, but the graphing feature in most calculators isn't intended for exacting work; it's simply meant to give you a quick representation of the data.

Many schools require the TI-83, for good reason. It really is one of the best calculators for the money.

  TI-83 Plus Graphing Calculator
Review created: 09/16/06

A few years ago when I decided to go to college, I was looking for a calculator that would be with me for a long period of time. When I was signing up for classes(keep in mind I am NOT a math geek) The intructors advised to get a TI-83Plus calculator. Being the over-the-top gadget geek, I bought the TI-89 figuring it had to be better right, all that and a bag of chips? It is/was BUT, only 1 teacher on campus had the TI-89 or knew how to work it. There was info all over about the TI-83 Plus, including most of the math textbooks. The TI-89 had so much more things on it that I have never used and because of that it worked simple commands differently than the TI-83, them menus were different, the buttons were different. Both are great calculators, TIs are the best. When the teacher says a TI-83 will be fine, it really will.

Transaction, delivery and product were fine... for a while... after just a short time of use of the calculator, it completely quit working. Tried new batteries, including button backup batteries and the unit will not turn on.

That's the risks of EBay purchases.

Without an instruction manual, this is a tough calculator to use. You can download a manual from TI:

http://education.ti.com/educationportal/appsdelivery/download/download_eula.jsp?cid=us&displayMode=G&applicationid=6124&contentpaneid=17

but it's a hassle to access your computer every time you want to figure out what you're doing on your calculator.

And if you plan on using it for a long time, you may be better off getting a new one. But if you need it for one or two classes, consider getting it used.

  Texas Instruments TI-83 Graphic Calculator

The TI-83 Plus Graphic Calculator is required by my daughter's school because she is taking advanced math. She is taking tenth grade geometry while in the ninth grade. This is the calculator recommended by the school system; actually it was on the list of school supplies required for the kids in the advanced program.

Though she is to keep the calculator at home for her homework I don't know how she could succeed in the program without it. Her math comprehension is above my ancient ability to help her.

I would recommend the purchase of a calculator like this for any student or anyone in need of the graphic and calculating functions available with this model

The same model in new condition was about $30.00 more than what I paid via ebay even considering the cost of shipping.

Great calculator for a student, home, or even at work! Very easy to use, even though it is a little pricey it is wwayyyy worth the money for this calculator. If the money thing is getting in the way then buy it used.. But with hundreds of features and easy to use formats, one of the best investments you could make for a calculator.

hope that helps!

Ok this calculator does it all! You can play games when the professor is boring or actually graph equations that you would hate to have to do on paper! It is bassically a compact computer that makes you seem to be a mathmatician. This calculator is a must for algebra and chemisty subjects.

Basic calculator with a little magic. No great apps...

I would recommend the Ti-89 over the Ti-83 (see other review) any day of the week, unless you're a student in Algebra II, Calculus, or Trig (since no sane teacher would allow the use of an 89). While the Ti-83 is certainly able to do more than basic functions, the poor screen resolution and lack of a real problem solver (not to mention its inability to do calc functions) makes this not worth the money. Go with the bad boy 89!

Great product. I bought it for my son for his college math courses. The only problem with it was that there was no manual with it. We went on line and was able to print off some of the instructions to help him get through the class.

Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus Graphic Calculator

I am a physics teacher at a high school that has students of a wide range of economic backgrounds. I try to provide several calculators to be used during class, as well as for tests. A TI 30X new cost the same amount as this Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus Graphic Calculator used. Students, understandably prefer these calculators so it was an easy choice to make.

Very, Very, Very unhappy with this transaction

Might I add, very poor to my rating! My item never came. I tried on several occassions to reach out and contact the seller regarding this purchase, to no avail. Since I paid immediately through paypal, I filed a greivence with them and was able to have my money refunded, after about 6 weeks. But what if I used a different method of payment? I probably wouldn't gotten a refund at all. I'd wished I had read the reviews on this seller before making my purchase, because if I had, I certainly would not have given him my business. As the old saying goes, "Buyer beware". That sums up my experience with this purchase.

I bought this for an intermediate algebra class. If you combine this calculator with the Zoom Algebra software, anything is possible. I passed our first test (with 105%.) I am confident I would have flunked it if it hadn't been for the calculator and Zoom Algebra software. The calculator (without the software) is difficult to use. That's readily apparent when you seen the 500+ page owner's manual that comes with it.

I love that it is so cool-looking. I just got mine today after a TI-85 I got in 2002 died. I think it has plenty of features for what I ask a calculator to do, and the only thing I don't like about it is that it's so expensive! Other than that, it is the perfect calculator; no need to spend even more for a ugly calculator which doesn't look as suave.

I purchased this calculator because I'm attending college and the calculator is requiered for one of my math courses. Also, this calculator is a "must have" if you want to pass college algebra with an A. The seller of this product has the greatest price in town. Buy one if you plan to attend school and succeed in college with good grades.

This is a very easy to use calculator and with the ability to download programs I was able to load the programs from highersat com. This has improved my SAT score. You do not need the TI-89.

Great Calculator.
Would recommend to any high-school and college Student.
No need to pay more for the newer models, they have the exact same functions.
Only go for the TI86 and above if you are studying hardcore engineering or physics.

With the programing capability, this calculator will do just about everything. Also, there are hundreds of programs available online and can be downloaded, so usually you don't have to do the programming either.
