Movie Description
James Cameron's THE TERMINATOR is one of the tightest, tensest sci-fi films ever made and a landmark in the genre. In the year 2029, battles rage between the superintelligent machines that rule the world and the last vestiges of humanity. In late-20th-century Los Angeles, Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) suddenly finds herself stalked by an unstoppable killing machine--a Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) sent from the future to kill her and her unconceived son, John Connor, the future leader of the human resistance. Sarah can rely only on Reese (Michael Biehn), a soldier sent from the future to protect her from the seemingly indestructible Terminator and save humanity. This low-budget masterpiece was the breakthrough film for director Cameron, who weds special effects, thrills, and understated romance to create one of the finest action films of the 1980s, which spawned many imitations but few equals. Science fiction author Harlan Ellison sued over the film's similarities to his own works, especially the OUTER LIMITS episode "Demon with a Glass Hand," and won acknowledgement in the film's credits. Schwarzenegger will forever be known as the relentless Terminator, a heartless killing machine who returns (in a kinder, gentler form) in 1991's TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY.

"The Terminator" was a ground-breaking action film that has had a profound influence on its genre ("RoboCop" was its most obvious successor). With its computerized cyborg hero, "Terminator" was one of the first films to introduce the "cyberpunk" aesthetic. The concept of the cyberpunk was born in the science fiction of author William Gibson ("Neuromancer," "Mona Lisa Overdrive").

Arnold Schwarzenegger was originally offered the role of the hero Kyle Reese, ultimately played by Michael Biehn. He turned it down in favor of the murderous cyborg. Lance Henriksen was originally offered the role of the Terminator but decided instead to play the detective.

Songs used in the film: "You Can't Do That," "Pictures of You," "Photoplay," "Intimacy," "Burnin' in the Third Degree."

Additional credits: Kyle Tucy (2nd unit makeup/hair), Thomas Irvine & Robert Roda (assistant directors), Edward D. Farino (graphic animation effects & main title design), (Ray Mercer & Company (opticals)

Additional Terminator effects: Shane Mahan, Tom Woodruff, John Rosengrant, Richard Landon, Brian Wade, David Miller, Jack Bricker (special effects) and Ellis Burman Jr., Bob Williams Ron MacInness (mechanical effects).

The Terminator - The classic that started it all

Dark and disturbing, definitely one of my favorite movies from the 80's.

Arnie is absolutely spectacular as the evil Terminator. This movie really started it all, in my opinion Terminator opened the doors for many action/sci-fi movie stars.

Terminator is a classic movie that belongs in any movie fans collection.

    Final Verdict:

    5/5
