Neo-psychedelic outfit Brian Jonestown Massacre has been remarkably prolific, especially considering the never-ending personnel changes the band has endured since its inception in 1990. The quantity of material the band has produced makes them ideal candidates for compilations, and the 2004 two-disc TEPID PEPPERMINT WONDERLAND is still the best place for newcomers to get introduced to the Massacre's grungy, shimmering, '60s-influenced rock.
VOLUME 2 is essentially the second disc (plus a bonus track) of the aforementioned two-disc package, and it collects album tracks, live cuts, and other assorted odds and sods that provide a solid overview of the band's range and spontaneous energy. The 23 tracks faithfully represent the group's aesthetic, serving up a paisley-tinged mix of both the high-minded and the raunchy that draws on the Stones, Jefferson Airplane, My Bloody Valentine, and contemporary acts like Spiritualized.
