Tender Mercies (DVD, 2002)

Tender Mercies (Starring Robert Duvall and Tess Harper) has been around for about 20 years but it just seems to get better with age. It is a story of an alcoholic country western singer who finds redemption in the flatlands of Texas. The script is understated; you have to watch the picture closely to get a full understanding of what the characters are communicating as so much of it is non-verbal (ie Tess is doing a ton of ironing and Duvall asks her what she has been doing, she replies, "Not Much".) The country western music in this film is spectacular whether you are a fan of country western music or not.
This has been a family favorite for years and we were not surprised that it won some academy awards. This is a movie that is timeless and to be enjoyed over and over again. You will not be disappointed.

A very good movie about a man who turns his life around before it is to late. A man who achieved great success and fame to only find that the things that matter most are much greater and far more humble and less exploited. This lesson is taught by a simple woman and her young boy who are not aware they are harboring a famous country western singer.. Story is similiar in some ways to more recent film.. Pure Country..

The lessons life teaches is for all of us, regardless of our station in society. All too often, only in pain and sorrow, can we see the folly of our pride. This movie has become a classic. Betty Buckley deserved all the credit she received. Highly Recommended.

This is an exceptional movie. Robert Duvall is exellent. One of the better movies that has managed to be made. My wife and I have enjoyed it everytime we need an uplifting movie with no vulgarity, violence, profanity.

Robert Duval, my favorite actor, does a great job in this film. The story is slow but got involved and enjoyed.

I am a big Robert Duvall fan. I have all of his movies on DVD. Tender Mercies shows one more of his great talents as an actor as well as a singer.
I thought the supporting cast did a good job enhancing the storyline. I had a hard time getting this DVD because of the age of the movie but E-Bay came through once again.
